when i just swapped out my flavor, i didnt even dry burn it, and like you said it was like a couple of pulls. its almost instantaniously. also if you guys were reading the posts earlier and seen myself and dsmooch commenting on why rips wick was longer then the ones we are getting, which if you dont own an ac-9 it doesnt matter, but both of us do, and the 1-1/2 in wicks are kind of to short for the ac-9, but anyways, i emaid rip today on this, he said he had gotten his from the maker when things just got started. and in the end they decided to shorten them up for stability reasons. well anyways i had asked him about the longevity of these wicks. he said they would never clog up, and with regular maintenace last for months. maybe take out monthly, wash and torch, then good to go. so we will see.

Well, second day in and a minor disaster. I was driving home puffing away and if anything over the second day there was no improvement and it seemed to be getting worse and worse. When I got home I popped the cap and fiddled with wires a little to find that my wick was now in two pieces. No wonder! My suspicion is that I must have been a little rough with it at some point and caused a fracture which destroyed the wick. So second wick is now in place and is much more promising. Very weak vapor at first but now after about 30 mins it is really coming alive. What is concerning me is that perhaps because the 1/8 wicks are a snug fit in the ZAP the contraction of the metal around the wick heating and cooling could conceivably apply enough pressure to crack the wick because of the expansion/contraction coefficient differences. May be something to keep in mind. 3mm may be more suitable for a ZAP. This wick is much more promising so far and I will see what tomorrow brings. Just wish they weren't as delicate as butterfly wings.

I had mine in an aga-t and chi chi when I knocked mine onto the table while typing or napping. There was a puddle of juice that looked like blood when I finally realized what I had done. Checked to see my damage and all was safe, except for the juice.

I think you should buy a lottery ticket - very lucky. I also ruined another wick nibbling off the top to resize it. Got a little greedy and grabbed a bit too much material. The mere shockwave from the pliers going through the material snapped the wick about half way down. They are VERY fragile so extreme caution is advised. This can get expensive real quick.

gotta be extra careful with the ZAP... that top cap is able to take a 45° angle on its way out if not careful...
I haven't set up my ZAU yet but I think I'll give the wick a bit of sandpaper trim before I slide it in... If its too snug, I'm afraid any movement/pressure on the side might be fatal...

OK, now I get what the fuss is all about. I am sold on this ceramic wick. After a tank this thing is blowing me away! I have changed flavors and as stated the change is instant and flavor is fantastic. The vapor is now matching any stainless wick I have made and it is keeping up with chain vaping no problem. Only have experience with this in the Zap but the positives and negatives as I see them are as follows for ceramic wicks:

Positives:
Excellent vapor quality
Excellent vapor quantity
Excellent flavor
Set up in seconds
Instant flavor changes
Immunity to damage from heat or shorts

Negatives
Stock availability
Range of sizes (lengths and diameters)
Cost
Fragility

Unknown
Longevity

I am so amazed by this wick that for me, the positives far outweigh the negatives. I believe this technology is the future for rbas.

Did I mention that I am impressed?

.... so now rip trippers new video makes sense to me in the fact that he is saying, that with a few strands of unbleached, food grade cheesecloth, wrapped around the wick(just where the coils are) will help the break in period to almost zero. .....

Could you post a link to his 'new video'. I went to his youtube channel but only found the ceramic wick review he posted last month. Thanks.

If you're talking about the afpv coop then what was said was that the 3/32nd wicks were too fragile at the original length at 1.75", so they had to be reduced to 1.5". Their 1/8" wicks will still be 1.75".

My 'bad'. I guess it was wishful thinking and a fuzzy old brain that made me think the original size could be used for 2 wicks per piece. Thanks for setting the record straight.

I'm on day 2 and just swapped out flavors....I am telling you, I am soooo tempted to take this wick out and sand it down just a wee bit to allow for better wicking.....but I am not going to do it just yet. After reading the above posts.......after today, I just may do it and go through another coil wrap (quite the process because these things are so fragile). It does wick just not as much as I would like, do these act as a sponge or is it just a path for the juice to flow on?

It acts as a path for the juice to flow otherwise it would saturate itself in the upright position like stainless does.

I finally found the video with that white ceramic wick from Germany.
In my humble opinion the porosity within this <white ceramic wick> must be different as in this video he demonstrates it in the <upright position> multiple coil firings during the video and no coils glowing indicating its getting fed e-liquid in a similar fashion as stainless mesh.

The grey FC2000 that i properly had going with no hotspots could not do that in the upright position.
There is something different about that German White Ceramic wick and its my hope that they eventually get marketed as i would want to sample one.

Please look at post 1743 and click the video to see .

In following post # 1744 in video he demostrate how he cleans it back nice and new looking .

i actually believe that the ceramic does in fact wick as good as ss mesh. if you were to do a test with a piece of cotton on top and drop wick into a solution, from what i have heard it would in fact wick just as fast as mesh. the issue i am told is that ceramic heats up hotter and holds this heat for a long time, thus actually drying out the wick. who knows though for i havent actually tried this expierment
