Hi all. Got mine today and here's my findings so far.
To test I did an 8 wrap 24g kanthal build on a 2.5mm rod. 0.3 ohms. For my testing I compared to a Youde (UD) Goliath V2.
Build quality
Very good overall. I feel that the dual coil deck isn't a fantastic finish and the overall design could be better (I have a velocity clone and just seems better in design), but it works very well. In my mind, it feels a bit like a high school metalwork project. Good, but seems like a lot of bits screwed together and not really thought about as much as it could have been.
The distance between the posts could restrict larger coils using nickel, but I haven't tried one yet. For the build I used, I had no problems with it.
The grub screws aren't sharp and didn't have any issue with wires being clipped. The allen key is a tad smaller than the holes, so may be worth using another, but it is functional.
Exterior finish is very good and looks very nice. I didn't have any signs or smell of machine oil.
Features
Juice flow control - I find this very difficult to use as while the control ring has grip on it, it is hard to turn without inadvertently unscrewing the tank from the base. You have to turn the ring quite a lot to close it and there is no indication how open or closed it it. As you have to close the juice control when filling (see below) it can make it quite difficult to use. If the grip design was better, I think this issue would be solved.
Top fill
The threads have two flat parts a al Kayfun v4 to avoid pressure build up.
I had problems unscrewing the top as there is nothing to grip, so you have to make sure your hands are oil free. Plenty of room to fill and the centre is raised so no chance of juice flowing down the chimney. I have found that you
must close the juice control as when I tried to fill by closing the airflow only, I lost a lot of juice which is a shame. Edit - I have also filled with the juice flow off and still experienced a leak.
Airflow control
Very easy to use, mine wasn't loose and stayed put. The airflow is very good, not as airy as some tanks I own, but you can get a slightly restricted lung inhale from it. I would not say this tank is primarily designed for a mouth to lung vape, but with the airflow completely off, it is possible.
How does it vape?
The flavour and vapour production is very good, not the best I've had though. I haven't used the single deck yet, but the dual coil one is very nice indeed. I used cotton bacon wick in my test.
Would I buy another?
No. It is a good tank, but not one I feel warrants a second one (I like to have two of the same tank for flavour switching)
What would I recommend as an alternative today?
UD Goliath V2 or Ehpro Billow V2
From my experience, this tank does not perform or is as well designed as the UD Goliath V2 or the Billow V2. The juice flow control on the Goliath is fantastic and incredibly easy to use, the build quality of the deck is far superior and the flavour and vapour production is a lot better. It isn't officially a top fill tank, but it is possible. If the Goliath had the velocity deck, it would be the perfect tank IMO.
Conclusion
I think it is a very good tank and performs very well. It isn't a tank for less experienced RTA users as it has a lot going on under the hood which may overwhelm some people dealing with issues that may arise and could spoil the experience.
Personally, as an RTA junkie, I do not feel it is as good as some of the tanks I own. I have compared this to my Goliath V2 (which I felt was a suitable comparison)
Things I like:
- Top fill
- Velocity style deck
- Option for single coil build, which is very easy to build on like the Subtank mini
- Easy to use air flow control
- Large juice channels
- Raised lip around the airflow holes
Things I don't like:
- Juice flow control - not very easy to operate and no indication of how on or off it is
- I had leaking from the airflow holes when filling - both with juice control and airflow turned off
- Design of the dual coil deck seems a little rushed
- Quite a long chimney due to the top fill which affects the flavour slightly IMO
- Feeling of the tank being rushed onto the market
Overall whilst the exterior of the tank is lovely, albeit a little tall, to be expected of a top fill device, I feel the interior and features could have done with a lot more thought and it feels like it has been rushed to try and compete with other similar tanks on the market currently. I don't dislike the tank, but it would not replace my Goliath V2.
If I didn't have so many other RTA's, my feelings about it would probably be different!
