Do you consider yourself a non-smoker?

Hahaha... Now that I can actually smell other smokers from across the room I can clearly conclude that I am NOT a smoker. And, now, I publicly apologize to all the non-smokers in my life who graciously tolerated me for all those years while I was a smoker and I honestly did not realize how disagreeable I was.

Not vaping yet but I expect I will just class myself as a smoker who has chosen not to have a cigarette. When I quit for a couple years (2002-2007) I classed myself that way when asked. I just see vaping as a way to keep me from having that next cigarette with the added bonus of giving my co-workers a more pleasant trip in the company van when heading out of town because I won't have that horrid smoker smell about me anymore!

I posted the info in my signature line (down below this comment) as a facebook status the other day. I received something like 70 'likes', and many congratulatory comments, some stating how long they'd been smoke-free.
Then my brother-in-law commented I was lying, since I was 'smoking that vaporizing thing' and still addicted to nicotine, and that posting as I did was deceiving my friends, twisting the truth like I was running for office....
Even when I asked, "If I was on the patch, would you feel the same way?" he stuck to his guns. In his eyes, I could not say I was a non-smoker.

I told him to shut the :censored: up. I have not smoked a cigarette in 30-whatever days. I get to say I've been smoke-free for 30-whatever days. I get to say how much money I haven't handed over to Philip Morris. I get to say it, because it. is. true.

Are we twins? I have a brother in law like that.

Well, at least you're not married to him.

I 'thought' I was a non-smoker after I had been vaping a year, but now that my doctor AND health insurance confirm that I'm a NON-SMOKER (in spite of knowing I vape), I KNOW I'm a non-smoker!

If I had to choose between not being able to vape, or going back to analogs, I believe I'm now empowered to completely quit. I have lots of opportunities to smoke analogs socially, but I've surprised myself: I've declined every opportunity for more than a year - even when I forgot my PV. I'm DONE with smoking! :)

I am pretty new to this scene and since I got my e-cig it has been two weeks since I last smoked a real cigarette. Still not sure if I classify myself as a non-smoker.

If somebody ask you if you're a smoker, what do you say?

Hey Magee - welcome to the forum and congrats on two weeks smoke free! And to answer your question - I ABSO-FRICKEN-LUTELY consider myself a non-smoker! I stopped smoking cigarettes over 17 months ago. Vaping is not smoking! :)

I still smoke a few a day so I'm a smoker. But I vape a whole lot more than I smoke so I guess I'm both? Why do we have to be one or the other? I thought health was the main issue. Ask if I consider myself healthy and the answer would be yes! and it wasn't when I smoked 2 PAD.

Nobody said we do. She just asked a question...

It seems a bit premature but I can pretty much say for 1 week as of today I am a non-smoker. Woooo! That felt good. :)

Very good to hear about the docs and health insurance companies, I was wondering about that. I still wonder about life insurance as some of them take a mouth swab to check for nicotine. Anybody know about this?

I had the same question as OP. I guess because we are inhaling it makes it feel like cheating. However after one day I will say the fact there is withdrawls still tells me I am definitely quitting something in cigarettes that I was addicted to. Plus I probably need to vape more :). Just hoping it helps with respiratory and heart health as far as how I feel in the long run. Only time will tell I guess.

I 'am' a non smoker. ALL vapers are non smokers ;)

Well, except for those of us who are doing a slow transition. I smoke 1/3 PAD, down from 1 1/4. Thinking about whether to bite the bullet for New Years, since I haven't seen a new step down in 4 months.

BTW, in the FDA hearings, everybody used "combustibles" instead of "analogs" and it seems to get the message across very nicely! I'm going to start saying combustibles (when I don't shorten it to "stinkys")

You'd better believe I'll start calling myself a non-smoker 24 hours after I quit combustibles!!!!!
