They (Board Members) seemed so reasonable and asked good questions, then they voted :(

Were you on skype listening or phone and did you hear the voting process? My skype went silent and only after the third attempt did it come back in and just as the voting had ended and passed.

I was on the phone, it was in and out. The were going to adjourn and discuss amendments, when it came back on they had voted for the ban.

It's a shame that IVAQS has not been funded and the research done. Much of this type of thing could be argued much stronger if we could get it done. As it is, it'll take months before anything is available and there are just too many holes in the dike to try to win them all. It's like like legislation that become readily available early in the game. These health departments make an announcement a couple days before they plan on voting giving no time to get an opposing voice to the meeting. There were only four people there to speak, actually only three, one who didn't smoke, but he got it for his mom, Thad and the fellow from Vancouver. Then there was one health worker that didn't know what she was talking about but decided to get up and support the legislation. What a world.

Is "nicotine" mentioned in the regulation?

Elaine, I didn't read the regulation but during the discussions they talked in terms of electronic cigarettes whether or not they contained nicotine. It was typical nanny state thought process while one of the board made a big deal about using the "nanny state" term. He was the most vocal for the ban, go figure.

The rationale behind King County's e-cig ban was a fear of eroding "social norms."

The decision had noting to do with Truth or Science.

I could not say in any better, they can't wrap their collective heads around the facts. Levels of nicotine, or health has nothing to do with this ban.

Trying to leave this comment:

NEWS BULLETIN: King County Board of Health passed a controversial proposal to ban the drinking of root beer in public. Health officials reasoned that the fake beer, which contains no alcohol, is so similar to real beer that it may cause people to think it's OK to drink alcohol in public. And that may lead to more alcoholism and traffic accidents, officials said. Officials also worried that enforcement officials would be confused, since the beverage comes in brown glass bottles, just like the real thing.

The above story is, of course, ficticious, but it does illustrate the type of reasoning employed to justify the unjustifiable. Banning root beer drinking would do no harm. But forcing former smokers to go to the smoking area to use the product that helps them to stay smoke-free could be hazardous to their health. The ban also removes a powerful incentive for continuing smokers to make the switch to a product that is much safer for both the user and for those around the user.

UPDATE: The comment was finally saved and is now posted.

Yes, Pierce already has one in the chamber, as noted in the Original PI Article.

If King County jumps off the sanity cliff...Does that mean others have to jump also?
Oh,...Sorry, just me trying to use logic. Logic doesn't apply in King County.

I just added my 2 cents worth in the comments section

This insanity reminds me of the movie "Deliverance"

This quote is a hoot:
Board chairwoman Julia Patterson said the potential for diminishing anti-smoking efforts was great.
"I would like to see us protect those public places and places of employment from the image of someone sitting at their desk with something that looks identical to a cigarette and puffing on it," she said.

The owner of my company has already banned e-cigs from our place of business, that is their right, it is not the right of the county to impose this ban, it is not in the interest of the public health.
