is the boss the owner of the company? if not, you can go to the higher ups and get the "OFFICIAL NO" from them if you'd like. lol

My opinion- you should've just kept it stealth and there would be no issue. I really don't understand why people want to be the only person vaping in the office/workplace, blowing clouds of vapor towards flourescent lighting... it's going to cause nothing but issues with boss or drama with the sensitive folks.
(EDIT, wanted to add: some of you people that have had issues almost seem to be wanting drama.... use discretion with each situation: vape in Church? at a elementary/junior/high school? cop station? lol .. if your boss is "mean", what makes you think he/she isn't going raise a stink over vaping? situational awareness and discretion, try it)

vaping w/o permission(no permission needed if they don't know, DO NOT ASK) could go 2 ways:
it went the "wrong way" for you. I'd just stop, unless you have another job lined up... or you plan to hire Gloria Allred for a "rights violation" of some sort.

No hard evidence tho... there probably will never be any evidence from a "credible source" that has sway in the matter.(insurance company, FDA, etc.)-- speculation on my part.

Well a few days ago one of my bosses told me to stop smoking in the building I work in and it really ...... me off. Been vaping for almost 2 months now. I've converted my sister to vaping and have few freinds that want to too. So I have no problem with any smoker trying out my pv or juice I have with me. Lol. Back to the boss problem. He told me no matter what I told him that it was still a tobacco product. That I could get him fire if I didn't stop. I told him that just because it has nicotine in it doesn't make it a tobacco product. That he wouldn't have anything to say if I was chewing nicotine gum or had a nicotine patch on. So can another give me some hard evidence to back my story. I have some cards from vaping companies that have this not smoking things on them just wanted more proof. Please help!!!

Im going to start selling them I think. My boss is a psychopath. He hit me in the wrist with a knife then tried to burn me with a hot spatula. Living below the poverty line will make you tolerate lots of things. I could use the extra cash. Hope he dies in a car fire. He is 5'3". I would destroy him in armed or unarmed combat. His bark is so ferocious that I have seen him back down 6'4" gentlemen. I pointed out to him that burns wont phase me. Im a chef. I showed him my arms and dead-eyed him. Not enough words to describe how much I loathe him.

good catch,,i didn't mean it like that,,

what i meant was,,,,,,in general the public don't really know how to deal with us vapers yet

True. But, I don't want to enable the public mindset that vaping is like smoking. At the same time, I don't want to act like an .... and give vapers a bad name. So if someone curiously looks over at me while vaporizing, I'll actually let them know exactly what it is and show them up close how it works. Then, I'll let them know I have been a non-smoker since I started vaping 7 months ago, and how I actually can't stand the smell of smoke now.

I think if we vapers can find common ground and communicate with the uneducated public, we'll be fine. I just don't think huddling in a corner looking suspicious is going to help matters. lol

My Mom and Dad built their own house about 15 yrs ago, and she has always been adamant about no smoking in it. I always went outside to smoke, no problem, I respect her wishes. She has helped me get started vaping, actually helped pay for it, and told me flat out I do NOT have to go outside anymore. She actually tries to figure out what flavor I'm vaping . I guess what I'm getting at, is even the most anti-smoking people, when they know what it actually is and does for you, and does NOT do to them, (ie. second hand smoke) can accept PVs as beneficial for us ex-smokers and not harmful (and some of the pleasant flavors actually bring a smile to her face) to non-smokers. Just wanted to say IMHO it's not a lost cause for us to let everyone realize that they are more beneficial than harmful for everyone.

