You're speaking of the 50W, yes?
Yeah, sorry bout that. I see the 30w was being discussed. I bought a 30 early and it shot out 3 mos later. evape.us replaced it . I don't know about a code on it or not. They used to not require it or a receipt until so many failed. (50s, I mean)

I checked and I do have an authentic silver 30w without a code.
The bottom one is an unopened black replacement from evape.us

Two of the latest 50w fails. Same family ....last 2 days..
oops! Time to add my story. I have an istick 50 about 2 months old. My wife as 2 - 1 a month & 2 days old, the other 1 1/2 months old.

Well her newest one from VaporTek started auto-firing. The day before she said it had turned itself off. Hmmm did it auto-fire and heat up? Don't know. She was napping and woke to the sound of something sizzling - yep it was her istick. So we 'watched' it for the next hour and yep intermittently it would just fire-up for a few seconds then turn itself off.

Filed a 'case' with VaporTek. An hour later they responded to just send it back for a replacement.

Like a lot of you have said - we really like the size and batt life. Such a shame so many are misbehaving.

I'm waiting on an Evic VT. If it's not too much bigger/heavier for my wife. May get one for her too.
Next day (yesterday)
uh oh - I think wife's cause auto-firing. Yesterday I posted that my wife's 50 began the auto-fire syndrome. So we set that one aside, and I gave her mine to use. This morning mine is auto-firing. Yikes! That's 2 out of 3 that have flaked out.

My understanding is a far majority of the 50W's problems are caused by e-liquid leaking past the 510 onto the PCB. Is this correct?
No singular cause has been determined. I personally think the majority of problems are caused by improper cleaning and assembly. It appears that a piece of the 510 thread was causing one of mine to shut off and VV/VW switch. Probably left during the threading process. My 50w BLS mod had absolutely no leaking passed the 510 pin. Final determination was a faulty chip. There are probably several assembly errors leading to problems according to what I've seen. I have seen a few reports of juice leaks but few.

The ones we got from our January co-op all had serial numbers and they were from the first batch.

My "First batch" wording was likely unwise. The launch of the istick was Aug 2014 and we started getting them around Sept. The serial number checking system was started on Dec 22, 2014. So the 'first products' received here had serial numbers but there was no 'checking system' at that time. There were rumors of rebranding and actual clones (Smart 20) started showing up in November.

I'm looking to get a second unit and was looking at the iStick 50........... Now I gotta look for something else LOL
I think they are becoming much more reliable. I think for marketing purposes, they may want to acknowledge the problems and announce improvements/modifications if any. letting people know the causes could save a lot of grief also if simple fixes can be done.

I have the MVP3 now and was looking to up the wattage LOL. Does the eVic come in a higher wattage?

The eVic-VT is a 60W device, 5000mAh Li-Po battery, and adds the option of temperature limiting in both nickel and titanium varieties.
