Mine should be here any day but have some questions about mesh and wire.

Where is the best place to get supplies? I see Stormy's has both...

Do I want 400 SS mesh or 325 or something different? What would be difference between the two?

Wire? Kanthal vs. Nichrome wire? differences? - 32 gauge vs. 36(referring to Kanthal options)?

Guess I need a quick tutorial.....

Once I get my atty in the next round of questions will start................

Got a couple in the mail today from Hoosier ecig (I've ordered many times from Hoosier, highly recommend). I cut slots in the bottom like a #, four crossed slots for airflow on my Provari. Drilled out one of the air holes at the base to 1/16th, drilled out the wick holes to 3/32, wrapped a 5/6 coil on 3mm Ody wick from CoV. Dry burned at 3.2v, filled with 50/50 DIY Banana Nut Bread. Wowza! Nice warm vape, very tasty. I had intended to go mesh/genny, but I think I'll wait a tank or three.

After a failed attempt at u shaped mesh wick i went to slide off tube and the part with wick/coil assembly and center tube separated from the bottom part. This is my second one and it was extra tight coming apart from the beginning. appears to be the o-ring is either to fat or groove on disc where it goes is to shallow, I have not compared the o-ring on the 2nd one to the 1st one as yet but I think the O-ring is the culprit. When assembled you could feel tube bulging out in that area by running your fiThis operationnger over it. I made a tool out of cap for a felt marker pen to push it out from now on. Tube seems to be a press fit in base, rubber grommets are the same as most devices, had to replace wire from 510 positive to wick positive. I would defiantly say it is rebuilt(with cotton)

Here's mine with cotton wicks ( had to enlarge wick holes) So so good, I re-wrapped stock 2 ohm coil on cotton. Stainless to come later when my other one arrives.View attachment 123383

What size holes did you drill? I'm having trouble getting a 65/35 juice to wick with silica even after enlarging the holes. I have some cotton and mesh on the way so I'm hoping for better luck with those. On the Nova I had to use short wicks for it to work but obviously can't do that here.

I got mine from hoosier as well along with the replacement coils. I've had zero luck with those. Only drilled the holes out to 3/32 so far - even bored out little further cause the wick still fit kinda snug. Out of the box nothing but dry hits after the juice I primed it with was gone. Tried a 3.0 ohm replacement coil and still wasn't wicking good. Tried wrapping 5/6 or 6/7 (not sure but it metered 2.7) with my own kanthal 32 ga with one of the silica wicks and blahhh...Tried wrapping the coils close together, spaced out evenly, tighter wrap, looser wrap, more coils, less coils, extra long wick, shorter wick and still the same results! Was using 65/35 NLV juice at no higher than 3.8, but just to be sure I replaced it with DK-TAB 100% PG - btw is a juice I can't stand - and while it did wick better briefly I'm still not getting much vapor and the dry hits start after 3-4 hits running 2.3 ohms at 3.5-3.8v.

Unless I'm completely missing something here (and with others having a bad OOB experience) the problem seems to be the wick. Possibly the coil too, but I'm not sure cause I don't have any other wick till the cotton and mesh arrive.

I used a Dremel to enlarge and angle them so as the wick goes across and down there are no right angles. I can not really say the size but I took out as much asI could without getting into threaded holes or O-ring groove. My holes are bigger on the top, probably 1/8 in on underside

My earlier post states than I am using original coil (2ohm) but I have recieved my NR wire and have made quite a few variation including silica, settled with 3 ohm-3 cotton strands and a 4 ohm- 2 cotton stands ( for v1 vmax@ 6v). I am quite satisfied with just 2 strands of wick.
Note: That positive connector where the coil attaches is able to be spun around if you over tighten it and the wire soldered to it will break off, basically the same deal as the positive connector as on end of a carto.

UPDATE: I switched o-ring with the one on mouth piece, they looked the same, now center piece fits normal, mouth piece is too tight going on. That o-ring must have made regular trips to McDonald's or something.

Mail came in, now I'm up to 3 Vivi genesis attys and a DID, also wanted to let you guys know that the Smoktech VV gripper is pretty slick for checking resistance and vapes like a beast. Run on much? Have the DID and 2 Vivi's loaded up for my vape meet in an hour. Vaping some Caramel Cappuccino, Jr Mints, and Ryuan RY4 all DIY. Best of luck to everyone with the purchases/mail.

The main problem with these appears to be all with the wick holes when using cotton or silica wicks. If you looked it my holes from the top they would resemble an elongated, angled funnels. Be really careful not to cut into O-ring groove. center tube area or threaded hole fore negative post. I have my two working really well, actually better than I expected from a single/top coil.

Note that my "Dremel" is a $10 Chicago Electric Kit, certainly not as good as a Dremel but is perfect for this application. Just a little Dremel bit costs more than $10 and this kit comes with all kinds of bits. From Harbor Freight, if you don't have one nearby order online. Look for coupons in Sunday paper and get it for $7.49

Anyone????????????

Ebay is always a good place to buy, House of Hybrids, Stormy's actually looks pretty good.

I believe 325 is going to wick thicker juices better than 400, I personally prefer the 400 for anything ranging from 60/40 on up for the PG side.

Kanthal is going to have a slight break in period, some say a tank or so, I say about a half hour lol. Nichrome has no break in, but will warp slightly after so much use, and may need to be adjusted if your using a stainless steel wick.

32 gauge is going to be lower resistance and thicker, 36 will be thinner and higher resistance. When building a genesis out of the Vivi you'll find the wick leaves a small amount of space to work with for coils, I'm able to get a wrap showing 3 on one side and 4 on the other. I mainly use 32 guage Kanthal a1, and with a wrap like that I'm floating between 1.2 and 1.5 ohms meaning the VV devices hang lower than I thought I'd be using them at when I bought them lol...my Provari hasn't gone over 3.4 in a few weeks now.

Hope that helps a little.

Quite well, I had to rewrap the coils angling the wick away from the brass nuts, but I keep my DIY Jr Mints in it at all times. I will say that I'm enjoying it more now that I've drilled the air hole some and got my SS Ming in the mail, best drip tip ever.

I'm interested in TommyG's just out of box impression of ViVi tanks

I was really hopeful for at least one of the two I received today, thank you Hoosierecig lol, I filled both up with the juice I wanted to use in them and soaked the coils pretty good. I took them out to the garage while I got some things ready to mod the dud, and wound up modding them both...they were great until I vaped what I had personally put on the coils, then it ran dry. Now I'm up to 3 Vivi genesis', and a lone DID. The Vivi is still a fantastic platform for modding into a few different tank styles, Genesis (personal favorite), scuba U shaped wick, a proper CE style with a little wick hole drilling I've heard, or done up with cotton wicks. For 15 dollars I don't think it can be beat.