Its not even hard to stealth vape, especially in an office workplace where most people would be doing work or something of the sort. Just take a drag while covering the light and blow into your shirt. Thats what I do in school, and it works fine. But I cant explain the strong smell of coffee in the room afterwords haha. But anyways, most non minis look very similar to pens so it really shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I love big mods and openly stealth vaping. When someone asks what you are doing be cause you are lifting the mod to your mouth occasionally but they don't see any vapor coming out, you can explain that this is a replacement for tobacco. Further explain that you don't blow "smoke" so that other people won't freak out. It is a good habit to get in. And it is polite to other people. I haven't received any objections yet.:toast:

They way I feel is don't make it obvious... I'd rather stealth vape and if someone asks me, explain.. At least I'm being non-confrontational.. If I was uneducated with it, I would most likely be ignorant as well.. I suppose we have to take it with a grain of salt.. Look at it as an opportunity, to explain to someone the greatness of vaping! If they don't like it (or want to hear it) at least you could say you tried!

some people may find it obtrusive because they can see the vapor especially when it invades their personal space. I have a problem breathing in other people's exhaust, whether it's smoke, vapor, fart or my coworker's saliva bcuz he keeps sneezing w/o covering his mouth!

Speaking of breathing in exhaust...if you aren't allowed to vape in the office, you could always grab a magazine, find a low-traffic restroom, have a seat, relax and vape. haha Technically, you are still in the office. haha ( i know you want to vape at your desk)

BTW is anyone here alive and working in an office decades ago, when you could smoke in the office or on an airplane? What was that like? I could only imagine.

Sorry to the OP, it sucks that your boss refuses to listen to what info you do have.

As for me, as I am out and about running errands for work or myself I have my Silver Bullet with an Arry tank topped off with a Trippy Tip hanging around my neck everywhere I go. Everyone gets to see it, some look at me funny, some ask questions. I'm always happy to explain what it is and how it has helped me and many others to quit smoking. I usually start out saying "It's my PV or personal vaporizer, but the easiest way to explain it would be to say that it is basically an electronic cigarette. It has helped me to quit smoking and I love it". Most people are very understanding and once I say "quit smoking" they get enthusiastic and start asking questions. I go into city buildings, banks, doctors offices, hospitals, random businesses and offices. Basically the only places I haven't been into are the police station or the courthouse.

I do not vape in these places unless someone asks for a demonstration. But that PV is always in view, always out and available for people to see and question. And I answer in a friendly manner with a smile on my face and have NEVER gotten a negative response. I believe this is because I am polite to those that question and because I am respectful to the other people around me by not forcing them to react or question by blowing clouds of vapor in places were smoking or vaping is not normally seen.

My most recent experience was I went into the bank the other day and the teller gave me a funny look and said "what is that thing?" I said my standard line and she got excited, she said "My husband has an e-cig but it's this skinny little thing, I didn't know they could be that big. What's the thing on top?" I then told her about me starting with the skinny little ones and upgrading to this bigger model mainly for battery life and how big of a difference it made, I told her what the tank was and what was in it, and she busted up laughing about the waffle. I told her how there were many flavors out there and that they helped with the switch to vaping. I didn't have any more cards on me (I usually keep any vendor cards on me to hand out if people ask) and she asked if her husband wanted to get a little more serious about it if they could talk to me about what options are out there. I told her I was happy to help and I wrote down this website and told her it was a great place for information, I gave her my cel # and said call me anytime.

These things seem to go so much better when you don't force people to react to what you are doing. If you inform them 1st, like a previous poster said about the restaurants they visit, or do like I do and just have it visible but not necessarily in use all the time, then people are more likely to be curious instead of jumping to conclusions and irritatedly asking/demanding that you stop smoking.

I rarly carry a cylindric style pv outside the house. Course come to think of it, I only use box mods these days :0). I work at a prison, someone appears to know about PV's at the top of the ladder because they are discussing allowing them into the prison for employees (WA state has non smoking prisons). There is no WAY you can confuse a Reo for an analog. I've explained them to a few doc's there. Also to some of the Sgt's and Lt's. Kinda waiting for the Capt. and Super to come along for a question and answer session :0).

I vape near the doors and the rabid non-smokers will actually stand with me and chat while I'm vapeing to see if they can guess what I'm vapeing, I"m a dessert hound. When the rabid non-smokers are on your side, well :0) it all falls into line. Stealth my toukas. SMART is the best bet.

