You know, suprisingly I don't really get that. Most of the time I get inquisitions as to what I am actually inhaling, do they really explode in people's faces, do store owners allow me to do it in their stores, and most importantly do they work(for smoking cessation). I work with 13 other guys and 4 of them are chimneys. All 4 have asked me to try it and one even went out and bought himself an ego setup. He hasn't made the switch but he does use it and has probably cut down from 2+ packs per day to 1-1.5. Although it isn't a total win it is what I will take.

While I agree, I doubt posting this on ECF will get the message through to the people you want to reach out to. :)

No, the message doesn't get to those whom act rudely, by posting here. What this does accomplish? It gives ideas on how to handle these people. Sometimes having a plan helps us deal with different reactions instead of leaving us dumbfounded and speechless. I've gotten many tips on what I might say, depending on how I'm approached. ;)

This is the same thing I used to do when I was solely a smoker. I got hostile any time I saw someone buy the gum and look even a little less than miserable about it. There are two things at work here; the desire to validate her choice of smoking as the right one in her eyes, and the desire to keep you from taking her choice away from her.

Basically, a lot of smokers feel like we are judging them and trying to make them come ove to our side. They see people who could threaten what they love and cling to by making a different an possibly more acceptable choice. Humans are such creatures of habit. You could have the most ...... up, broken down, holes in the roof and floor, no doors trailer in the ....tiest part of where you live, but you will fight someone trying to take it from you, because it's become comfortable.

you should be a therapist,,,,,,,,,fabulous job calling that.

Well, ive been cig free for about a month now..you know what? I feel sorry for folks smoking. They *stink* ..they have a actual thick reek on them that I can now smell quite a distance away.

If someone wants to lecture me on vaping, well, I can lecture back on smokes: its 1000s of chemicals in cigs versus maybe 4 to 7 in your juice....depends on if you are vaping a single flavor or a mix.

VG
PG
Nicotine (or not)
Flavors

thats it

I know whats in tobacco smoke, I read a book about it 20 years ago and yet I continued to smoke; I was hooked on the nicotine and other crap in them - I didnt care as long as I got my dose of the drug.

I guess that if someone wants to complain at me about vaping, then im free to ask if they know what Polonium-210 is..Id bet they wont comprehend what it is, and how bad it is.

Its radioactive crap thats in smoke. It decays into other radioactive things, one of which is Radon.

I don't expect some holier-than-thou smoker to just have all the facts click in their heads and for them to get it. I cant make folks understand how awful tobacco is. But its seriously awful.

BT is doing itself a service by selling their e-cigs; they allow folks to try that concept out with little stigma attached - by being able to buy it where they buy their normal smokes, and typically (seems like the intended result) is that they find its a crappy experience and they go back to buying tobacco.

This way a person isnt inclined to find decent vape gear, or juices, or learn to rebuild a coil or fix a gurling tank. All of which would allow them to dump cigs in a similar fashion that I did, pretty much had 3 on the day I had my EVODs show up, and one the next day as I was going to the PO to get another shipment of juice.

Havent had one damn smoke since.

And Ive been vaping my elf ... off. :)

Just kidding! I have some ... left over.

I think it's time to realize that it is the mainstream media that is the reason we are not easily winning this fight.

Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, the gonvernment, and the ANTZ can spew lies all day long...
But without the mainstream media pushing those lies out there for public consumption, we would be winning...

The real victim is truth, and we are only one example of this.

I have had a wide range of reactions to vaping.

From one lady who banged on my closed car window to yell at me about stinking up the entire parking lot by vaping in my closed car. To being pulled over by cops twice because they had to check to make sure it wasn't an illegal substance. To strange looks. To the fake cough as they walk by. To getting a phone call from a concerned relative because the blue hair old lady gossip squad had caught site of me and by the time it reached my relative I was on my deathbed from asthma and had to use an inhaler constantly.

People are strange.

Not had the offence from smoker but often I get "I don't see how it works" to which I'll just say well haven't touched a cig in x and also explain how many chemicals difference and how much better I feel for doing so, funny thing is the other half is a smoker and the only thing that gets to her is the 33.3mhz frequency of the rattle snake :D

DC2 is exactly right. If the evening news was reporting ecigs as safer alternatives to smoking and reporting the truth, more people would be open to it. Instead they are trying to scare people by saying its anti freeze.

I was getting my truck inspected in a little town near where I live. The place is a little being the time and smoking is still allowed in public places, the three people working at the shop where I was getting my truck inspected were smoking and mentioned that the "thing" I was using was very dangerous that they were exploding and causing house fires all over the world. They also explained that I was inhaling Anti-Freeze. Each of these guys had Streamlight rechargeable flashlights on there belts.....
I explained that the batteries in my device were the same ones in their flashlights and cellphones and that there was a difference between PG, PEG and EG that I was not inhaling AntiFreeze. I also pointed out that their blatant display of ignorance furthers the stereotype of small town redneck dimwits.

You can prove the point that guns are dangerous, killing many people around the US and need to be banned. All you need for this is some ignorant sheeple.

You can prove any point you want to sheeple. All you need is some poorly done "research" and 15 minutes of air time on the TV or radio.

People are, in general, extremely resistant (and sometimes hostile) to anything that makes them feel guilty. Vegetarians and vegans can tell you all about this (and don't tell me about "preachy" vegetarians - I hear at least 5x the preaching and heckling from carnivores to veg-peeps than vice versa). It's a pretty understandable reaction - they feel guilty about not doing the "right" thing (switching from smoking to vaping), and must rationalize this in such a way that their personal narrative isn't "I'm too weak-willed/scared/addicted to switch to vaping," which of course is never true as well all know!

I think as vaping takes off and becomes more accessible (more B&M stores, etc.), people will feel less alienated by it, and more people will have tried it - and liked it! Just give it time, but there will likely always be hecklers.

I never say Ecig to a stranger or someone I know who prolly has a negative opinion of anything inhaled. I say vaporizer. And as far as people getting ....ty in general about vaping or whatever. I've come to the point in my life that I can inform whoever it may be with as many facts as they want almost about any topic in general, but all in all people are gonna hold there own judgement/opinion regaurdless of what is truthful or not. Look no further than to the low information populace/voters, and the instant gratification mongers all of us have been guilty of at some point. I'm about the truth and facts....but I also support personal choice without the gov't telling me/us what is or isn't good for me/us. Like the whole smoking ban crap in general, I don't smoke anymore but I support a business' right to allow smoker's in their establishments. We need less progressive brainwashing and less government period. I just feel like ranting constantly all the time sorry.
