stuck in a squishy pod called my brain
Pico is my favorite form factor and the only mod I care to use most of the time. It's a major bummer that the USB port is weak. I try to be very careful disconnecting a cable. I haven't read all the posts on the issue but is there a modification that might make it stronger than stock, say a preventative step? I wonder if they addressed the issue in the 26650 version.

P.S. New flash, just discovered this on FT $9.92 iStick Pico 75W Styled TC VW APV Box Mod Control Module - 1-75W / 200-600'F(100-315'C) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping If it's the real deal might be an economical way to keep Pico's going longer after the vapocalyse. If it uses the identical USB connection may be it's a way to study the problem without dismantling a working pico. I'm sure I'll have at least one of these. If you paid someone at an electronics repair place to install one the total would be more than a new pico but the scenario is picos are no longer available in the US because of our dear dear government who so wisely and magnanimously protects us from our humble peasant little selves.
nice find! (and a decent pic of what I need to repair mine--I should repair mine just to 'teach me to be more careful!)

I am not sure I want to label the usb port as weak just yet. Reason being is that I was using a 'known tight fit' cable in my car. That cable may have been too tight and just grabbed and wouldn't let go. - I had already had problems with it hanging onto my cellphone. I have since replaced that cable, my cellphone is happier and another mod I use is also happy.
My incident pulling the usb guide out of the mod was because of a 'tight' cable, since thrown away but it's still a vulnerability. I like the pico enough compared to all other mods I'm willing to work around it. The other consideration is stockpiling where durability becomes a large issue. It probably means I have to store more mods than planned just in case. Regardless the Pico is going to be around until there is a fundamental change in battery form factor.

I didn't know you pulled a usb too....hhmmm. well I really like the Pico too so I will also 'work around'. I currently have 4,, I had considered buying 20. but re-thought that.--I have 8 reg-mods +2 mechs. I am trying to stay regulated as much as possible. my pico's are my fav, so I have motivation to learn their repairs.

How has the "colored" Pico's been holding up? Do they seem to chip and peel easily?

I've had the grey pico for about 2.5 months and the grey part still looks good as new. There are a few scuffs and scratches on the exposed metal, but none on the colored part and no peeling or chipping either.

How it will last longer term I don't know, but I don't expect it to become much of an issue, maybe after a long while or a drop. I'm not sure if the finish is the same as the old isticks, but the 30w I have had for over a year has one scratch and it never peeled any more after the initial scratch.

Good to hear. I usually just go with silver on a mod, but I'm liking the grey.

I have been using 1 of 4 full time (2 greys & 2 polished silvers),, I am not 'gentle' on it,, but I also don't tend to drop it either. my kanger's had plenty of paint chipping/scratching........pico looks good as day 1 to me. it rattles around my cup holder,, goes in and out of my pockets,, a beach bag.. the whole thing looks fine. --this is the dark grey one. I love that grey.. it looks so classy. (reminds me of a pinstriped suit lol)

Whoa... either take a step back, or have a calming vape and relax (I suggest the latter). ;)

There are six ways from Sunday that statement is wrong.
Both now and in two years (whichever you actually meant).

According to the FDA the product will need to be approved by them or withdrawn from the US market.

Yes... and I've bolded the relevant part.

The Pico is available domestically NOW (post 8/8/16) and it'll be available tomorrow.
If JTech continues to make them... it'll be available right up to 8/8/18.
If they have filed the FDA paperwork by that time... they'll continue to be available beyond then.

There's also the possibility they'll always be available through Int'l vendors, legally.
Which would be nice as we're about to see new product that cannot be sold domestically.

I'm not trying to be mean, but Vapocalypse FUD is rampant, and it annoys me.

Maybe, I read someplace (and unfortunately I can't remember exactly where) that the FDA has stated that they could remove products from the market if the manufacturer has not made "serious" efforts in getting their products approved. Hopefully this is not correct information. If anyone knows for sure, please chime in.

Yes, you both have just doubled down on the FUD.

"I don't know, but I heard..." doesn't cut it.

This is why people have a 30 year supply of nic (and are shopping for little freezers)... and I could pick up the phone and order some right now.
30 years!! I only bought enough nic to last 3 at 18mg. But I forsee myself quitting ecigs within 3 years anyway. I did it once so I know I can do it again.

There's a "prepper" elsewhere who's decanting at least 12 liters.
And I think it's just her and her husband who vape.

I'm not looking to quit... but I did get carried away a little buying nic.
Hit up vendors for three different makes and ended up with at least six years worth.
Fortunately about half is the really good stuff... in case any of the rest sucks.

:p

I'm an American who's ordered Habanos... I'm not sure what we wont be able to buy. :D