The rules at work pretty much determine what you can and cannot do. I'd take it outside just like you did when you smoked. The great things about ecigs is that once you get rid of the tobacco habit, you don't get cravings like the ones you used to have with cigarettes. Yes, it's a slap in the face when you know that the exhaled nicotine is almost non-existent, but other people just haven't been given the AMA stamp of approval with hard numbers about the risk to bystanders.

I'd sneak a heavy vape here and there in the bathroom and save the rest for the smoking area. Eventually, the FDA will have to issue some fair and accurate information to the public. It's a waiting game and one of educating the public. I'm sure your boss has had some angry smokers asking why you can use that "thing" and they can't smoke. They don't see the difference.

Spend your time and energy converting the smokers outside in the smoking area. Once you have a number of vapers on your side, you can work to sway policy. There's power in numbers.

I explained to my boss that i was trying to quit smoking by using this new vaporising thing. I told him there was no smoke involved and that i didn't really want to be forced to go outside to the smoking corner. He went and checked with the Human Resources manager and came back with the reply i was hoping for..... Carry on.

I don't sit in the office vaping, but i can if i want to. I generally take myself off to a quieter corner of the shop floor.

between here and there
It is a personal vaporizer....period..
I never want or wanted it to look like an analog.....but I guess the only way to get smokers to recognize the ecig as an alternative to smoking is to have a similar name to represent it.
Most people I have encountered look at me funny sometimes, but I just laugh and keep going.
When I worked, I had an office with a door that I closed. Not once did I receive any complaints....maybe I was lucky, or maybe since they didn't smell anything they were unaware....My boss knew and had no objections whatsoever. He was just happy that I didn't smell like smoke anymore.
and so am I...
:)

I got into it with a security guard at my local college. While I was talking to my mother on the phone, she gave me some bad news and I got stressed. Rather than going outside (because it was freezing out there), I pulled out my eCig and vaped. The security guard confronted me, and I was ready with research. I cited every single State law regulating smoking and none of it said anything about colleges and universities. In the end, I lost because he told me that I was convincing people that walked by that I was smoking.. which could lead to the security guard receiving calls about it. That is a breach of peace (a catch-all law that should not even exist). I agree with many of the things users are saying about being discreet, and there is a change I made to prevent them from noticing me. I changed to a Joye eGo battery, which does not look like a cigarette and does not have an LED at the end. If you want to try to be discreet, make that change. It'll stop many people that might want to confront you.

Also, if anyone is into politics or knows anyone on a college student body, please request that they start standing up for smoker rights. The State laws do not typically enforce against smokers as much as these State buildings do. If these rules can be amended, we can let all of the smokers take responsibility for their butts laying around everywhere, etc. which is mostly why they don't want smokers to have rights in the first place. Non-smokers in positions of authority are downright draconian and we need them stopped if we ever expect to have the right to vape.

For the ignorant, just tell them your stick is a "Peronal Nicotine Vapor Inhaler"... That just shuts them up and they walk away, or they ask more questions because they are interested in helping themself or someone else stop smoking analogs. I show them my bottle of juice, if I have one w/ me, and explain how the unit operates. By then, they usually want to know where they can get one (for themself, or someone else).. Honey approach goes a lot farther than "In your face vinegar, I'm vaping, and nuthin you can do bout it!"

"Smoker rights" as in cigarette smokers? People should have their rights but I think cigarettes should be banned altogether. Get rid of them! (It'll never happen. RJR making billions and ppl can't get enough) Yeah I know that offends a lot of people as they enjoy their cigarettes but even when I was a smoker, I could not stand cigarette smoke. Especially when my neighbors in the next apartment over would smoke in their apartment and the smoke would seep into my room as I was trying to sleep while coughing and gagging. Complained to management and they said they couldn't do anything because smoking in a rented unit wasn't prohibited. Now I'm just glad I'm not cigarette smoking anymore. Cigs are like the most addictive and obtrusive substance. Funny, to me somehow cigs seem more addictive than the nic juice we are vaping. Is it just psychological? I think when people get their panties in a bunch from seeing a vapor, it's mainly due to the stigma of cigarettes and second hand smoke. IMO.
