I'm inclined to start going after their payment processor after my latest interaction with them.

Requiring me to upload photo ID to place an order is their prerogative, but accepting my order, debiting my bank account, and then requiring me to upload photo ID in order to receive goods they have already charged me for is not.

That’s annoying to say the least. I just ordered from them last week but haven’t received any request to verify my age. Yet.
Most likely your age verification went through without issue.
It's done through your CC info.
OP encountered a hiccup with the verification process.

I have been a customer of theirs for 5 years or so just guessing and I had to verify whom I was last week. It had been a year lapse in ordering maybe and I went thru with what they asked as it is their job to make sure uderaged persons do not have access to devices and nicotine containing liquids. I took it as it was good to see they are doing what they are suppose to do.

It is also possible (perhaps unlikely but possible) that different states are asking for age verification over and above others? IDK. I would probably verify that the email came from them, just in case it didn't. To me, it's not a huge burden to provide a copy of my DL with any unnecessary information blacked out, although that hasn't happened to me before (yet) with any vendor.

There are tons of ways to verify age, and most of them are less intrusive, so I'm a little stymied, etc., but I'm not sure an age verification process would cause me to not use a vendor. I'm of the opinion that any and all (most) information is available to more people than I care to imagine. Etc.

@go_player ... What's the status of this situation?

Just curious because I've always had great service from these guys. Eciggity, 101 Vape and Eight Vape have become my go to stateside vendors.

I might have been a bit ruder in my response to eciggity than I should have been. In retrospect I was an ......., actually. But... I used to work online payment processing and I am in charge of a small company that accepts online payments. and I wrote all of the code to connect with our payment processor.

There are fairly strict rules around all of this, but one rule is that you do not charge people for incomplete orders, including orders you have not determined that you intend to fill. This is why we generally authorize first, but bill when we ship. I know I was rude in my email to you, eciggity, ruder perhaps than I should have been, but I was doing you a favor in my own way. You just _can't_ take money from bank accounts for incomplete orders. That leads to trouble when people decide to do more than send you rude emails.

I asked them to refund the money and they did. No complaints on that level. I don't think they had bad intentions, and I knew I'd get the money back one way or another.

EDIT: That said, there are some fairly strict rules around when you actually debit a customer, and they debited my bank account when I clearly meant to cancel the transaction, but was given no option to. This would be criminal if intentional, but is not in eciggity's case because it is clearly a matter of incompetence.

This right here. Never ever upload your ID.

Uploading your credit card is not without risk. That can be immediately used to purchase all sorts of stuff before you or your bank's fraud unit even know it. IMO uploading a copy of my driver's license with only my name, address, and date of birth with all other information blacked out represents less of a risk. There's not much they can do with that info as they already have that stuff when you check out, ID uploaded or not. But you should shop online however you are comfortable.

I have only been asked once for ID (not Eciggity); emailed the company and asked them to cancel the order since I was not willing to provide ID. They said it wasn't required and the order went through without ID. It boils down to individual choice. All online vape vendors should have age verification software at this point and not need any ID imo.

I don't think it is the same thing. Yes they can run a credit card and get away with it if stolen. But you damage is limited to around $50 by law and the bank eats it. Banks don't even bother with the $50 anyway as they just eat it all.

With the driver license, there is a number on it, along with date of expiration and date of issue. This is more info than they would have and making it easier to pose as you to open lines of credit, etc.

I filed taxes electronically and the IRS used the issue date, expire date and card number on the license to verify the id and act as an electronic signature. They verify that info against the state computer system. I don't think I want all that out there.
