I don't see it as an issue... for me, anyway. In order to kill the batt in 16 hours, I had to vape twice as hard as I normally would. vaping normally, it lasted two days. So I just plug it in when I go to bed at night, and it's fully charged when I unplug it in the morning. Granted, I don't go balls to the wall with the wattage like Mutt does, but even he couldn't drain the battery in less than 13 hours. :)

Granted, that's a long time. I vape at about 6v and go thru about 2 18650s a day but 13 hours would hold even me. If the durability is good then durations that long would elliminate the need for a second devie. Guess i'll have to wait to see what the production model does. Thanks.

Holy jumping Jimminy Cricket. I get a good 28-30 hrs out of an AW 18650 vaping 3-5ml/day, at 3.7V mind you

the non-user replaceable battery was a HUGE criticism in the iPhone and that device not only became one of the best selling phones ever
It's not even as bad as that. The iphone was made intentionally non-serviceable to force you to buy a new phone every couple years. It's nearly impossible to take it apart without destroying the case. All apple products are made like this, and its one of the many reasons technically savvy users hate them.

The darwin, in comparison, looks to be assembled with regular old screws which anybody can remove. Just because it's not using the generic round li-ion cells we're used to does not make the battery "non-replaceable". Even if evolv does not sell batteries directly to customers (no reason they shouldn't), finding replacement cells should be trivial.

In other words, all parts are user replaceable, given enough determination on the part of the user.

The way I understand it, you are correct here. Evolv will replace your batteries if you need them to, and at the same time, if you want to replace your own, then it is relatively easy to do. You will be able to purchase batteries from Evolv directly, or you can search online and order your own. They are not using proprietary batteries.

It's anodized aluminum, made in a CNC machine. The supplier (evolvapor.com) is making the Darwin themselves. We'll have a pic of the finalized unit this coming week, after they get some anodized. I've seen a pic of the final case, and it looks quite a bit different than the beta cases that we've seen pics of in this thread so far. A bit shorter, thinner, and not quite as plain.

When is this coming week? Anything new ?

Did Nacho fall off the clock tower?

Looks like within the next couple days. They've anodized a few cases (pretty much production units) and they look very, very nice. Brandon is going to get some professional pics made, then take those to announce the release, as well as to put them up on the website.

The change in resistance in nichrome based on the temperatures we vape at (well under 200C) is quite small (1-2%). The resulting change in voltage is extremely small and would have no effect on the final vape.

In terms of real world use an atty is a static load.

How much has the resistance changed when a vaper, by his experience, senses a degradation in performance?

IE: the unspent fluid we expel from our atomizers by draining or blowing.

There are other scenarios where a user is notified -by vape, taste, TH, draw etc.- that it's time for atty maintenance.

Whereas the Darwin is constantly adjusting for resistance change, however minute, would these adjustments tend to compensate for and mask atty degradation thus lead to shortening atty life?

I haven't heard any problems from the reviewers thus far, so probably a theoretical question.

Thank you for this thread. I've learned more than a bit.

You have it! You little ugh-you know! Looks so much better. I knew they could, I knew they could-LOL.

No, I don't have it. I wish I did, though. This is just a pic the supplier sent me. I'm still vaping on the old, ugly RedneckDarwin.

This unit has double hard-coated anodizing. It is extremely scratch resistant, and kinda almost looks like a rubberized coating from the pic (but it's not). The button on the production models will be different, but other than that, and some laser etching, it's pretty much what it will look like when it comes out... which will be really soon. Keep an eye out in the Supplier Forum for an announcement from the Supplier... hopefully tonight. I just got off the phone with him and told him he needed to post it ASAP.
