Do we really save money?

That's the basic question after having a conversation with my mom who also vapes and said after her batteries die she's done with vaping (with smoking too)...which isn't hard to understand considering all of the mods and apvs we've seen, but what do you guys think...is it time to stop touting the saving money claim and just admit that it can be expensive but that's ok?

It's been 82 days since I bought analogs. My total expenditure on equipment and juice is $290. Inventory includes 2 1000 mah ego batts & 1 650 mah batt, 2 Kamger T3's, 12 coil heads for the T3's, 1 Protank, 5 coil heads for the Protank, 70 ml of assorted juice flavors and a Vamo V3 that just shipped from FT.

In the same time period I would have spent $480 on analogs ($180 per month = pack a day). You may also want to consider the health related costs to smoking versus vaping. So in answer to your question, nope not time to stop touting the cost saving angle at least not for me.

EDIT: sorry, forgot $10 I spent for wick and wire :)

I have been vaping since 2008... Prior to vaping , I smoked 2 to 2.5 packs of analogs per day ( 6 dollars a pack). Over those six years I would have spent over 26 thousand dollars on cigs and I have only spent roughly 5 to 6 thousand on vaping since I started. At this point, I have all my tech... Outside of an occasional wild itch to experiment or try-out some of the improved MOD designs that I have been watching for a while. Currently DIY my juices and only spend roughly 180.00 or so a year to do that... Outside of occasional purchases of favorites that have a shelf life too short to stock in large quantity, so I buy them recurrently in smaller quantities.

I know I have been. But then again i've kept it simple with a ego style battery and protank. I've also been rebuilding my own coils as well. I'm pretty sure i'll still be in the black when I get my mech/rba. And that's even with carton prices being only $25 at the Indian reservation. Now if I was comparing it to the real cost of smokes in N.Y. state I'd really be ahead.

However I really don't look at it this way even I was spending more. I know that it has done wonders for my health, i've noticed I don't get winded anywhere near as easily. I smell better and I also feel that i'll get to the point eventually where I quit vaping very easily if I decide I want to.

Oh and another bonus if I want I call sell my equipment if I want to. Good luck selljng a pile of cigarette butts. Lol

Eventually but I'm seriously in the hole right now. Spend $100 on a cig a like kit which was junk. Then ~$80 on my current set-up I will keep until the batteries die.(twister/evod). Spent $50 on ejuice to find one flavor I like, ordered 90ml more of it for another $50. Getting ready to place an order for some spare evods and heads for another $30. So $310 so far. It'll take around three month to break even counting the money wasted figuring out what works for me. After that I'll save ~$120 month for a couple of months. I shouldn't need anything for several months other than juice that will average $15/month. I'll call it a net savings of $100/month but we have cheap cig prices here in tabacco country. But long term savings with health care is substantially more, no less quality of life improvements.

I figure I spent about $175 on analogs a month at a pack a day. My first few months I spent a about 250 a month with vaping, but it flaten off to less than 50 a month dyi, which includes trying out some new flavors. right now I have supplies to last me 2-3 months, then I will need to spend $50.

The big issue is how I and most people get started. I started with gas station ecigs, then bought an over price starter kit, bought several ejuices based on reviews, bought several different ego bats, etc.. until I found the right equipment, then bought supplies for mixing my own, etc... It took awhile to find some mixs I liked. I cost to learn what worked for me. But once I found the right stuff the cost per month has dropped way below amalogs.

No. Perhaps eventually. Now hooked on the gear, the journey, and the search for the best vape. Not what I expected. So much better.
Agreed...
Once I find my one or two go-to flavors and my ideal setup, then I'll start saving money.
In the meantime, it really is an adventure, and worth the price when it's possible to experiment with something so flexible.
Dare I say... this is... fun? :p

I've been saving a TON of money outside of my initial research/investment in gear. I don't really have GAS (aka "Gear Acquirement Syndrome) and have found both the portable and home PV set-ups that work great for me. The only PV I'd be tempted to buy in the future, and I feel I'm maybe missing, is a box mod that sits nice and upright on a desk.

