I like the kayfun at about 17 to 20 watts and I want to keep my resulting volts at 4.0 on a dna 30. To me the dna performs best at a 4volt output. DNAs dont like dropping below 4v. They reboot mid toot often below 4 v.

And trying to get 17 to 20 watts on a 2.0 ohm coil will cause your bat to drain faster that is why I shoot for about 0.8 ohms to 0.9. Its a happy medium for power and battery life.

Now some folks just don't like above 15 watts. If thats you then a 1.0 to 1.3 build might suit you better if you like 12 to 15 watts.

Others only like 7 or 8 watts but I think they just haven't found a build that can handle a higher wattage to give amazing flavor and vapor.

0.8 ohms at 20 watts is 4volt.

At 17 watts a 0.9 ohm gets a little over 4 v.

Just re-read your post. I've never vaped at more than 12 watts ever, lol.

You may find a new high point in wattts with the Kayfun. Open up the air flow control or, as I do, remove the screw completely. Also, as with any new atty, the type of draw you take will change and it may feel different at first but then become second nature.

Okay, I'm experiencing a paradigm shift, lol. With my VW devices, I've stopped thinking in terms of voltage. I'm so used to using cartos with ohms of either 2.0 or 1.7. Hence why I'm comfortable with wattages around 8'ish. I'm still confused however by what you mean "the Darkstar performs best at 4 volts". Are we talking battery usage?

From Jackie:

Dear Trippy Tips and Collectors –
As many of you heard, I had an accident in my studio that resulted in a horrible burn that kept me off the torch for weeks in the month of May. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you so very much for your generosity and support over the last month.
Because of the funds raised by Trippy Tips and a few of my other galleries, I was able to get through the healing time when I absolutely could not be on the torch. Thank you very, very much.
The doctors project it will be a year before I am completely healed, but I am back on the torch (YAY!!!) and happily melting glass again. You are all amazing and the help you gave was a huge bright spot in a rough time – “thank you” does not seem adequate, but thanks again.
Very Sincerely,
Jacqueline aka. Jacs

Not the dark star per se but dna 30s in general. They don't like to output less thanv4 volts. And the higher the volt output the faster the battery drain .

Though we set watts on a dna, it is important to consider all 4 factors of electrical current: volts, current (amps), resistence (ohms) and power (watts).

Cartos and clearos generally can't handle above 12 watts.

When you get into rebuildables, imo, especially micro coils, they perform best above 12 watts and really better above 15. Hand-wrapped silica loop coils generally less.

So my point was if using a dna, find your target wattage that gives the best vapor, flavor and TH for you personally for a particular juice and build a coil with a resistance that meets that at approx. 4 volts.

Okay, that finally makes sense. I've always been concerned with watts, voltage and ohms (for a while there I was the guy explaining ohm's law to newbies), but never really thought much about amps. And I always knew that generally you'd burn up a carto going over 12 watts. Since I've never really used anything but cartos and clearos, I never cross that threshold. So it really is a brave new world I guess. Woohoo! :toast:
