On my fourth re-wick of this device on the velocity deck. As long as I re-wick about once a week I never have any issue with this thing. All parts installed, no funny tricks filling. I've had serious issues with other tanks and I can't fault this one. Still making teeth marks in my top juice fill, but other than that. No leaks, no dry hits. I'm using a fair amount of cotton squeezed in 3mm coils. The ends just shoved slightly down the wick ring. It's become a 5 minute task with dry burn/prime and all.

I don't like messing with it too much after it's up and working nicely, although having had such good luck with this rta I have had
more courage to unscrew the tank from the deck after I know it's working nicely. My camera isn't great and the lighting is bad, my desk is a mess, my life is a mess. Excuses, excuses.

Yep that's how i wick too, don't be afraid to block the top of the channels. Unlike some other recent devices, you won't be risking dry hits.
Like the billow v2 for me. Oh man, what a nightmare that tank has been for me. I think if I could have fit 3mm coils in that and if the juice channels were just a little larger I'd be vaping on it similar to the cthulhu v2.

I didn't have so much of an issue with the Billow v2 owing to the little grooves, but the Cthulhu v1 and the OG Goblin... Wow they were finicky!

This design is vastly superior to all of those though!

Well I don't know what I've done wrong with that billow but I have not needed any effort with this cthulhu in comparison to get it to work, and I really wanted that billow v2 to work well too. 85vg -90vg was just a no go for that tank at 50+ watts. I could do 70 without an issue.

Yeah fair comment, 50w plus with no fuss, this tank is way better than anything else I've tried.

I"m hitting my cthulhu at 60 watts right now, with a .25 ohm set of fused claptons, 1.5 mm. The only issue I have with this set up is that the wick tends to burn and break in the middle of the coil, I assume it's because there is very little wick. As far as wicking goes, I tuck it all in behind the wicking ring, then kind of lift it out, so it just comes to the bottom of the ring, that has worked very well for me. I say no leaking when top fill, but once in a while it will leak a bit, if I over fill it or forget to turn it upside down...but even then it's just a little. One time it all dumped out as quickly as I could fill it, but that was an obviously bad wicking job. I think of the wick as the juice highway, I try to keep it as straight as possible, no tangles...that seems to work perfectly for me. I never had many problems with the Zephyrus, or the Billow V2, but I think my months of experience with them has helped with the cthulhu. Two questions, though. Anyone figure out a vertical build on this yet? And does anyone know where I can get a replacement allen key for the cthulhu v1?

Ya know crompers, as I have seen people here on ECF, trying to explain to someone how to wick something, and it goes from Funny to Hilarious, from Pitiful to What The (?). Pictures will get people just so far, and sometimes that's just far enough, for me though,,,,,,,, I need Numbers and only Numbers :matrix:, that's just how I'm wired. I simply could not get on with Cotton Balls , people would post to "Wick it Chunky". HUH, what's That ??? Others would post "Use enough but not too much". HUH, what do you mean not too much ??? Still others would post "Less is More With Cotton". I didn't post much back then, but I did read a thread from page 1 all the way to the end of the thread, just so I wouldn't come in on the middle of the conversation and miss an important point in wicking that would make ALL The Difference, but No Joy at All. I have seen pic's of the absolutely Nastiest looking coils I have ever seen, posted here on these ECF forums, but the person said that they were having the best vape of their entire life, and I still see pic's of wicking that I wish were in my RTA (but I'm Not That Good to Replicate it yet) and the person is complaining of Dry Hits. Wicking is a Royal Pain In The ... (well you know), but I believe wicking is why some people either Love or Hate certain Atty's. It's the Atty (and the Juice VG/PG) that determines the wicking , not US. That's my belief anyways. You're on the right Thread to solve your Cthulhu V2 wicking problems, just keep at it and ask and someone here will try their best to help you out. When you finally figure it out, you'll go "Bloody Hell, that was easy enough". It's only easy once you learn how to do it, and sometimes, that takes time. Good luck crompers.

BTW: When I switched to Organic Cotton Pads that I could measure :), I started experimenting with different mm widths in different coil ID's I finally learned how to do it . For a 3mm coil ID I use a 7mm or 8mm wide strip of cotton pad and I'm done (Good for up to at least 25 Watts, I haven't taken it up any farther). Read back for my full wicking SOP in my Cthulhu V2 if you're interested, it might Help. Cotton Balls are for taking off makeup, and I don't roll that way.;)

This site is an authorized vendor on the Cthuhlu site.

http://www.elev8vape.com/cthulhu-v2-rta-by-cthulhu-mod/

Looks like its still in stock, I dunno.

Edit for politeness.

Thanks Dan. I really can't wait to get one of these things. Right now my daily vape is a Billow V1, when I get the Cthuhlu is it going to seem like a substantial improvement in taste, cloud production etc? Cause I really like the Billow and would be an absolute amazing experience if the V2 was even better.

I do the same thing, standardizing widths of j-cotton strips for each coil ID. But boy do you use more than me! I use 5mm for a 3mm coil. Are you peeling off the outside layer by any chance?

Nope. I use the whole thickness. I have found that different J-Cotton Pads (KGD, Muji, Puffs and such) have a different thickness, so I might adjust my width depending. I haven't gone all the way up to 40, 50, 60, 70 Watts with my method as I don't vape that high of a wattage, and sometimes I will fan out the tails or leave them straight, you know. On my Lemo's I fan them out and just lay them on the deck not blocking the juice holes, on my Cthulhu V2 I leave them straight and put the front half down in back of the wick ring cut to the bottom of the ring and the back half cut to just lay on the deck (like on my Lemo's), two different lengths of the same wick tail. I find that if I go any less than 5mm (like you) on a 3mm coil then I start tasting Hot Coil taste (not burnt taste), and if I go beyond 10mm in width I start getting Dry Hits (too much cotton clogging up the juice flow), so I have settled on 7-8mm in width for 3mm ID coils (that's with Double Twisted 30g Kanthal A-1 and Quad Twisted 32g Kanthal A-1) for the way I vape on my single coil deck, good for 13-25 watts (25 watts chain vaping 3 or 4 hits works good with wide open air flow as does 13-16 watts for tight MTL and really tight air flow). I'm gett'in there I think with my wicking.

Most of the time I'm vaping at 13-16 watts, but a few times per day I will live on the wild side  and go up to 25 watts. :vapor: :headbang:

Edit, Again, Sorry: That's using 50/50 Unflavored or Menthol MBV at 6-18 nic.
