Dehydration and Vaping

I was browsing the forum and didn't see anything recent about this so I figured I would shoot a quick post for newer vapers. I am new to ECF but have been vaping for a few years and recently I have been noticing a lot of people who are complaining about getting a rash/headache/dry mouth from "e-liquid". If this is happening chances are you are not allergic to VG/PG or anything of that nature it is possible you are just dehydrated. As a general rule of thumb when people are putting down the analogs and picking up an e-cig i recommend almost doubling water intake as vaping dehydrates you much faster then smoking.

I don't know I drink maybe 2-3 bottled waters a day and vape like it's going out of style. No rashes, headaches, or sore throat either. Some people maybe more sensitive to it I guess, then there is the vaping hypochondriac theory. IMHO there are a lot of people attributing every odd feeling they get to vaping when chances are if they were smoking a cigarette and got a headache they would just grab an aspirin and not post about it.

For me, it's definitely the PG/VG ratio. When I first started, I was using blends as high as 80pg/20vg and eventually found max VG to be the best option. My mouth and throat would get extremely dry when I was using juices with alot of PG, and this disappeared when I switched to high VG ratio juices. Granted, I do still get very dehydrated from vaping, and do have to drink tons of water to compensate, but I don't have the dry mouth and throat issue anymore.

Point is, it varies person to person. I find that gatorade works very well to keep you hydrated, and if you can learn to like the taste, coconut water works really well too.

Yep! I have also been at 0 nicotine for about a month. Had a friend whip up a batch of Peppermint at 3 mg nicotine, and noticed that within a couple of hours I was getting dry mouth and my throat was starting to clog up a bit. Dumped that tank and went back to my 0 nic and everything was gravy again. Of course, there are other potential variables - his juice was 100% VG whereas my daily vape is 80/20 VG/PG, he made his at home from a flavor I've never had, etc, but I do think it's likely the nicotine itself.

Coconut water keeps you hydrated better than gatorade.
I used to know the guy who invented gatorade, Dr. Cade.
The story you might have heard is true. He was having some beers with the UF football team coach
and the coach asked if the good doctor could figure out what could be done to re-hydrate his players after scrimmage and games.
Dr Cade went out to practice the next day and took urine/sweat samples of the players and went off to the lab.
The rest is history.
Basically, gatorade is all the stuff you pee and perspire minus the toxins.
Anyway, drink coconut water while you vape and you won't get dehydrated or have to drink as much water.

Hello :) Quite a few people bring of dehydration and vaping. I made a New Years resolution to start using nicotine again, and noticed that my lips were getting chapped. Also, my skin was drying out. For 6 months I was doing 0 nicotine, and didn't have these issues. Extra water is always a good idea :)

Happens every winter to my wife and she does not smoke or vape.

Yes, coconut water worked for my EXTREME dehydration and electrolyte problems when nothing else would -- my electrolytes were so seriously out of whack, my feet and ankles swelled up, and it was very painful to walk. When I started drinking coconut water mixed with pineapple juice (it covers the taste of the coconut water, and is also high in potassium), the problem completely disappeared.

Just drinking gallons of water daily is NOT a good thing, because it will flush the necessary electrolytes completely out of you.

Yup, had to triple mine and add something with electrolytes...but then again I go through around 30ml/day

My brother recently started vaping and has told me about his problem with this. His throat is very dry in the mornings, to the point where he can barely speak.

If he's hydrating, make sure you keep an eye on that...that's basically what happened to me before I had an allergic reaction to the concentration of PG. It's like my body was trying to warn me.

I do 100% VG and it doesn't dry out my throat like PG. All my liquid is DIY, and the only variable the changed was the nicotine.

I'm looking into doing this too. Where do you get your stuff from?

:w00t: That's some outfreakingstanding information!!! Thanks for that! :w00t:

I need to drink coconut water, but I don't like the taste. I'll be giving that a try just as soon as I go off duty.

I'd like to see some real numbers on vaping and dehydration....

I agree, anecdotal stories are not the same as actual medical proof.

I get my blood tested every year, complete profile. , but since I started vaping, my profiles are showing dehydration. This has been flagged now by 2 internists. All other possible causes have been ruled out, because there is nothing else going on with my health. (they did not know I vape, I told them after they gave me the results, as I wanted to explore how this problem might be fixed.)

I just talked to another vaper here who has similar medical records!

I have never had this show up on a blood profile in 50 years. I doubled my water intake when I began vaping and so was surprised to see these test results.

I think this is a problem for many vapers, and should be taken seriously, since it puts the body under a great deal of stress, as well as adversely affecting gum tissue health, etc.

what brand of coconut water do you use? We mostly only have walmart here so not a lot of choices. Gatorade has way too much sugar for me.

About the nicotine, now wondering if vaping 0 nic would help ameliorate this.....anyone have more info on this?
