On the edge of insanity..
that does indeed help, thanks.

So the cotton method should help if I'm shorting between the wick and the wire, what if I'm shorting on the wick and the tank?
For the tank, I make sure that my wick is not touching the bottom. For where is goes into the tank, I am very careful when inserting the wick through the hole, and also I roll the wick where there is a minor amount of slack.

I actually wrap my cotton on the wick where the coil will be and also down to where it will enter the tank so that cotton will shield against a tank short as well.. Works for me every time. I replace my coils in about a minute and it's stable every time.

Like mentioned before, do not dry-fire the coil with cotton. Cotton will burn if not wet. Just keep some juice on it for yer test fire, you should see nice even vapor from each coil-wrap and you know yer good.

Sup spraintz, man I took apart my DFW Ratank this morning, and the DUD. Pulled the coils, cotton rolled the wicks, slapped em back in and rebuilt the coils. My 2.0 Ohm coil went to 2.5 on the Ratank. and my 1.8 ohm on the dud went to 2.3. Same 33 G Kanthal a1, with the same wrap...HMMM! So even though it was not apparent to the naked eye, ie. hotspots, I apparently had some shorting of my coils. Surely the cotton does not provide that much resistance. As for performance, much better over 4 volts without that annoying chest hit at that level. No drop in flavor either, I have a DIY sweet tart in the DUD, and you can actually distinguise between the various flavors, it's mind blowing good. Thanks for passing along the tip, that one is a keeper. and here all this time, I was patting myself on the back for rolling such consistant coils...NOT!

I'll give the cotton method a shot when I get home. Thanks.

and w00t! another Virginian! Where about in VA?

lol - i guess i'm most southern! southside va, close to the nc border. i imagine both of you are familiar with the racetrack in sobo. i'm just 12 miles north of that

that does indeed help, thanks.

sure looks as if i'm gonna be prepared for all kinds of problems once my duds get here! then i'll find out if all that reading will save me! ;)

Just for those that don't know, these shorting issues, wicking issues, techniques and fixes are not specifically DuD related. They are they are things that are encountered with any "genesis-style" atomizer.

Point is if you ever went up to some of the more expensive atomizers then these techinques and aids are valid for those as well.

I use this same cotton method on my buddy's DiD, my G-Tank-US, bliSS, DuD and I will be using it on my AC9 when it arrives;)

Excellent point and the exact reason these cheap things have their place. I can't even begin to imagine being this frustrated with a device that cost $150.

I have high hopes for the cotton method, can't wait to get home.

Yep, I am familiar with sobo. I used to go to Buggs twice a month :)

On a side note. Just got back from TC...

I really like that I can see the level of the juice, and position of the wick in relation to the top cap now :)

Also, so happy that I can finally roll a coil now and get the ohms up there. This was a 6/7 with 32 kanthal. Whichever method you choose (cotton, rolling paper), you can't go wrong. I prefer the paper because if I am forgetful then there is nothing to burn. Although, since I now have a clear tank I will probably switch to cotton.

Edit: I must have done something different, because with 70/30 at 4.8 volts this thing is blasting out the vapor. I'm using the same juice and everything. About .3 less ohms, but also 3 less volts.

I love both the DuD and my Mini DiD. But boy oh boy, what a bloody faff it is to get them working!!! ;)

Loving the looks of that syringe clear tank - Nice work! Might try that myself.

I have heard that there will be a clear tank for the DuD in 2 weeks or so though. Will be available from Vapourhut in the UK.

The coil is the only thing that needs to be isolated from the wick.

Just to emphasize Darryll's point: shorting associated with the coil only happens with the wick. If the wick and coil are electrically isolated (oxidation layer, cotton, etc), then it won't matter if the wick is touching the tank. You only need to oxidize/isolate the wick where the coil is.

A 6/5 coil of K32 is getting me 2.5 ohms. 400 mesh rolled around a thick post like 1mm or so (?) Going to experiment a little with the air hole opening this weekend, a bit stiff but the draw isn't bad at all. Nice taste and vapor, but the vapor could use a little work, hence the air hole. Heck man, for the money involved, I will buy these things all day long. Now I just need to find the right size syringe in my area.

having no issues with shorts but here is my only complaint about these RA's. The vapor is minimal..i can get good flavor and OK throat hit but the vapor production is not all that great. somebody mentioned the size of the air hole. If it is enlarged, will this increase vapor production? i have 3 of these things so i might do some experimenting this weekend.
