FDA considering ban on flavored e-cigarettes
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering a ban on flavored e-cigarettes in response to an “epidemic” of young people using e-cigarettes, the agency’s leader said on Wednesday. In a speech at FDA headquarters, Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said the agency would also revisit its compliance policy that extended the dates for manufacturers of flavored e-cigarettes to submit applications for premarket authorization. “We see clear signs that youth use of electronic cigarettes has reached an epidemic proportion,” Gottlieb said. Gottlieb announced a number of steps the agency planned to take as part of a broader crackdown on the sale and marketing of e-cigarettes to kids. The agency issued 12 warning letters to companies that it says have deceptive marketing labels on e-liquids. “We cannot allow a whole new generation to become addicted to nicotine,” he said.

To anyone who thought Republicans would be any better for vaping than Democrats; You've been had.

Tobacco stocks rally as FDA considers banning all flavored e-cigarettes
tobacco company shares rose in active Wednesday morning trade after the Food and Drug Administration chief said that the agency might ban all flavored e-cigarettes due to their popularity among teenagers, which he said had reached "an epidemic proportion." British American Tobacco BATS, +5.87% shares rose 6.3% in extremely heavy Wednesday trade, Altria Group Inc. MO, +6.35% shares rose 7% in extremely active trade and Philip Morris International Inc. PM, +3.64%stock rose nearly 5% in heavy trade. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said earlier this year that though many smokers may use e-cigarettes to smooth the quitting process, he was concerned about young people using the products, particularly the popular brand Juul, which sells such flavors as "crème brulée" and "cool cucumber."

Looks like I might have to finally switch to DIY juice making.

I wonder how many million dollars that relatively small stock bump was worth? I am astounded people thought the GOP would be more lenient on ecigs. Historically the GOP has always been firmly in the camp of old money, and the tobacco companies are some of the oldest money in the country. Rhetoric is rhetoric. Watch what the pollitical partie’s DO, not what they say.

The Establishment is the Establishment - mostly Dems and some Republicans. Were it not for certain interventions since the election, the ballgame would have already been over at Final Rule - June 2016.

Hard to believe anyone who has been around since at least 2015 hasn't gone DIY. But, as the saying goes, ...to each according to his needs. :)

I knew this one would get political. I guess the difference between one party an another these days is the assessment of which party constitutes the majority of the corrupt establishment.

Have to agree here.

I've dabbled in it but it's just super easy (I'm lazy) and still cheaper than analogs to go with local brick & mortar.

DIY is super easy now, the flavors already to just add to your base. Vaping DIY Samoa Cookie now :)

As for the ban on flavors especially pods, why doesn't Juul & all pods make flavored zero nic and make nic level lower and make nic zero flavor. That would solve the problem for teens. Then the flavors wouldn't be attacked.

TLDR;
Cigarettes are limited to Tobacco and Menthol (in some places) flavor. To keep the cigarette companies and their stakeholders (GOV'T) happy, 95% less dangerous E-cigarettes MUST be restricted to the EXACT same extent as proven deadly combustion cigarettes.

Next: Bottle size limits and nicotine strength limits.

It's gonna be only BT/BP after 2022.

Cheers

You made it political as soon as you wrote "GOP". But here, it's always the responder who is considered "political", (a technique which is also political as it tends to "mask" the originator). I almost never originate it, but do respond to it.

The very least you can do is get some nicotine - suggest "Nude Nicotine"

https://www.nudenicotine.com/products-page/

...and put it in a freezer. Flavors will always be available in one form. And you can do the DIY later, when it becomes necessary.

Oh, there's no doubt the OP is political and I take full credit for it. I can still see all the beaming posts about how good Trump and the GOP were going to be for vaping. All the while disregarding the fact the the GOP has been in the pocket of BT for decades.

It would not solve the problem at all. Teens are hardwired to experiment period.

Thinking comment was aimed at topic overall not this thread. And the statement is accurate, it always gets political when deep pockets are picked.

Um.. you did read the OP, yes? I believe the word “republican” featured prominently. It started political. Your “response only” is a bit ironic considering your avatar is the cover of an Anne rand novel, but it doesn’t matter really. Regardless the anti-vaping stance appears to be non partisan so the whole thing is moot. All oxen have been suitably gored.

Like Doing DIY?

And then Selling it to their Friends?
This exactly. And it's why the FDA banning flavors is so dumb.
At least now, the e-cig shops SCREEN THE FLAVORINGS at least to a reasonable degree. We don't know everything yet.

But once the flavors aren't available, they'll DIY with almost anything...even stuff with oils in it.

The "good news" ;) is that for current vapers that don't know how to DIY, I suppose if you don't want to do research you can just ask a teen.... If they don't know already, they'll be up to speed in 10 seconds as soon as the FDA bans flavors.

The FDA knows this.
And Both Sides of the Political Aisle knows this.
And the Alphabet "Heath" Groups knows this.
And about Anyone who has even Cursorily followed e-Cigarettes knows this.

So some would Question just what the Motivation is to Push for things (or to quietly Threaten to withhold funding votes) like a Draconian Flavor Ban?

Given the Historical Success Rates of Eliminating Teen Smoking/Drinking crusades.
