I don't think the coils resistance matters, but I'm not a 100%. Anyways, the calculator looks cool

I do feel fairly limited to what my resistance of the coil can be for TC.

Limited by material I feel comfortable using, which in turn limits me to resistance of that material. Some material can also be too delicate to work with at certain sizes. I'm also limited by my build deck, and atomizer design. Since I need to build spaced coils, I'm more limited on the number of wraps I can use. Finally I'm limited on what resistance ranges are ideal for my mod based on the TCR of the coil material.

I guess it feels like I just start by seeing what resistance range I need to be in for my material and mod. Then the rest is what can I actually make fit in my deck and not require so much wattage that it is unsafe at low input voltages, or make the atomizer/tank get too hot during normal usage. This usually equates to using the thinnest wire I am willing to deal with for the given material.

I don't really get the logo either. Maybe it's a German thing?

They are based in a old disused coal-mine so the logo is to reflect that, personally I like it certainly unique and not to flashy.

Very cool. Thank your for posting this. I like it more now that I understand what it is. I tried to find a picture of the coal mine online, but apparently there are quite a few in that area. Most of the pictures I found were all of the same one. I did learn a bit more about "The Ruhr" area though, and the rise and decline of their coal industry.

The wife's side of the family lives in Germany so maybe they will take me to the area the next time we are able to visit.

To be honest I was the same I found it very perculiar when I first saw it, but when I found out they was based in a old coal mine it grew on me, it's quite nice that they have recognised a part of there countries heritidge rather then putting a big no6 on the side or whatever else. And that would be amazing I love visiting places like that makes you think how far we have come.

Just back from a trip in Germany, a very nice place...to visit, so clean and also kinda cheap, I found out how it was so clean, the homeless were always out picking up any rubbish, I found out because the local super markets have machines that gives food vouchers for all rubbish brought in, I think it was 2 dollars for 6 empty plastic bottles ( A loaf of bread is about 1.5 dollars there)

But more interesting I seen very very few vapers, here in Northern Ireland it's more common to see a vaper than a smoker... I would say this is due to the fact in Northern Ireland it's 14 dollars for 20 smokes vs the 7 dollars in Germany.

Anyway I found myself a vape shop (After googling to find one) and I ended up showing off the dicode they had never heard of it lol, and it was not one of them basic ego type shops either, as they had provari so and kayfuns for sale, anyway found it funny that a German vape shop had never heard of a German made mod...

What was also funny was the fact it was "German made" wasn't a selling point for him, he told me he likes to buy well made stuff from the USA etc

That's interesting. I have to admit that Dicode's country of origin alone made me feel more confident in their mods than many others. I guess it may be a personal bias, but I just feel more confident with electronics from the US, Japan, and Germany. If its a mechanical product, then Swiss made stuff is awesome as well.

Yeah rabbix, I completely agree the fact it was made in Germany was the reason I got it ... I just love German stuff, my car, bike, work shirts, airsoft gear all German made, all high quaility, I even use zymol (German) car cleaning gear lol

I have most of the major brands of 26650 TC regulated mods. The 26650's are if anything a mixed bag. If given ~20W or less drive duty they hold up all day and then some. Push it much more than 25-30W and serious drooping starts happening.

While we all have heard that resistance does not matter on regulated mods, those of us who use TC and want to squeeze the maximum amount of run time out of our batteries have to juggle some values to reach an optimum load for our mods to regulate.

I stick with low mass 28-32AWG wire. Less mass means less power is needed to heat it up and regulate a temperature. Smaller wire usually means higher resistance.

We need enough resistance or high enough TCR value for our mods to regulate well. Here comes a trade off - more windings equate to more surface area (more efficient vaping) but higher resistance. Higher resistance means that over the drain cycle of the battery the mod might be BOOSTING rather than BUCKING the voltage. Generally boosting is not as efficient as bucking. Possibly effecting run time.

