Seems to me that it depends on your previous smoking habits and brand. As well as what you bought as an e-cig, as well as what time frame you expect to break even in. I discount future medical bills for the reason that it's totally hypothetical and we may be in a car crash tomorrow.

If you are all about saving the maximum amount of money in the shortest time then i think that unless you can make your own coils/wicks and liquid you will be disappointed. The initial outlay of buying e-cigs can be large as well as finding a setup you enjoy. But it's perfectly reasonable to buy a $300 mod and expect savings after a few months - as long as you don't get 'magpie syndrome' like me and buy everything shiny!

I am not discounting the health benefits of using them, but i have always wondered how concerned we used to be when going to any store and buying cigarettes as cheaply as possible.

My wife figured up what I've spent in the last 3 months...
Well, at this rate, I start saving when I'm around 174. LOL! But I've pretty much got everything I "require" to vape for about 1 year. So I should start saving....
OOoohhh...
Vaper Joes.. Sigelei ZMax V3 OLED Telescopic and this is niffy.. Zippo e-cig ....be right back!

Where was I..
Oh yeah, saving money.
Ah.. No. Not saving a dime, but I'm MUCH healthier and having a BLAST!! :)

Live long & Vape on!

Granted I'm pretty new to vaping, but I'm sure I'll be saving money, largely due to the users on this forum in fact. Had I just bought devices without knowing what I know now I'd undoubtedly be unsatisfied with vaping or else blind-fire purchasing other devices on a trial-and-error basis until something stuck well. I started off with the KR808D1, which I love and intend to keep using. I do have a Vamo V2 on order though which will be my tool of choice for vaping over longer periods of time, like on the deck relaxing or in my office at home working away. The 808 will be my more conveniently sized on-the-go tool of choice. Now that these items are purchased, from here on out I really just need eLiquid and a freshing up of cartomizers for the 808 or heads for the Vamo every once in a while. Sure, batteries will eventually need to be replaced, along with my Vamo itself if I drop it enough times to destroy it, but it simply doesn't compare to what I was doing to myself with the magnitude of cigars I was smoking, both on the costs front and the health front.

Like most people would agree, there are up front costs, but they are quickly subsided by long term savings and health benefits. Truth be told, even if you smoke regular cigarettes, there are still up front costs when you are buying by the carton, so in some ways it could be a wash when comparing the two in terms of up front costs alone. Non-cost related long term benefits are irreplaceable though... I feel better. I smell better. I breathe better. Even if I'm breaking even, this downright rocks. If I'm saving money, that's just plain awesome on top of it all.

When I decided to start vaping rather than going through a progression of different PVD's I just bit the bullet and went with the Provari as I was already familiar and liked ecigs. I started with a black Provari with the ext. cap, 2 18650 batteries, a dual charger a 5 pack of cartos, and a drip tip. After not liking the cartos I tried a Kanger Protank which I did like and ordered 4 more. So my total investment for hardware was about $330.00. Being a pack a day smoker at $7.00/pack I was spending $49/week on analogs.. I spent about $50.00 on various juices and fortunately there were none that I considered unvapable. I consume 2ml/day and as I purchased my ejuice at $5.00/15ml that works out to about $5.00/week for juice. I find my coils last me about 2 weeks before needing to be replaced at say $1.50/coil
Basically after 7 weeks I am breakeven on hardware and my difference in cost moving forwaard would besay $6/week juice and coil as opposed to $49/week for analogs. So I will be seeing a savings of $43/week by vaping. That is over $2200/year that would have went up in smoke had I not started vaping.

When I purchased the Provari I had reservations concerning it's size. The only other ecig I tries was the analog look alikes. I must say though I read many posts stating that they use their Provari when at home and not on the go I find that the size of my Provari with the ext. proved to not be a problem at all. It fits into my pants pocket with no problem. I have no issue using it while I drive either . Although I still have not been able to figure out a way in holding it in my mouth with no hands like an analog. LOL I honestly see no need, other than a back up spare, for having multiple devise. None the less with all the new found savings I probably will pick up some new and different devices. I really would like to get a wooded box mod made of fine exotic woods.

6 months vaping

£60 Disposables
£20 Rechargeable cigarlikes
£40 eGo kit
£17 eGo C Battery
£27 eGo Twist
£18 Protank
£36 Vamo
£10 Protank heads
£98 on Juice

£326 in total

I was spending £10 a week on smoking Making £260

Personally for me it has cost £66 more than smoking over this six months. However some of the expense was the learning curve and hopefully now i have a good setup, it will be less costly.

Right behind you joe. Was easily doing 2-2.5 packs a day and since I switched solely to vaping I know I've definitely saved a lot in 4 months vs the cost of cigs. I always explain to people that ask that the initial investment and finding what works for you is the most expensive time....although I do plan on a few more toys to add :D
