That's the basic question after having a conversation with my mom who also vapes and said after her batteries die she's done with vaping (with smoking too)...which isn't hard to understand considering all of the mods and apvs we've seen, but what do you guys think...is it time to stop touting the saving money claim and just admit that it can be expensive but that's ok?

I say we still tout the saving money claim and also admit that it can be expensive?

Some people save a pile of money by vaping instead of smoking and some people like the mods/upgrades/hobby and spend way more than they did when smoking.

The bottom line for most of us is that vaping has helped us quit smoking. Personally, I am saving a lot of money and I am not smoking; that's what's important to me!

Saving money was not a priority for me when I started vaping 2 years ago. However, as an unexpected bonus, I now save aprox 80% compared to smoking analogs. I have an old trusty lavatube, a few ego batteries as spares and a couple of Vivi novas. I mix my own eliquid and wrap my own coils. I smoked 2 packs-a-day for the past 25 years and now I vape around 4 to 5 ml per day.

Big chunk of the savings come from having to mix my own eliquid. I mix my own eliquid not because I want save money but because I can adjust the flavors according to my liking.

I was spending approx. $200 USD a week on traditional cigarettes for my husband and myself.

After purchasing the kits, which I saw as an investment, they were a one time purchase, those equaled one weeks worth of cigarettes.

I spend about $60-$70 a week now for cartomizers. That would be the amount I spend to maintain the equal amount to cigarettes.

I have spent more here and there, buying different flavors, buying some disposables to have as "back up" and just playing around but those purchases aren't necessary.

From my point of view, yes, I am saving money, and lots of it. Around $400 a month minimum.

But I am new to ecigs and the whole world surrounding it. So I may be missing something that I haven't discovered yet that will cause my costs to increase.

Echoing what flintlock62 said. I'm refilling my cartos and that's much cheaper than when I was buying prefilled all the time. It's a little on the messy side and sometimes a bit annoying but the savings make it worthwhile definitely.

I've been vaping for a year and a half. If you are the type who has to get another Provari because they came out with a new color, you aren't saving money.

Don't judge the cost of this in the first couple months. Even a frugal vaper isn't going to save a lot of money, unless you live in New York.

Once you have a solid PV and a backup, you know what juices you like and buy in bulk... It's way cheaper than smoking.

Add DIY, and vaping becomes dirt cheap.

If you've been vaping for 6 months, and you aren't saving a ton of money, you need help with a shopping addiction.

I spend less than $5 a week on cartos...less than that on juice.

haven't broken even yet, but have enough equipment and juice to not HAVE to buy any supplies for a month or more, and I'm expecting to be in the black by the end of May. and if i never pick up a cigarette again, the $500 start up cost to buy enough gear to quit smoking, is a tiny investment to make so i can see my kids grow up.

after discussing vaping/smoking/asthma in another thread, i realized that i am no longer paying $175 a month for asthma medicine, so i think i have a surplus now!

first 2-3 months u spend more on e-cig toys cuz u trying to find the best for u on a year u spend at least the half of the money u spend on smokingmore than a year u still spend the half but u buy new things :p
the best way to count the money u spend is an exel sheet all ur invoices / the days u vaping after . almost 2 years vaping i am on 1.42/perday vs 8/per day on smoking

Im not even close to breaking even yet. Ive been vaping for 2.5 months. I quit analogs officially on March 16. Since then Ive saved 121.55 not buying analogs. Ive spent 385 total on my drip tip, rebuildable atty, provari mini and twins battery extension. (yes I was listing that from top to bottom as I looked at my mod) That doesnt include my e-liquid. Which isnt bad. I get that for $14 a bottle. Unless I splurge and buy from Euless Vapor and spend 16 for a bottle. That only happens when I run out of Smurfberry or Midnight Macchiato. But at $7.15 a pack, I will be saving money in short order. 38 days at this rate. Not including e-liquid.

Im also going to be saving money because I wont be buying atty heads for my nova anymore. I took it all apart and figured out how its made. Now I rebuild those with my SS mesh wicks and coils. Tastes better too(after the first tank or so) and doesnt get dry hits. SO yes, in the long run, it will save you a lot of money. The issue here is that your looking at the small picture. Consider the fact that people have been spending tons of money on cigarettes for 10+ years. If you spend a lot of money getting set up getting the right equipment for you, then of course its going to look like its a lot more expensive. Look at the costs after a couple years. The people that are in it just to quit smoking ARE going to save a lot more money. You get a $100 starter kit. Evolve to a $200 kit and go from there just buying carto's, atty heads and e-liquids, youre going to save a ton. But if you break it apart to the tinkerers and hobbyists, then no youre probably not going to save much. There are just too many scenarios to really be able to answer the question the way you want. If you break it to different criteria, then yes and no. If that makes sense. I wrote this over about an hour as I had free time at work. Sorry if its all over the place. I have horrible ADH.....ooh shiny.....

I used to spend 300 a month on 1 pack American Spirits and a can a chew a day, that was more than my initial setup and plenty of juice to last more than a month, now it is just maintenance with juice and occasional accessory. Not only that but the health factor, throat and mouth cancer, heart, lung the list goes on with analogs and chew.
