No offense taken but I have issues with what you are saying. I don't believe the problem is at my end because of the reason I stated above. I'm using Kirsh skin and not using many add-ons in my browsers, just adblockers. As for videos...most of the videos I've seen in posts are not thumbnails, they are the actual youtube vids. While one is loading I can't even scroll past it until it has completely loaded.

Again, that's NOT normal and therefore leads ME to believe it's not something that ECF can fix (short of banning the posting of videos. Which obviously isn't a good idea because it hurts everyone just because SOME people experience a slowdown. I'd rather see ECF (and/or tech people) help those who are having issues like yours work with members to determine a solution, not just throw out the proverbial "baby with the bathwater"!)

How does it help to know if there is a server along the way to ECF that is slow? There isn't much we can do about that is there? I'm not techie so this is beyond me.

Because it'd at least determine IF there's something that can be done. If it pings fine, then we know it's not a server issue and instead is a software/? issue (either ECF's or the member's).

I don't want to see videos banned either but members could use links to the videos instead of putting them in their posts.

Since my problem with slow pages loading has gone away I think I can safely assume that a ping isn't necessarily. The problem has to be on ECF. Rolygate has already admitted there is a problem with one of the servers.

You're right, my bad. He said: "I still don't rule out that we have a faulty server somewhere, though; or that some of our static/CDN content is not getting served correctly to all users in all locations. That's what I need to look at next."

Concerning embedded videos, from Embedded videos slow down page loads? - Admin Zone Forums

"The preview image of the video still has to load. When the forum page loads, the video hosting site is contacted and a preview image is pulled down. If you have 20 embedded videos - that is 20 preview images that have to load..."

So, yes, embedded videos can indeed contribute to slowdown. It's brought up again here on vbulletin's board: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-383918.html Where it was suggested to skip the preview, stuff in a standard thumbnail.

Net, if you have pages with multiple embedded videos, there are all those calls to youtube or whoever to pull in the previews.

Ain't technology wunnerful? :)

Same here, videos posted in threads are not thumbnails for me, they're actual youtube videos. Gotta wait until it's completely loaded too, can't do or go anywhere til it does.

More than one on a page and I'm sitting for awhile.

This is what I've been saying all along. Use thumbnails or links.

i do have my fingers crossed that that's what it is but we need to wait and see.

as to videos, i agree with mike, they are no worse than pics. and if there are too many of them i might as well give up. but since they are linked outside and need to load independently from ecf those are a matter of your connection. my connection is not good enough ..........

FWIW I have the same slow load problems as tmcase with video heavy pages. More than a couple videos, and slow city.

I am not saying it is on ecf's end, I'm just saying.

Strange how random this is. I'm on a 7+ year old computer using Chrome at all times of the day and night and rarely have issues with slow load time at all. I did many months ago but not lately. Very frustrating for those that are having issues.

Strange, I don't have as much trouble with pictures loading as I do with videos. Pics sizes are a lot smaller than a video size in terms of megabytes and gigabytes. If all I had was dial-up, I would not be on this forum. I don't have that kind of patience.
