Try your hand at it. You will scrap 2 or 3, and then you will quickly become a pro......
Just wrap some wire around a 16 gauge needle, a small drill bit, or some other smooth stick. Heck even a ballpoint pen refill will work.

Brandon says that the #1 is easier to work with--have you used it?

Does it need to be torched first? No microcoils? How many wraps????

I have used lots of the Kanthal, and yes I torch mine before I wrap, and again after if I am squeezing it into a microcoil.

But all of that will come with time. First get the wire and just do a few basic coils to get the feel for it. Once yu can knock out a basic coil watch a video on microcoils.

Now the NI200 I dont torch first, it is a much softer wire. I do torch it after though if I am doing a microcoil with it.

Really though, there is no "right" or "wrong" way, you do whatever you find works for YOU.

So the coil is NR? Ok... a shop sold me nickel wire as resistance wire..it was my birthday weekend, but thank po6 I had a multimeter..and wondered why it was a little shinier..

It's like 28awg NR wire is like working with 32awg kanthal...on the feel/tension-springiness of it - only way I can explain it.

Just to add..... I can count the number of coils I've built on 2 hands (and a few fingers left over)....used 28,30,32g during the beta test but I'm just waiting for the premade Aspires, etc. to come about... I like it simple and fiddle free... he-he...

With temperature regulation one thing you find is the build is more forgiving. It can be pretty messy and still work just fine because it does not rely on the thermal transfer between coils to heat up quickly, and it is monitoring its own temperature. I tried vaping a straight piece of wire and it worked ...

Also because it is soft, you can for example wrap freehand directly over silica wick without a mandrel. this made rebuilding a kanger head easier.

Yep....vaping technology just keeps on improving and changing....always something new just around the corner......heck I've got an obsolete Darwin that's somewhere around 3 years old (or so) and I still use it weekly so, to me, obsolete doesn't necessarily mean useless.....

Now that I finally had it all figured out--the kanthal, the microcoil, the resistance, the Ohm's Law, the torching...

I didn't say it worked WELL lol ... but it did work. typically if i did that with a normal setup it would result in a dry hit.
