All the media - print and television - lately seem hell bent on promoting the idea that e-cigarettes are dangerous. Since the FDA issued it's proposed deeming regs, I see this even more. I suspect that's where the public gets its information about the dangers of vaping.
Exactly. Anything to keep the tobacco gravy train rolling. There are a lot of parasites feeding on that gravy train.
Unfortunately, I don't think the vaping industry or CASAA has the money to run an ad campaign documenting the real facts related to e-cigarettes or publicizing the scientific data which backs up the beneficial health impact of vaping vs. cigarette smoking. So I have no idea how the truth about vaping will ever become public knowledge.
This is where vapers come in.
We can support CASAA. Whatever we wish to give.
And - in our immediate lives - we all have friends, family, colleagues. When somebody asks, give a short explanation. When somebody gives you a stupid comment, parroting the lies in the media, reply. The "tax coffers" reply was coined by a vaping colleague of mine. It always works. And if the person who made the comment is intelligent, then follow up with a few short sentences.
Like:
1. The smoke of a tobacco cigarette contains approx. 2000 substances, approx. 40 of which are said to cause cancer.
2. The vapor of this little device contains exactly five substances (hold up your hand, it has five fingers
- smile -
All that is in this here is (count on fingers) propylene glycol - found in toothpaste and medical inhalers, vegetable glycerin - already grandma used it on her hands - , destilled water, food flavoring and nicotine, if you want it. I want it.
- smile -
I have not smoked for two years (or your number) now. I only use this. (hold up device). And I can breathe again. It is lovely.
- smile -
..
I had such a conversation with an intelligent but uninformed person the other day. Who said exactly the same "those are worse than smoking". It took about 2 minutes for him to understand precisely what I was saying. And to agree. Like I said, the person was intelligent and not usually one for parrotting propaganda. He just did not know better. He does now
Intelligent people: educate
Stupid people: do the tax coffers reply. Grin. Maybe add that the government would love to collect all these cigarette taxes. And we all know that the government controls the media. (everybody hates Big Government and taxes). Walk away.
/edit:
This happened at a friend's house.
I am pleased to "report" that - at the same house - two smokers (husband and wife) were very interested in my PV. I gave them Anja's short explanation the first time - and fixed the husband one to use, he loved it.
Well, when I visited again, I was "ordered" to bring my vaping gear, as these two guests were coming again, and they wanted more detailed info. Well, they got that info -and one each PV to use during the visit. This time the wife tried it too and liked it.
- They ordered some nice equipment now and started vaping last Sunday.

And although I didn't think to ask him where he had heard this (I was too busy trying to counter and correct him), I thought to myself later, who is going around saying such things? What intelligent, educated, anti-nicotine zealot would dare say something like this? And if this one man is going about believing this sort of thing, might there be others who were similarly mis-informed?
