I use only 400 mesh with 100% vg. There is a lab experiment somewhere in ECF proving 400 wicks 3 times more than 325 mesh with 100%VG. I also roll the most mesh I can get into a wick, I use a 40mm x 45mm rectangle for my Line v2, This makes a 2mm dia wick this gives great capillary action. By the way I normally vape 2.8 ohms at 5 to 6 volts use 32 awg and vape over 5ml a day. Many people confuse wicking (capillary) with draining like a straw, which is what 325 does. So if a narrow capillary tube will draw a liquid column higher than a wide tube it is just physics that 400 mesh will raise liquid higher than 325. The thickness of the juice is irrelevant to capillary action until you reach the limit, which would be smaller than the molecular size of the liquid. Actually a 500 mesh would be even better with 100% VG.

Wow, this is awesome info, thanks so much. I'm assuming the wick hole is the same size on the Maxi as it is on the Line.
Luckily I also have (a small amount) of 400 mesh.. I will have to buy more. I guess I never stopped to think about it and just went with what everyone else was saying (325 for VG!) - at least in the scubagen thread.
That does make complete sense, though.

Do you roll your wicks around a wire or anything, or try to get it as tight as possible? I will definitely try your method first. edit: clearly you said the most mesh you can get in 2mm.. so I assume not.
I also have 32 awg kanthal wire.

Maybe this is why I was having wicking issues with the scubagen.. even though everyone claimed 325 wicks VG better.

Simple Wicking Experiment
Roll two Identical wicks at least 3 inches long SS325 and SS400
In a small jar like those used to serve individual jelly in restaurants.
Put about an inch of VG in the jar and place the wicks vertical through holes in the cap.
Make sure the bottoms of the wicks are submerged equally into the VG.
Observe and reach your own conclusion as to which one wicks better.

"So if a narrow capillary tube will draw a liquid column higher than a wide tube it is just physics that 400 mesh will raise liquid higher than 325."

Does that have any impact on the Genisis since with ours it does not have to be drawn up but flows down?
I am confused hihi.

In the flow down it is acting more like a straw with gravity pulling it down and in my opinion very hard to control with 325 thus many flooding problems, but use it if it floods go to #400 rolled tight and no hole in the center. Just don't be fooled that 400 won't wick 100%VG.

For overhead I do not roll around a wire, no reason to exaggerate the straw gravity effect.

For under I do roll around a thin paper clip as the hole works like a mini volcano with the natural rising of any heated substance.

Very helpful, thanks. I wonder if I should go thinner than the 22awg wire I've been using. Definitely gonna try the 400 mesh first, though. It'd be for the tank under the coil (Genesis Maxi)

BJ43, have you got a link to that please? I have searched for it, but no luck.
Nope can't find it now, it was done on another forum and someone linked it here. It was different diameter wicks all the same length from from 325 and 400. They tested both 100% PG and 100%VG and kerosine. They even made miniature kerosine lamps and the 325 would not wick enough to stay lit. I did the test I posted earlier and the 325 only wetted up the wick 1/4 in and the 400 the whole wick in 5min and left it over night and no change the max capillary action on the 325 was 1/4 inch up the wick.
They also did tests on fiberglass , silica, and ceramic wicks.

FINALLY. I got home and finally had the chance to set the Maxi up. using 400 mesh and 100% VG.. very tightly rolled wick... vaping GREAT.
Thanks so much for the tip BJ43!

Here it is on my Provari Mini

Just curious - how is the performance on a Maxi when using a 3ohm coil? My coil is 2.2ohm right now, and it's working beautifully, but it does drain my battery a bit faster than I'd like. Then again, I'm used to using 3ohm cartos, which draws less amps and uses less battery. Just wondering if there are any downsides to making a 3ohm coil on this, other than the space needed for the coils might be a little larger than the post heights... I know a lot of how-to guides use like 1.9-2ohm coils.

Either way, not a huge deal, I can always use a bigger battery in the Provari Mini.. the 18350's are pretty small anyway.

Thanks!

Im not debb and I am sure she will comment but I have them also.

They work great. I have 3 and only one went one a bit hard but it was not a big hassle at all.
I use them with Kcos drip tips as well with Super-T drip tips. Those fit all very good.
I also have some of those cheaper ones whereas some fit ok and some not good at all. They are delrin or plastic or something like that. Not the ones from Genisis though.
The SS versions fit best for me.

VapRon, thanks, I can always count on you for the answer :) I just ordered 2 of them. Now I just have to hunt down kcos or Super-T and pick up some 510 SS tips.

Thanks again!

So I've got some pyrex glass tubes coming that will fit my Genesis Maxi. I'm afraid to take this apart to replace the tank... how should I go about doing that?
Also.. how do you guys clean your Genesis? I know you can take the wick out and torch it clean, but what about the coil? Is it worth cleaning or do you just recoil when it gets gunked up? Maybe an old toothbrush with alcohol?
