This is really key for some people and bears repeating, particularly to those who don't see or understand why it can be so hard for some to kick the .... even after vaping. When something has consistently been the means by which you have given yourself not only pleasure but also solace and comfort, it can be extremely hard to give that up even when you have a better alternative. It's like a strange and very specific kind of Stockholm syndrome, and it can take time -- sometimes a lot of time -- for some people. They need to be ready psychologically and even emotionally to give them up, and sometimes that means having to wait until your PV becomes the thing you turn to for stress relief and solace instead of cigarettes.

As with all things, everyone takes to it differently in myriad ways.

I had just posted this in a different thread:

I started on my vaping journey on July 11 and I went through a lot of emotion when I first started vaping . Even after having the quitters flu and a sore mouth (not counting finding the right equipment for me) I was still amazed at how easy it seemed.... YET, I kept hanging onto those few cigarettes a day, then down to fewer, then on down to just a couple (I was starting to hate them), then my last week of cigarettes I would have only one a night before bed.

The reason was fear! I was afraid of failure, as I had failed so many times trying to quit and I could see the disappointment in the people I loved. So I kept it at an attitude of "This will keep me down to just one or two a day". Finally right at two months into vaping I said enough is enough, that last one of the day would send me to my bed dizzy and sick and smelling bad.

On the morning of the ninth of this month I had one cigarette left, I looked at it and made a big decision.... my e-cig had worked and I was ready to smoke the last one as a farewell. I went outside at 5:35 am to my usual spot, with a little baggie in my hand with "Freedom on 9-9-2011" written on it. I smoked it and put the .... reminder away as my badge of honor. See... I'm 52 and had been smoking 1 - 1/2 packs a day for 33 years and nothing had ever worked. I'm still amazed that I still have my badge and no craving for another stinky thing that is sealed within that badge. I am now 2 weeks, 5 days, 19 hours and 51 minutes inside of freedom!

Hang in there, rewards of pride and better health are on the way!

Very nice post. That's pretty much the same time table it took me to quit. Oh and BTW you don't look 52 ;-)

For me it worked really well. I think its the easiest way to get u off the analogs. Quit about 6 weeks ago, when i started vaping. Still have the half pack of sigs laying here, but i dont care for them at all. I tried an analog a couple of times more just because i was curious about the taste compared to vaping, but i put the out after like 3 hits.
The thing is u really have to want to quit smoking, and dont fool urself. Then it wil work for sure and with the help of vaping it cant be easier.

I started vaping a little over 2 weeks ago and haven't had an analog since. Have no desire to at all. It's better for me, the flavors are awesome (I so couldn't find a peanut butter cup or a snickerdoodle analog), I don't hack anymore, I can vape in the house (I have kids and don't smoke in the house so I used to stand out there in the cold or rain), and my clothes and hair no longer stink. I can't see any reason I would ever want an analog again. However, I love vaping and have no intention on quitting it. My problem with quitting smoking has always been simple, I LIKE to smoke....and so now....I LIKE to vape. :) It so works for me.

While driving I was a CHAIN smoker practically lighting one off the other. I've had my system for a day and a half now and I'm having no problem not smoking in the car (that was my main goal more so than quitting) but now I'm out for juice and I expect to be completely off regular old cigs by next week. (KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED)
Fingers crossed! And toes, eyes whatever it takes LOL

Heh... I had a chance today, but I think I might have scared the guy away. I was out on break vaping beside my building as I normally do (I can vape inside but it doesn't really feel like a break if I don't leave my desk for a bit of fresh air) when a guy who saw me exhale a big puff walks across the parking lot for a light for his analog. "Sorry," I said, "I don't smoke. This is an electronic cigarette."

"Ohhh," the guy says, then disappointedly walks away after apparently trying to make cursory heads or tails of this thing in my hand. It was my ProVari, and I think its size and weird appearance (I had a Fluxomizer deluxe in it containing some DIY juice that happened to be kind of pinkish) was a bit intimidating and/or confusing.

Well put Pandora, If I didnt know better I would have thought that I wrote this myself. Exactly the same scenario as me. Ive hid it from my kids for years. I think one the best part is not smelling like an ashtray IMO.
, But then again hacking every morning wasn't all that pleasent either.

Congrats for gettin off the analogs!

Another YES vote here!! The wife and I quit over 30 days ago and haven't cheated once!! Experiment with flavors till you find some you REALLY like and vaping becomes a reward for not smoking instead of a substitute. We splurged up front on equipment & supplies and have the "kids in the candystore" attitude. THIS IS WAY MORE FUN THAN CIGARETTES !
