safe distance from a black hole
If you back up vaping with a bit of desire and willingness to quit then you will have success.
There are some people who remain fearful of returning to smoking if they cant vape even years after making the change from tobacco to vaping. Others vape to quit tobacco and then over time forget to vape.
I think you have to be willing to change for vaping to be an effective tobacco cessation tool.

I tried everything to quit smoking and nothing worked. After 35 years of smoking I wasn't quiting easily. Then I started vaping. I dual used for a while cutting down the cigs more and more. Finally one day I decided it was a waste to keep smoking so I stopped. I chain vaped for a while (and still do sometimes) but I haven't had a serious craving for cigarettes. As long as I can vape I'm fine.

I copied and pasted... This is my story 100%

Everyone thank you so much for the support and for giving out your stories and journeys. For the first time I feel like it’s possible to quit. I know it’ll be rough, but it seems like with patience and a will to quit I can do it. Thank you all again, and I wish you all the best!

Like my copy paste above, just don't loose hope. You may find yourself dual using vape and analog, but it's normal and don't hate yourself for that. ( I used to ) It is 100% possible to quit! Just keep enough vape to last you until you can get some more, because at this early stage, running out of vape is the easiest reason to go back smoking... again...

Vaping absolutely helped me quit smoking. Im one who loved smoking, i didnt just do it because i was addicted, i enjoyed it. Vaping has completely replaced the habit for me.

For me its all about Salt Nic in small stick devices. Regular ejuice just doesnt do it for me. I have a few box mods but none of them satisfy the constant urge. Even with higher nic levels the hit just isnt right. I prefer the Smok Infinix but really any small Salt Nic device that you like the size and shape of will do.

I highly recommend something as close to a cigarette as possible to get started. After that youll start to figure out what you want. Ive been off cigs for 6 months, experimented with various box mods, larger pods with replaceable coils, etc and always come back to the Infinix.

Good luck! After smoking for 25 years i can honestly say switching the habit was easy.

Also don't be thinking you HAVE to stop with the nic, now or ever.

Quite frankly I'm thrilled to be vaping JUST nicotine and my health is like, better than it ever HAS been.

There are those vapers who want to get down to 0 and just quit, and that's fine but they also shouldn't be telling a newcomer HOW to do it like it's a total THING, because for a lot of people, it isn't.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using nicotine, and exactly as much as you NEED to get off cigarettes and THEN if you want to reduce, DO or DON'T but don't base it on a random post on an ecig board, but like, with your doctor and all that.

That was just at TERRIBLE post generally, but also ESPECIALLY in a newcomer thread. Jeez.

Vaping is the only way I was able to quit smoking. I tried several times to cut down cigarettes or quit outright. Didn't work. I decided to give vaping a try. I decided to go vape only and see if I could work that out. I had a couple of weeks of still wanting cigarettes but vaping allowed me to resist doing so. After that I haven't wanted to smoke at all. So yes vaping helped me stop smoking.

Yes definitely!

I’m only four months in but vaping has worked when nothing else has. Before I started vaping this past summer I did a lot of research. Some of it was quite discouraging and lead me to believe that most people who vape to get off cigarettes eventually go back to them. I’m glad I pushed forward and didn’t listen to that because in my experience, and reading others on here, that doesn’t seem to necessarily be the case at all.

So just to answer your question, yes I believe it absolutely can!

Vaping was the only way for me to permanently put down tobacco for good.

I smoked for over 30 years. I had tried to quit using nicotine gum, patches, prescription drugs, and hypnosis. None of those methods worked for me.

I was able to quit smoking seven years ago within one week of "dual using". I tapered the cigarettes down over the week, and vaped more. I still had cigarette cravings during that week, but when I smoked it was only half of a cigarette.

I haven't touched a cigarette since. And I haven't wanted to. I loved smoking, but I love vaping even more.

Why vaping was successful for me, when the other stuff I tried failed, was vaping provided me with a healthier way to get my nicotine. It also substituted the BEHAVIORAL aspect smoking by replicating the "hand-to-mouth" and "inhale/exhale" of a cigarette, things that the gum, patches, drugs, and hypnosis didn't deal with.

It will be hard for me, and maybe the same so for others, because until you find the right combo of equipment and e-liquid that you like, it cannot possibly take the place of cigarettes. I've played around with vaping off-n-on for a couple/three years - hated what I was using, would quit vaping and smoke full-time, later try again with another e-cig...'rinse & repeat'...

I doubt sincerely if that 'rinse & repeat' is over yet for me, but I would like to at least move immediately from a vape I don't like to another one that I might - and not have months pass by where I am doing nothing but smoking.

