Doesnt it then melt again as the temperature increases?
yes, but from what i read, it doesnt get that hot. anyway, scratch that, i found that my scriber is 3/32. the head is removable and has the vice like tip on it, it screws off, and you remove the tip. perfect for 3/32 sized ceramic wicks to hold in place for heat coiling.

Moody Tools 51-1520 Reversible Carbide Point "Shirt Pocket" Scriber With Clip: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

dont bother with that one for 1/8th though, but they may have 1/8th scribers like that. i own that one,

ok after much debate , i tore down my inital ceramic set up and did hte whole red hot wick set up ..... wow what a diffence . i thought my old set up of 32 wire , 1.6 ohms on the zmax was good but the new one 32 wire , 1.5 ohms is so tight on the wick that i cant move it :)
i might try a new one tommorow and see how close i can get the coils , just to try a coil around 2.0 ohms and see how the flavor is

Elias, does it make a difference if the wick is red hot? I would think that you could get a tighter result if you tried to heat the wire without heating the wick so that there is minimal expansion of the wick due to heat. A hot wire on a cold wick (colder the better) so to speak. Just thinking of the way they sleeve engines by cooling the sleeve and then drop it in the block and as it warms up it is cold welded to the block. I may be way off but just a thought.

PS: Did you snag yourself a Chi_You today?

Guys' my thought behind doing it that way is because I think that the wire cools too quick if it touches the larger surface that is not glowing red like the wire, I just want it to cool slowly so that the pressure I use really gets that wire into each little bump and crevasse without it cooling until I move the flame away.

I dont know if it really makes a difference but I look at it in extreme ways, I imagine enlarging it to super size and think to myself that the under side of the wire would cool instantly as it touches the cooler surface of the wick therefore making that section harder and unable to mold into the grooves, when I actually unwind the coil "when its cooled down" it's like its glued into position as it sticks to my wick and I have to use a fair amount of pressure to release it, I think that unwinding should be done with heat too.... Am I being over critical? probably, but you know what.... it works well for me and I can vape after a couple of test fires.

Look at the 24 second mark you will see what I mean about it sticking into the wick

A Chi_You ? umm OK I am totally lost with that one....

I totally understand and it makes perfect sense with sleeving, but I can move the coil when it is hot when I do it that way, but when I heat up both and wrap it the coil can not be moved at all when it is hot, is it because it is molding into the surface of the wick or some other reason but it works better IMHO.

Chi_You is a high-end mechanical mod that is very hard to get. A lot of people have been waiting for the list to open. It is open now on the Vaporwall forum. It is an all brass model, very nice. You should check it out. Not cheap at $225 but it is up with the Caravela in terms of quality which is considered by many to be the best there is.

oh man they look so nice... but I cant justify spending that sort of money, so I am unfortunately stuck with my smoktech natural, I like the look of the caravela's but again too expensive for me... maybe one day...

My life at this stage is rather tough... still managing but it's challenging...

Totally understand mate. Walked that road many times in my life. Lost a house in a divorce settlement once and had bugger all. Now I have a couple of houses. It is a roller coaster but it all works out in the end . . .

Want to get married? Find someone you hate and give them a house . . . same thing

Sorry about the quote but I think I have earned the right to become bitter and twisted.

Oh yeah... that aint an easy road to go down.... should have become a lawyer.... but alas I preferred engineering...

I like when they say "Your never going to find someone like me again" I reply with "I can only hope and may your statement come true"

Hi Elias, just wanted to say that I have been watching your exploits with the ceramic wick, and really want say you have breathed new like into a floundering puppy of a concept with your hot wrap method.
I have been sent a few blanks (petsmart airstone) form the gentleman that is gdeal, and although I have only one short wick that remains unbroken, I did try your method, and it is helping me to appreciate the ceramic in a hole new level, riptripper's cotton wrap method seemed a little ridiculous, and I was losing faith that the ceramic would really amount to anything, but it seems you have the answer.
I have been badgering a few Aussie vendors to stock the FC2000 or similar, and they are keen, although they did mention their MOQ was 2KGs worth LOL.

doesnt look that brittle!! your pulling pretty hard

hey deadperfect. about your 3/32 wick, are you planning on wrapping with 28g or 30g? if using the 30g you might have to be more careful in this ehw wrap, i do believe that the video is all in 28g so not sure how the 30g will heat. also in elias video this is a 1/8 wick, so just want to inform you that the 1/8 wicks are much more sturdy.