1ohm @ 20W = 4.47V (4.47A)
0.512ohm @ 20W = 3.2V (6.25A)

While the 1/2 ohm build above draws more current, the voltage required to get 20W of output is well within a mod's ability to
'buck' the battery voltage over the entire drain cycle and might actually last longer than the higher resistance (1ohm) build.

I'm starting to wonder if lower resistance builds might actually have more run time.

coil mass and specific heat capacity of the wire you are using are other significant contributing factors!

I hope it is a port for updating software if needed in the future.

As far as the recharging goes, I have the Provari Radius which is reputed to have an excellent recharger, but these days I find it better to swap out and charge the batteries on my Nitecore - I seem to get better battery life. So for me a charging dock is not really high on my list of wants

It wont be. There is no USB for data transfer and a wireless upgrade option, say by bluetooth, might be possible in the future but not on these. Charging only!!

FWIW, I emailed Dicodes a few weeks ago when I was getting ready to press the purchase button - to ask if there was likely to be an update or new version in the near future. Being all the way down in Australia I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to purchase a mod that will be superseded as soon as I received it.

They were fast and friendly in their response and there was no updates or new models planned in the near future.

So I already have a feeling that they will be great with customer service should the need arise to contact them in the future

To be honest I don't honestly know what they could add that would improve the Dicodes for me , menu works great and is glitch free and it has features already which I wouldn't ever need to use , along with the upcoming regulations too I honestly don't think any company will be able to come out with groundbreaking technology now sadly.

Agreed, pretty much spot on as it is. However, afaik, the TPD regs dont really impinge on mod development so hopefully your second point may be overly pessimistic!!

I can think of a number of improvements that they could make to the firmware of the #6.

• coming from Sleep the battery indicator is often zero
• you must have an atomizer installed to navigate the menu
• the TCR value can only be edited by '5', hence a value of '404' or '366' is impossible to enter
• I very much dislike how the resistance is set, ether rework how it is done or provide better guidance on how it is used (or both) would be nice

Am loving this mod, still getting my head around the menu - but it is just one of those learning things and getting a bit easier. Boost seems a lot more full-on than the Provaris I am used to. Keen to hear from others on their use and settings.

The mod only arrived yesterday arvo so am yet to delve into the TC functions as yet. Battery still showing around 75% after 6 hours of use.

I was surprised how compact it is, I expected it to be a bit bigger, it fits beautifully in my hand and I like the heft due partly to the monster 26650 battery.

On mine you can definitely still go through the menu without an atomizer on. The mod will sometimes highlight the "error code" without the atomizer in, but you can press the fire button to deselect it, and then go through the menu as usual.

This certainly seems to be done differently than other mods. The Dicodes appears to be running a small amount of current through the coil when it does this test. I always check the temp/resistance screen after performing the test to make sure it looks normal and if not I run the test again. It seems to be fairly accurate for me, with the exception of SS316 that has been hit or miss. After I decided to give up on SS316 and just use Ti wire for temp control, I haven't really had any issues since. I still prefer the way YiHi locks resistance, but I prefer Dicodes over the automatic way Evolv has implemented this.

I have wondered if Dicodes is just being more honest about the accuracy of our devices. While I can configure more precise settings in my DNA device, if it is still has about +-10F accuracy from whatever I set, then does having smaller increments actually help? Regardless I do like that my DNA device can set a higher TCR. I have a profile just for safely cleaning my Ti coils that works great, but cannot be duplicated on my Dicodes because it works best with a TCR of 700.

I have tried going back and forth between the Dicodes and my DNA200. I really can't explain how, but the Dicodes still seems to be just a tad smoother to me. When using a MTL type setup I could do a 15 sec pull on the Dicodes and it really seemed like the temperature was steady the entire time. When I have tried to accomplish the same on the DNA200, it seems good in the beginning but the coil feels like it is very slowly increasing in temp the longer it is fired. I could probably tweak the mod in escribe and eventually produce the same results, but my 3 different Dicodes mods can all do the same thing out of the box using the same settings.
