Guess it is time to wrap up another day. Good night TreeFam.
There's quite a story that comes with this place, but I'll try to keep it short. They call it "Smith House" and it's in, of all places, Smith Canyon. Seems some guy (named Smith - what a coincidence!) built it entirely of concrete, back before concrete became popular or even regularly used in construction. He even made the bathtub out of concrete and the stairway to the second level (obviously long since destroyed). Seems he did all this as a wedding present for his fiancee' (some upper class pioneer's daughter from the city of Bend). But when he took her out there to see it, she said she could not see the beautiful snow capped mountains from there and refused to live there (after all that work!). I think they never got married in the end... Too bad someone didn't make an official memorial out of the place and preserve it - instead, it looks to me like a lot of rednecks have used it for target practice. (That's a camera in my hands, by the way, not a gun.)