One month without a cigarette after nearly 15 years thanks to vaping. I think the simplicity of the pod systems and the fact that I can pick up refills at the gas station where I used to get my smokes really helped me. I would chain smoke like crazy if I was out at a bar with friends so I decided to see if I could get by with just vaping one night and it just stuck. Now being around cigarettes is kind of annoying which quite frankly shocks me considering how much I used to smoke.

If all the gear and liquid were somehow Magically Transported off the Earth and into an Alien Craft, I have no doubt I'd be next in line at the Quick Trip for a pack of Marlboros ..

Until then, and for quite a few years now, the PV has kept me at bay .. I have not turned into a Cigarette Nazi Hater in the meantime, either ..

I agree with everyone here and as you can see there is no doubt that vaping is the best nic substitute out there. Just want to reiterate a very important point and that is your nic level.. Although you can still give up on 6 mg/ml I think that it is very likely you will need at least 18mg/ml to make sure you are getting enough nicotine. This is a big part of the craving but not the only one...the habit goes gradually in my experience.

Welcome and good luck to you :)

Speaking of nic level - I don't like the fact that you can't determine the level of nic in a 'real' cigarette. I tried to do that, but could never find anything tangible/reliable. So, I took a stab at 12 mg/ml - have heard here that I should go to 18, have heard othermembers say it's not necessary??? If my current set up works for me (vapor/usage/handling), and I still am terribly drawn to cigarettes, I will probably up the nic level to see if that works better.

Hi everyone, I got a SMOK V8 Stick to helpfully drop my tabacco habit for good. I just started on 6mg juice (that’s the highest mg I can find in stores). And I’m wondering if vaping has helped any of you stop smoking. I’ve heard a lot of contradictory reports, some saying it’s a great way to quit while others say it’s not an effective method. I would love to hear your personal stories on if it helped or not. Or if you have any tips to stop smoking and stick to only vaping. Your stories, opinions, and tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

yes, vaping helps you quit smoking. I quit a 32 year 2 PAD addiction by switching to vaping when nothing else helped; not Chantix, not the patch or the gum, hypnosis, welbutrin or any other stop smoking gimick, I tried them all and all were failures... Vaping helped set me free from the addiction.

I never dual used. I quit the day I started vaping. I still went through some withdrawal symptoms at first but a higher level of nicotine helps as well does chain vaping, just keep your vape available and vape through the withdrawals..

use the same type of mental quitting smoking techniques, realize that each craving only lasts a minute or two so you just have to focus on getting through each craving... vaping makes it far easier because you just vape through each one.

it's about making it through the first week. once you do that your home free, the cravings lessen and it becomes a breeze. Soon you won't even like the smell of cigarettes.

today - 4-1/2 years after quitting smoking, I use 0 nicotine ejuice and vape sparingly. it's no longer a daily occurrence for me to vape, just a few drags here and there..

you can do this..

My friends told me I was pretty grumpy the first few days I went from cigarettes to vaping. I think it was mostly psychological. I didn't want to smoke cigarettes anymore but I missed them, a lot. They were like a reliable (and terrible) friend.

Later down the road I may work on weening from the nicotine but right now my focus is just 'No Cigarettes'.

the amount of nicotine you need depends on what device your using and your consumption level of ejuice, coupled with how much you used to smoke.

most heavy smokers (2 packs per day or so) do best on around 80-100 mg of nicotine per day when quitting. (of course, if you werent a heavy smoker you can cut that in half or less, depending on how much you smoked)

from there you have to look at what your daily consumption is, which varies with power level and atomizer you use.

for example if your consumption is 5 ml of ejuice per day, you might like to start at 20mg ejuice, and see how you do. if it's too much for you, lower your nicotine level to 12mg, if it's not enough, try 25 mg.

if your using a pod mod that's extremely low nicotine consumption, you'd like to try the nicotine salts 48mg, if that's too high you can bump it down to 35..

if your on a sub ohm device that has a higher consumption level, you'll want to start at 6mg and if that's not enough then bump it to 9mg..

so device and power levels make a difference, but it's easy enough to figure out.

Measuring the nic level while smoking or vaping is not an exact science. Generally, we choose the nic concentration of our e-liquid comparatively to how many cigarettes we smoked. Doesn't matter if they were regular or lite or ultra light.

1/2 pack per day or less = 6 mg nicotine
1 ppd = 12 mg
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
2 ppd = 24 mg

Should you choose to use a sub-ohm juice attachment (coil less than 1.0 ohm); drop the above recommendations by half.

Adjust your nic concentration depending upon the results. If you still have nic cravings, increase the nic. If you get a headache, drop the nic.
