That's because there's more addiction potential in cigarettes than e-liquid. Believe it or not, nicotine all by itself isn't actually that hard to wean yourself off of, or at least drastically cut down on. It's one of BT's dirty little secrets: Most cigarettes contain MAOIs -- antidepressants -- that enhance the pleasure derived from cigarettes. That enhanced pleasure makes your brain crave cigarettes even more when coupled with the addictive properties of nicotine itself. e-liquid doesn't have any MAOIs, just the nicotine, so lacking that addiction enhancer you're just left with the straight addictive properties of nicotine, which are much easier to deal with alone.

I was just reading somewhere else on the forum that an ejuice maker is expirimenting with MAOI addition to their juices...I'm thinking that I'll likely skip that. Sorry don't have the link. Came across it in a forum search.

I usually get a lot of questions from smokers about the PV I use. Most think it's nerdy, but a lot seem to like the potential.

The thing I'm worried (and not necessarily worried, but casually concerned) is the best way to approach bringing the ProVari on the airplane with me when I fly to LA next month.

Tell them you're with the LA crime lab, and that's your portable smoker for raising fingerprint latents. :D

Yeah, I remember reading a thread on that a while back. At issue here is that some people are actually sensitive to the MAOIs in cigarettes, and their absence is making the complete transition to vaping that much more difficult. Thus, it was noted that someone, somewhere was trying to figure out if it would be possible to add MAOIs to make specialized liquids aimed at those with a sensitivity to make the transition easier.

Next thing you know, they'll be adding vitamins and minerals and proclaiming them to be even healthier :) Extenz male enhancing e-juice? The "little blue e-juice" to help with ED in former smokers. Ugh.

I wouldn't personally buy anything with an MAOI added in -- I get enough from my tap water.

Put some pep in your step and a tent in your pants with Enzyte E-juice!

Seriously though, that's already being done to some extent. (Not the ED drugs!) Vaporrenew.com offers both caffeine and vitamin boost additives as options for their juices.

Oh yea, I know why they're doing it. I just don't really miss the MAOIs, so for me taking that step would be taking a step backward. I just hope we don't get to the point that vaping is equally as bad and addictive as analogs. Then there really wouldn't be a point other than flavors, cost savings, cooler devices...OK...so there would still be a point.

Security was totally cool about my PVs at the Vegas and DFW airports. I had a GLV2 5v, GLV Mini, Silver Bullet and Omega in my bag with the batteries removed in battery boxes. The GLV Supermini and KGO went through Xray with my keys, phone etc ready to vape. No questions about the mods in my bag. The security guy asked me about the GLV Supermini. I told him what it was. He asked if it if it really worked for 'serious smokers'. I took a vape and let him hold it. He said he had to get one. He raised his shirt sleeve to show me his nic patch. He smelled like cigs so he was wearing the patch and smoking. Come to find out, he'd bought a 7-11 ecig and it didn't hit well and tasted nasty. I texted him the GLV site, a Kgo supplier and the ECF website. The whole thing took less than 2 minutes. In Dallas I didn't get any questions.

You don't believe but I vaped in hospital.
Oh, i believe you. A friend at work had a car accident. She was fiending for a cig in the hospital. The doc prescribed a nic patch and her arm got red bumps all around the patch and swelling. He wrote in her chart that it was ok for her to use an ecig in her room. She's been tobacco-free since her hospital stay, vaping happily.

Harrumph! I look totally cool with a regular cig and even MORE cool with an e-cig that has been color coordinated. About my only disappointment with e-cigs is I can't safely make the vapor different colors (yet). LOL

I think I'll infuse my next DIY mix with some pheromones that make it smell like I'm ovulating so guys subconsciously lose their minds. (Only kidding!!!)

There's always a point to vaping, not the least of which is that it's awesome. :D But yeah, I'm not sensitive to the MAOIs either -- heck, I didn't even know about the MAOIs at the time I switched and didn't notice a thing. But for those few who are it may be just the thing they need to make the permanent switch instead of supplementing with analogs. Then they just have to wean themselves off the MAOIs. I don't know how hard that is for those sensitive to them but to my way of thinking, while I doubt they're particularly bad for you, they do enhance the addiction to nicotine, so it's probably a good idea to minimize that.

You don't believe but I vaped in hospital.

That's not as uncommon as you might think. Propylene glycol is a humectant, and as such has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, so it is pumped through the H/VAC system in many hospitals, so hospitals may not mind to much if you vape there.

Heh, it's kind of weird because when I said I was buying a 'vaping kit' to friends, they didn't have a clue until I said 'electronic cigarette' (well, I do live in rural Wales). Only got it today, so ain't been out in public with it yet, but I just know that I'm going to be surrounded by curiosity when I go down the pub - might have to print some informative leaflets out from the FAQ on this site :p
