I've just received the Cthulhu v2 today, which I've wanted for a fair few months, but kept putting off because I kept reading that people said they (Cthulhu) had quality issues with the early v1s and the v2s would likely be similar. Anyway, finally gave in on black friday and got myself one. It arrived today, cleaned it a few times in ultrasonic cleaner, wicked it up with single coil deck and am impressed I must admit!

A few reviewers have mentioned that they later received an 'updated' base with a tighter AFC ring, and I was just wondering if I had this updated version since mine is quite loose (not horribly so though) and has serial 0009- am guessing though that they went round the clock and started from 0000 again rather than add an extra digit as it's been quite a few months since it was released and the shop I bought it from (greyhaze- UK) is quite well known, so I doubt it was old stock.... Not sure!

How can you tell if you have the 'updated' deck, are there any extra O-rings or any obvious physical differences I can look for? Or did Cthulhu just improve the tolerances on the machining a bit? Many Thanks in advance!

My understanding is that they changed the machining a little to improve that issue. I have serial no. 04xx and my airflow is fine. I've also read that some people found that once the tank was screwed on to their mod, the airflow ring was fine. If you do have a problem with it, email cthulhumod, they are awesome at helping customers out, it sometimes takes a little while to get an email reply.

0009 sounds like a VERY early serial number to me, as my stainless steel one (my first) is #1939 and I've had it since the end of September (shipped on 09-23-15). I bet Europe got theirs before we did here in the States.

Joe: My airflow control ring is very loose when it is Off my mod, but, when on my mod it stays where I adjust it to, it doesn't move.

Thanks for your advice- yeah it does tighten down once you put it on a mod- so no big deal really- much less so than my billow v2- though I understand on the billow there is a grub screw under the ring that can be adjusted...

The main frustration for me now is that I cant remove the top cap- it's jammed more than any atty i've ever used- think the o-ring they use must be a bit over the top! Have stuck it in the freezer for a couple of hours after making my fingers bleed with the effort, and will switch back to my trusty workhorse that is my KF4 whilst ransacking my bags of spares to find a smaller o-ring (if I ever do get it off!!!)

Cheers

my topcap was very tight as well, at first, but after a few cussing sessions, it's fine now, they seem to 'break in'. the juice control is pretty simple, all the way down (the inner ring) is 'on', all the way up is 'off'....if you mess around with it on the base of the tank without the glass and all, you can see how it works..mine is only in two positions, all the way on or all the way off.

Just a bit of an update since I've been using mine since the initial release, before the black version came out....
I pulled out my Cthulhu v1 a week or so ago, I'm finding I like the less airflow of the v1. I've been running my v2 about 75% closed....
I recently bought a kbox mini.... So far, in the v2, my favorite build is dual 26g kanthal, 7 wraps at 2mm for 0.4 ohms running at 43w.... To me, its comparable to my subtank mini build, 28g kanthal fused Clapton wrapped in 34g kanthal, 2mm at 0.4 ohms running at the same 43w....

Yeah Really Huh. I can run my Lemo V2 Wide open on occasion and it's nicely restricted but the Cthulhu V2 wide open is more like breathing open mouthed. It's still good though, I really really like it. I use both, but prefer my Cthulhu V2's (my 3rd one is on the way). :)

Sorry for the delay Joe, but when you get the top fill finally open be sure to put a drop of e-liquid on the o-ring and you'll prolly find that it works better (that is if it is NOT cross threaded from the factory).

Reducing the airflow was an attempt to reduce dry hits when running Claptons and high VG liquids....

I gottcha on that one. I do the same when I screw up and stuff too much cotton into my coil and it doesn't wick worth a darn, I pinch my airflow Way Down to get more juice into the wick, It helps. If that don't work, Then I re-wick.

These are listed on gearbest.com now for 24.99. Pretty sweet deal for all that you get. I may pick one up since I haven't been able to use mine since the first week of owning it. The wife has laid claim to it, I'm just glad she's enjoying one of my many purchases lol.

Wow, That's a good deal. :thumb:. Thanks for the Heads Up .

Maybe this will help you, send them an email at info@cthulhumod.com as I was just at their website and looked around and found nothing even mentioning the Tri-Coil Deck. Go Figure. Or this for Customer Service cs@cthulhumod.com or this for Phone 0086 – 135-1093-0047 or their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/cthulhumodz
