Vap, the only reason it fell apart is because of the heat decomposition - minimum temp 898 degrees. It is hard like stone until it reaches those temps.

so what temps do you think it will reach on a coil? like 500? i will still try to make one just to see if its possible to make one that small, and then see what will happen once one is coiled. but it might be hard to get it round, it seems very flakey.

RIP coral. :(

How 'bout some of that space shuttle tile stuff?

Beside from being fragile and having questionable composition (from China),
what is there to improve on the FC-2000 stuff? My AGA-T+ with a 9/64 hole
and 1/8" FC wick is vaping GREAT.
6 coils of EHW 29ga.@1.6Ω on top of a VAMO at 9.5W-RMS.

p.s.--

This rig does VERY well on FS wick too!

Yes that would be the high end. Most references I have seen say around 400C. So well within safety limits for CACO3 which is almost 900C. Definitely worth a go. At the very least you will know exactly what the material is that you are using. Can be boiled and reused indefinitely as well.

maybe i should try the brain coral type? the one i just tryed is very scaley and dont think it would sand round very well. but the brain coral types seem to be more solid. maybe give both a shot.

i hear you, i often hear people saying that by doing this, it should produce more vapor, TBH i dont think i could handle much more vapor then what my devices are producing right now. but it would be cool to produce your own wicks. or just be the one that comes up with something that is better.

I found this temp chart:

Faint Red 950-1050º F
Dark Red 1150-1250º F
Dark Cherry 1175-1275º F
Cherry Red 1300-1400º F
Bright Cherry 1475-1575º F
Dark Orange 1650-1750º F
Orange 1750-1850º F
Yellow 1800-1900º F
Yellow/white Over 2000º F

The bright cherry range is within limits but an orange or yellow glowing coil is too hot. So I guess long dry coil burns are out as well. Maybe not worth it seeing this chart. Leave it to you guys to decide if you want to try it armed with this info.

Coral was just an experiment...it might have potential, but the low temp threshold and the left over proteins make it problematic.

Hmm...what would I change? I would like better capillary wicking. If you keep the ceramic wet, it works great. But if you do a side by side with a SS mesh in a vertical position, it does not keep up. I can get SS to produce vapor continuously till the battery dies out or the tank runs out of juice. But with FC2000, it will deplete and dry out much more quickly. Not really a huge issue, because most people dont vape in a vertical position or pulse their coils for more than 15 seconds in a vape.

If I had a material composition/impurities analysis and an MSDS, I would be be very satisfied.

I suspect the same places that sell fish sticks will also sell corals for aquariums? What is this cosmic connection between wick materials and fish shops?
fish are always sucking on liquid.. all day.. just like y'all :)

So back to work today after Easter and a chance to use a good workshop
So I took in the "Cobra Clone" (nothing like the Cobra) or as DiscountVapors calls it the Stainless Top Griffin rebuildable and decided to bore out the wick hole to something useful like 1/8th

Yeah wishful thinking that 1/8th could be bored out from something that was 2.3mm (0.09 inches 3/32)

Well I just made it, yeah I cant believe it either... so here are the pictures, yes it took out just the edge above the rubber seal inside the tank but it clears the rubber by half a mm, the wick will be scraping down the side of the center post for sure
