Boost seems a lot more full-on than the Provaris I am used to. Keen to hear from others on their use and settings.

Honestly I have not used this setting, but I have used Heater Protection mode and I felt it worked fairly well as "ghetto temp control" for Kanthal. If the "punch" seems a bit heavy in boost, then you might want to try lower your Power Limit "PLim" setting in the Heater Menu since that is what dictates the top range of your boost.

One of the best features of Dicodes is displaying your last vape statistics on screen every time the mod is fired. Many of my atomizers have steel tanks where you are unable to see the juice levels. On every non-Dicodes mod I've used, the only way I know if the juice is low is when the taste is off (or I physically check the juice level). On the Dicodes I can tell even before I notice a taste difference just by looking at the values of the last time it was fired. If the mod was using ~20 watts to maintain a 230C temp after I just filled it up, then I know its time to fill it up again when I see the wattage has started to drop (because there is less juice in the coils). For my example I would usually see the latest wattage used was around 15w instead of 20w...time to fill the tank back up. That the display is right there in your face on the top of the box mods just makes it that much easier.

It's a fantastic feature and I wish all my mods did this.

That is very cool, I didn't know that and never use steel tanks because of the fear of the 'great unknown' LOL

Thanks for that info!

I know that most won't have the time for this request but I thought I would ask anyway :)

I am hoping for a little guidance for my first TC build. Kind of a dummies guide if you will.

I normally vape Kanthal at around 14-16 watts on a 1.2 Ohm build using Japanese Cotton 3mm inside diameter.

Can someone please help me pop the cherry for my first TC build? :D

I currently only have the dicodes wire that came with the mod. Other types are still in transit.

Can someone give me a step my step guide on suggested coil and a walk through of the setting I will need to get the most from it. I don't need to delve to far into the whys and wherefores - just want to get a coil in an vape using the simplest of settings to get me started :)

I am purely a flavour chaser, I don't mind building a different Ohm coil to what I am used to. Prefer single for starts and it will be in a RTA as my dripper is also in transit. Obviously I will have to use the Dicodes wire until other types arrive.

Again I understand that this is a big ask, so imagine that people may not respond - but I thought it doesn't hurt to ask anyway :)

PS. I've build countless micro coils with kanthal, obviously not spaced. But spaced coils don't seem like it will be a problem.

Thanks for reading this dummy request ;)

I must be doing something really dumb with my input figures on Steam Engine???

Can't possibly imagine I need this amount of wraps LOL

What sort of resistance should I be aiming for, and what watts would I then apply to the coil. OR does the mod set the power level??

Apologies to the dumb questions, I just gotta get over the first hurdle and I will be fine :D

Nice, found a way to do something similar with the Evolv chip messing around with escribe w/ "Last Power" setting for the running screen. Although your forced to give up a spot on your UI for it.

Awesome, what wattage do I set or does the mod do that ??? 20W??
20W is usually what I keep mine at. You will be able to tell if you need to raise it, if you cannot reach the desired temp. If your using more power than you need, and its making your coils pop right when you fire, then maybe lower it a bit. You will end up just figuring out what you personally like in the end.

Thanks very much, those couple of replies do really help clarify some things for me :thumb::thumb:

Honestly the more I mess with making coils for temp control, the more it seems like 5-7 spaced wraps is where you want to be regardless of wire material or coil diameter. If you need to reach a certain resistance, then it is better to just mess with the coil ID or wire gauge in my opinion. I tend to prefer 2.75-3.0ID.

I think you'll find that the Resitherm sample that they give you with the mod won't require much wattage to heat up to temp. (<=30W)

With medium to higher TCR values (I think that wire is TCR=320) I would not worry about how low of resistance your coil turns out to be.

Some folks like to place enough windings to just cover the hole, I tend to wind the width of the deck. I generally use spaced and always dry fire a few times to ensure there are no hot legs or hot/cold spots in the coil.

I use rope so I size my coil ID to same or slightly less than the rope and size the rope OD to match (or slightly larger) the juice channels.

    Thanks very much GeorgeS!

That is very helpful and you touch upon a point that had me a little bit unsure of... for some reason I didn't think you should dry fire these TC coils? I bought an ohm reader with fire capability, so dry firing off the mod is not problem, just didn't know if this does something to the coil.

...or do I dry fire in TC mode on the mod - to alleviate any issues???

    Thanks again :)
