Good morning all!
And now for the weekly Softball Report!
Kat's team played in a single elimination tournament. The first two games were the "pool play" games used to seed the brackets. We got demolished in both games. In two games, we gave up 29 runs and scored ZERO. It was embarrassing. One good thing did happen though... Our first game was against the team/coach that Kat used to play for that my mouth got her kicked off of. One of the girls on the team who didnt play with Kat was overheard talking to the coach. She said "If I pop one to left field, am I good to round third and get to home?" Coach said "If you hit anything tho left field, you hold at third. That's Kat out there. If you try to get home, she'll get you before you can get there!" (referring to the fact that he knew that Kat could not only get a ball stopped, but that she had the arm to
throw it home and make the play.) I also talked with him about how things were going since Kat left. He's not very happy. The girl he got to fill Kat's spot on the roster is apparently very talented, but has a horrible attitude. No one on the team likes her. When I told Kat that, she kind of smirked and said "Good. Now he knows what he's missing." ANYwho... for the first bracket game, the girls finally decided they wanted to be on the field and play some ball. They won that game 7-3. Kat made some truly spectacular plays in the outfield. Of course, she made a couple of dunderhead moves too. After making a diving catch one play, the next one to her was a hard grounder, and she ended up kicking it farther away from her as she was trying to pick it up. There were a couple of other mistakes, but overall, she did really good that game. The next round, the girls didnt seem to want to play anymore. And it seemed liked the coaches gave up on them. There were two separate occasions where the first base coach wasnt at the first base to tell our girls what to do. She was in the dugout talking or something. When Kat got a hit, she took off to first base. The coach stood there with her arms crossed. The throw to first that would have gotten Kat out was missed, Kat hesitated to look at her first base coach for instructions. She didnt say stay, she didnt say go, she just stood there with her arms crossed. So, Kat being the aggressive player that she is, took off to second. When she slid, she came in under the tag (at least according to what we saw in the stands, including parents from the other team), but the field umpire called her out. When Kat came back in, she was MAD. She knew she was safe. And when she asked the first base coach, she said "I knew you were out. You shouldnt have run." Since Kat was already mad, she lost her temper and said "WELL THEN YOU SHOULDVE TOLD ME SOMETHING WHEN THAT THROW WAS MISSED, AND NOT JUST STAND THERE WITH YOUR ARMS CROSSED!" Now, granted, no matter what the call, or what happened at that point in the game, it wouldve made no difference in the outcome. We were already behind 12-0 at that point. But that's no excuse for the coaches to stop coaching. If I get a few minutes after practice this evening, I plan on talking to the head coach about it. I'm not mad about it (anymore), but it's inexcusable. Just because the girls gave up, doesnt mean the coaches should. On the way home, I did
buy Kat a milkshake though. She did well. Even when her team played like they did, she never stopped trying and cheering and trying to motivate.
Tonight, Kat's gonna be busy. First day of school. Volleyball tryouts from 3:30-5:30 (and after watching their practices last week, I doubt she'll have a problem making that team). Then softball practice from 6:30-7:30. Then home, dinner, showers, bed. I think I'm going to have three very tired children by the end of the day.

I'm not sure how we're going to keep up with Kat's schedule this year. She'll have volleyball. Dance. Chorus. Honors Chorus. School Softball. Rec softball. Travel softball. Not to mention Melanie's Rec softball and CJ's Rec basketball.
Ok, I'm gonna get off of here. I know everyone LOVES reading my novels Monday morning!
Y'all have a good day!
