Back from the vet! It wasn't those stinky glands so that is good! The vet checked her over and found one stinking flea! Apparently Bailey is extremely allergic to flea bits and it was on her bum! She was swelled up like a balloon! So office visit, steroid shot, antibiotic and chewable flea treat plus a $215 bill and we are done! We just payed $280 for Charlee and her allergies last week! It's a good thing we got a tax return because if not this would be the itchiest house ever!
I am just thankful that we have no carpet and hopefully any fleas can be vacuumed away!

Sometimes I think our four dogs cost more than my two boys did!
But since I have a substitute teacher for the day and if I go in I would be taking $ out of her pocket, I have decided to just stay home! I am feeling guilty about it but it is what it is!
Now I can be home in case RMV gets a pink Pico in for me!

30 yrs ago, Chili, when we adopted two kittens in Jacksonville, FL and they required "their shots". When the vet told me the cost, I needed picking up off the floor. Told the vet that their individual shots cost MORE than my youngest child's shots to get into first grade that year! Yike!

We have never had fur babies that have so many problems till now! We always had dogs when the boys lived at home and other than the low cost vaccinations and spay and neutering it was never expensive! Now we have to feed special food for allergies, pills and cortisone shots and between the heartworm and flea pills we are sunk! My main concern is what do we do when we retire and are on a fixed income!
Were dogs really healthier ten years ago?
But we will make it work! I did tell Mr. Chili that when our four are old and gone I never want more than one! Shoot, we only had two kids because of the expenses and now he has brought home four dogs! He adds dogs like I add on mods and tips!

That is great news Chili! You must be so relieved now. I know it's a lot of $ from one office visit, but at least Bailey will feel so much better and you can get some sleep tonight.

You were just being a good mommy! :)

    They are gorgeous Chili!

My hubby and I lost our dear baby Spanky (my avi) last year and we are still grieving for him. He had bad seasonal allergies too. In his later years, he had congestive heart failure then his liver started failing. Slowly his quality of life deteriorated and we had to make the very difficult decision to put him down.

So many of my friends have suggested to get another dog but we are not at that point yet. They are not replaceable. Maybe in a few years, we will get another but not now.

Enjoy your furbabies... love them... do the best that you can now because they aren't with us as long as we would like.

We will enjoy them JoAnn! I am so sorry about Spanky and the heartache of losing them is what made me not want dogs after the boys grew up and left home. But the joy and love they give us humans is beautiful!
I am somewhat worried about the medication for Charlee as it could create problems down the road but right now she can actually sleeping for more than a half hour at a time! She no longer itches and her hair is growing back! But the best part is that she is sleeping and playing again!

You are right about the joy and love they give us, that is so true!

I'm sure your vet will keep track of using steroids, which can cause problems down the line. That was really the only thing that would work on Spanky's allergies. Maybe soon there will be something new that will work better.

Just an FYI... If your dogs will allow it, putting baby socks or booties on their hind feet will help protect their skin if they have to scratch. Spanky got use to them eventually and it prevented cuts from their nails digging in.

You sure got Kayte's exceptional talent right, JoAnn! :) Got my Bloomin'Raspberry in today too and...... va va voom! It's a great tip for the bold color of the Pink Ribbon Provi, BUT it works so well on the Blue Lagoon and the lighter Harlequin green because of the wonderful blends of metallic blue, green, lavender and a bit of gold at the top. What a bonus! Bold and striking......and in your face PINK. Ha! :)
