Reading a post directed at me, I want to clarify. I did not and do not pose my question to the OP. It was a general rhetorical question directed at the anti and non-smoker world which asserts that if vaping one is still a smoker and/or general public. I don't mean to offend anyone with this analogy: Its kinda like if you have 1/8 of particular racial blood then you ARE that race to the exclusion of the other 7/8s and that reflects an obvious ideological mindset. Because I lead a rigorously honest life, or endeavor to, if I smoke one cigarette a year, in the view of the medical establishment in particular, I'm a smoker. I would fail a polygraph if I said I wasn't a smoker in that sense. So far, I haven't had anyone ask me if I consider myself a vaper but the answer would be yes to that question also. That's all I was trying to say. Sorry. When smoking becomes less of a moral issue, I might think differently.

I still struggle with this even though I haven't smoked in over a year. If people ask, I say I quit smoking but I always throw in that I am still addicted to nicotine and use an electronic cigarette. I also still feel like a smoker, but with cooler hardware. My lungs don't feel like smoker's lungs, though. :) There are, of course, a lot of distinctions between actual smoking and PV's. I think more along the lines of " I replaced smoking " than " I quit smoking. " I just don't feel like I am being entirely honest if I label myself a non-smoker or say I quit without throwing in the PV usage and nic addiction. That is just me, though, and in my own head, since technically I am not smoking.
I do know that if all the PV's and NRT in the world suddenly disappeared, I would be buying a pack of cigarettes. That's scary.

For someone who just puffs on no-nic, though, it would be a lot different. Maybe I am just brain-washed by the anti-smoking zealots. I get stuck on the fact that I am a nicotine fiend.

My doctor is delighted with my vaping rather than my 40 Marlboro a day and if she says i am a non-smoker - because i no longer use tobacco then i am satisfied. My wife and i both stopped smoking in August this year. I'd not say i have saved much money because i love all the gadgets and things - but it has been a lot more fun, rather than just smoking thru addiction, i vape now because i enjoy doing so.
It is also rather nice to regain one's sense of smell and breathe easily without wheezing say.

One of my wiser decisions!

i totally agree - my work colleagues have been fully supportive of my vaping - often commenting on the different flavors etc and laughing at the period where i think i tried every tank on the market! I have no intention on stopping my nicotine use, but i do wish to remove a lot of the well-known health side effects that long-term smoking will do.
I smoked for 30 years but i took the view that i had been lucky and ought to quit while i was ahead!
I vape at work - in my car, i carry it when i go out and will often just have a puff in shops etc and nobody has ever complained and most are curious that i look to be 'smoking' a light sabre!
One day - hmm - i might even save some money but that was never my main reason for swapping cigarettes for vaping in the first place and to me, is of secondary importance.

Sorry - this is in reply to Tomhh on page 6.

I do understand that, as an ex-smoker, I may someday end up smoking again if vaping is no longer available. So, I do understand that distinction.

However, the whole attitude that we feel we have to admit to vaping instead of smoking as if we're cheating really irks me. It irks me because it insinuates a need to feel shame. It puts moral judgment on smoking and vaping.

I might not think it so strange and ridiculous if I were younger, if I weren't from a time when everyone smoked everywhere, in the grocery store, in the doctor's office, in classrooms, in hospitals, . . .

The total turnaround from socially acceptable to shocking and immoral just annoys the heck out of me, and seems ridiculous. It would be laughable if it weren't so vicious and cruel.

So, I am a non-smoker simply because I do not smoke. True, I'm also an ex-smoker. I am also an ex-child and an ex-student. However, I do not see the need to make that distinction because, to me, that's saying that I have some immoral addiction that I need to admit to.

I do not! I am a good, decent person and refuse to be dragged into someone else's judgmentalism.

If somebody ask you if you're a smoker, what do you say?

i tell them NO, thank Santa! ;) i also go on to tell them that i "vape", which usually leads to tons of questions of all sorts...and i happily answer every single one...btw, my doctor is downright ASTONISHED that i have been smoke-free for almost two years. :)

Yes.

If you don't smoke, you are not a smoker.
If you use nicotine, feel free to call yourself a nicotine user though.
:)

Now, if the ANTZ succeed in taking away your ability to use nicotine in a healthier way, and you have to go back to cigarettes.
Then you will be a smoker again, and I will be too.

Really well-said and I so agree. :)

I consider myself a non smoker. I truly believe that if I was unable to vape tomorrow that I would not resort to cigs again. My husbands still smokes on occasion and I can't stand the smell after he smokes. I don' t even like the smell of tobacco flavored juice. I can't believe I was a slave to those nasty things for so long! I've been analog free for 7 months and lovin' every minute! :)
