Darwin...Is it really different?

I've been using the vapemate for two weeks....It works fairly well with the tube mod... you'll definitely want the tube mod otherwise youll have to invert the feeder to get the juice to flow.... also, with the tube mod, it auto feeds unless you put a pin hole in the top of the tube.

does it auto feed enough to flood? I guess with the juice well on it it shouldnt be a problem

yes- it does- if you go up on the thread and search it for "leak", you'll find some discussion about it...

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ring/132729-vapemate-juice-feeder-supert.html

The problem is that (with the tube) there's some residual vacuum pressure that keeps capliary tube (inside the aluminum) from draining, which in turn holds the juice in the plastic tube.. it just continues to feed- unless you can get air in the system and break the vacuum...two ways to do that- either tilt/lie it down in such a way that the bottom of the tube is above the juice or poke a hole in the tube near the top of the bottle to let just a bit of air in..

Add- FWIW- it's an ok add on- i kind of love/hate it-it's a bit of a contraption-
takes some practice to get a feel for it and it requires attention-
Definitely not a stealth device, but it it is functional- and it definitely beats dripping manually- especially behind the wheel.
Adapters for 801 and 306 are comming for it....

Wow this thread really got sidelined! Let's get back to the Darwin. Any update from the manufacturer?

From what I hear, the release date should be this month sometime. I believe they are waiting to make sure all patents are in place before releasing.

Thanks, I'll cool my heels till they announce. Should be soon enough, and thanks again for your thoughts. Keeps the thread inclusive, fun and lively!

I sure would like to see the final version before I decide if this is for me. Is it aluminum or stainless steel perhaps{hoping} and of course price will also be important. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is?

It is made by EVOLV: Home Page but no info shows yet, just sign up for "Release Notification".

Wish I could be of more help. But, I have to say that I am very excited to see more people going into SMART devices. This will only make vaping better and better. AngusATAT's posts are intriguing and I'm super stoked to see Darwin. :)

It's anodized aluminum, made in a CNC machine. The supplier (evolvapor.com) is making the Darwin themselves. We'll have a pic of the finalized unit this coming week, after they get some anodized. I've seen a pic of the final case, and it looks quite a bit different than the beta cases that we've seen pics of in this thread so far. A bit shorter, thinner, and not quite as plain.

Before we restart speculative criticism, all over again and with no accurate information as to what is "under the hood" of this new device, why not wait until the specs are released and the manufacturer is ready to present more details and answer questions. Obviously, this is working towards some new designs that we have not seen before.

In the interest of seeing our vaping devices "evolv" :p - why not give this the benefit of the doubt, at least until the details are provided? There are many sophisticated and very qualified people working on the device, testing the device and monitoring this thread. When the details are revealed, I feel confident they will not be shy about discussing their opinions, compliments and/or concerns.

I lack technical expertise but I do have project management experience exploring new applications of elsewhere existing technologies. I greatly appreciate seeing people exploring new directions, especially in efforts to improve vaping and help more people get off cigarettes. While I have no real clue what will be in this device, I whole-heartedly support efforts towards the evolution of vaping technology and towards trying to improve the experience.

FWIW, the non-user replaceable battery was a HUGE criticism in the iPhone and that device not only became one of the best selling phones ever, it also changed the directions of the cell phone industry. While I may still be a fan of user replaceable batteries (in phones and vaping devices) I am certainly willing to see what this device offers and listen to what the experts have to say once they have the actual facts to evaluate.

And, as we are already vaping and these new Smart Devices are just now coming to market, we pretty much all have "back-up" devices anyway.

Previous posts indicate more information is imminent. I say, let's wait and see - it could turn out to be interesting.

I'm a little concerned about the use of a built in proprietary battery...you'd either have to have 2 complete devices or keep something else around as a backup and to use while charging. It will be interesting to see how a fixed-battery device in that price range will get accepted.

I don't see it as an issue... for me, anyway. In order to kill the batt in 16 hours, I had to vape twice as hard as I normally would. Vaping normally, it lasted two days. So I just plug it in when I go to bed at night, and it's fully charged when I unplug it in the morning. Granted, I don't go balls to the wall with the wattage like Mutt does, but even he couldn't drain the battery in less than 13 hours. :)