I'm fine with rebuilding coils, and washing out tanks... (I have a slight background in building small electronics) so right now only thing I spend money on is ordering new flavor concentrates for experimenting with juice recipes... which isn't exactly an expensive thing to do at all.

Every week I don't smoke analogs, is a week I'm saving what would of costed over $100 for my pack 1/2 a day habit. (They cost $11.00 - $12.50 now where I live.) Also, strangely enough, I now feel I'm saving even more by not being "that guy" that people bum cigarettes off of when going to bars. I didn't notice how many times that actually happens until I was no longer the source.

That's at least $5,200 dollars savings over the year. Pretty happy about that!

Out the door i wasted $100 on a cigalike kit that didnt work for me, then moved to egos and CE4's. I have a few kanger T3's and vivi novas that I rebuld now so Im just strarting to save. But I am usually $80-$100 shy of breaking even. Which I hope will be in two months or so, if I can resist the temptation to buy another mod.

i personally wasn't able to quit smoking until the 1st electronic cigs were introduced, which helped me quit, then eventually quit vaping as well for around 3-4 yrs after smoking cigs for around 10yrs. tempted to smoke again after some stressful events, i chose vape instead and used some of the money i had saved over time to purchase items. now that i'm into rba's, higher end hybrid's, and stuff, i think it's more safe to say i basically traded an unhealthy, expensive, & disgusting habit, for a healthier but still somewhat just as expensive alternative lol :D i thought i was saving a lot still till all this new stuff came around.

So if you are just into ego batteries you save alot of money if you don't buy knockoffs

What I've always said and done.

Buy Janty (the original designer and maker) / Ovale or Joytech and buy Janty / Ovale / Dekang juices and you'll never need more than an ego-c / ego-t.

I can't imagine sticking some colored clearomizer on top of my ego battery when the tanks work perfectly well and a tankful lasts a whole day. I've just been chain vaping a tad watching a whole series of 'Las vegas' on that set up and that's forty minutes. I went through less than 0.5ml of juice in that time as my tank was less than half full and is now still about a sixth full.

I reckon these fancier devices probably use up more juice due to leaks and burning hotter.

I dunno, each to their own, but I don't get the need for more than what I have and I smoked since the age of 12 for 25 years.

I don't have OCDC though and have never been that into shopping, a pair of shoes or sneakers will last me two years or more and I always buy on sale but top brands so quality at a reasonable price.

As for surfing vape shops all day - I'd rather be writing, reading, or socializing to be quite frank.

Not trying to diss anyone but for those wanting to save $$$$ - my advice holds ground.

I had my Ego-T for over 6 months when I sold it to go back to smoking (cld only get 11mg juice back then and was too high for me, okay now can get 6mg) and when I sold it to the guy I told him if those original 2 atties (never in 6 months needed a new atty) died on him in trhe next two months I'd personally buy him a new one.

Those 2 Janty ego-t atty's - a dry burn clean, or warm water soak - let em dry and whammo - back to good as new again.

Recently bought the Ego-C. One free sample juice was super dark and sticky and started getting burning taste and less vape. Soaked atty head in a cup of warm water for 2 mins, swishing it around, let it dry for two days and just popped it back on and vaping Virginia/menthol mix - and it's as good as new, if not better.

Buy original brands, buy the best brands, try to get them in a sale if you can. Just like good brands of shoes - they'll last forever and the customer service is impeccable with the companies I've mentioned. Would never try and save $20 on a knock off atty or battery from China - no way, no how, I live here and could have saved half the money I spent on my new Ego-C set up by buying from a Chinese knock-off site but just now way, QC here is not good. Got my Ovale shipped from Seoul, Korea (they get them from Italy) and you can feel the quality.
