Way way back, long long ago we used punch cards for programs. It was not a happy time if the tray with the cards was dropped.

Before my time...I just had to deal with 5-1/4" floppies. Was soooo glad when 3.5" floppies came around.

Late getting on here today because I had to drive to Sturgis this morning for an optometrist appointment - yes, I'll be getting new glasses, but they still can't help the "blind" eye much (even the glasses will only correct to 20/40 for that eye, and even then, most of the "reading" was a guess). Anyway...
There weren’t any stairs, it was a one story house!
Silly!
Not necessarily... I own a house that is officially classified as "one story." The north entrance has stairs (3 steps) and the south entrance has stairs (4 steps). There is also a basement, which has stairs (11 steps), yet it is "one story" because all the official living accommodations are on one floor. Given that your story said "everything was pink," if that applied to my one story house, then there would be three sets of pink stairs. :)
Was soooo glad when 3.5" floppies came around.
Even though my "modern" computer can write to CDs and DVDs, I still keep a portable (USB type) 3.5" floppy drive (which do not flop at all compared to the previous 5.25" types) because I have tons of old Word files stored on them in the bookshelf, which is NOT pink). :) I wonder if any of them are still readable...

Welcome to ECF @TiltCity420 Check out this neat contest thread where you can win some really good e-liquid just by chatting with the great folks who hang out here (see complete "rules" on page 1). Lots of fun here! Nicest people on the forum and you just might learn a thing or twelve... :)

Cards were a bit before my time, too, but I do remember loading files via the cassette port (10+ minutes to load one program). And when we got a computer with two (TWO!) 5.25 floppy drives and 48k of RAM... woohoo, the sky's the limit! They were still single-sided, though, and one of the great adventures was punching a notch and a hole in the sleeve so that we could use the other side.

Four years later, we splurged and got a 300 baud modem.

Actually, the "floppy" name actually applied to the media within the sleeve. In the case of 8" (anyone remember those?) and 5.25" disks, the sleeves themselves were still bendable. The 3.5" disks had a hard plastic sleeve around the "floppy" media.

Didn't deal with 8" floppies but we did have 10". Also worked with reel to reel manual load tapes - think computer room scenes in some of the old movies.

Other machine is still downloading the updates - close to 3 hours now and at 97%. Then it has to do the installs.

TIOA Sns 8 eps 54: Anjel brought back enough food for Count and Katz; they had enough to share back. The day passed fast enough, they talked and laughed, eating when they were hungry. It finally was getting late, the temperature was even beginning to fall a little. "Okay, time to get ready." Anjel went into the shed, about three minutes later she came back out in all black, the sword on her back, mask in her hand; numerous items around her. She nodded to Katz, she went in; she to returned in all black. Count went in, and out he came in black. "Well?" asked Count. "Looks good." said Anjel.

"So it will be almost impossible for them to see us, but if they do; is there any way we can defend ourselves?" asked Katz, she had a few blades anyway. Anjel looked at her with a smile. "Could you go over by that tree, just by the wall; and dig down in the sand just there." Katz looked at her, and walked over to the spot, she began to dig and felt something. She sifted the sand away, and pulled up something hard. She took the cloth off, and revealed two swords. "How?" She asked while turning. "That story is for later, but you can attach those to your back; let me show you. Count came up quickly and watched how.

"Okay I want you to pay careful attention to me, listen, listen. Do as I do, and sometimes better what I say than do." Anjel showed them a few moves, how to take the swords out in various positions, and back in. She explained the silence and footwork. She had them do a few moves in front of her, she reminded them to listen, and went at it one more time. Their turn. Anjel watched, she looked and as a teacher "That would kill a man."

In the early 80's one of the James Bond movies showed a computer, the name started with Q but for the life of me I cannot recall the name. The system was not a big mainframe but geared towards small business users. It used removable hard drives that were about 14" in diameter. I was one of the few people in the Bay Area developing and installing systems for it. The oldest resume I have on file is from 2001 and it does not state the name of the system. Anyone remember it?

You guys got me reminiscing about the advent of the Zip drives. What an exciting time that was. I still have my box full of floppies and zip disks.

TIOA Sns 8 eps 55: The sun had gone down, the clouds were fairly scarce, the moon was just under half and giving plenty of light. "Okay here we go." said Anjel, she picked up her bags and began to walk. Katz picked hers up quickly and followed up fast "Oh come on, where did you get them?" "I tell you what, why don't you give it three guesses." Count had picked up his part and caught up enough and fast enough to catch on. "Do I get to guess as well?" Anjel responded in a very low whisper "So long as we have stopped, I have agreed and you are looking out and most silent."

Anjel moved forward a little more and put her mask on and pulled it down, she pointed to the right, there where some people coming towards the bridge, which they where going to go under. She put up her hand and came to a stop, she knelt down on one knee. Katz and Count came up behind her and stopped. They watched the couple get on the bridge and pass over, Anjel motioned them to move forward, she got up and moved silently forward, the other two followed in her steps, not silent; but trying.

Anjel made it to the bridge and looked under it for some time. She finally worked around and under the bridge and started forward, it was getting very dark, the others followed, the sounds of water and all; she wanted to take no chances and withdrew her sword. She got to the other side and dropped her gear. She looked out the other side slowly and carefully. Moving on the side with the shadow, she went out and started up slowly. She looked over the top, and came back down. She grabbed her things, She motioned forward again. Katz and Count followed her from under the bridge, the next wall was still pretty far off.

TIOA Sns 8 eps 56: Katz tapped Anjel on the shoulder, she looked around at her; Katz went by a tree and down, the other two followed. "Look I have been following your steps, but my feet are killing me." Count shook his head in agreement. Anjel nodded. Katz and Count went into their bags and took out their shoes and put them on their feet. When they finished repacking and closing the bags, the began again. When they reached the wall, they put the bags down, Count took a shirt out of his bag and gave it to Anjel, she put it in the water, rung it out and began. The bars groaned, she kept turning, eeeerrrr, crack. She let loose and turned, you could see the smile in her eyes.

The three got to the other side, and left almost everything on the ground in the shadow under the wall, Anjel went up first. She looked like always before, but this time streets and buildings, homes; offices. She breathed deep and ran across the street to the dark by the building across their way. Katz and Count came up the wall. They waited and watched there was nothing but the inside buildings, some windows had lights behind them shining. Finally a black hand appeared in the light and fingered them forward. Katz tapped Count on the shoulder, he got up and ran across. Katz waited for a second and got up and ran over.

The three were in the dark, none said anything; after a moment Katz and Count realized all they were doing was listening. There were sounds around, doors opening and closing, voices; things like people do, dishes, dropping something. Anjel got up and moved through the dark, down between the two buildings. The other two got up and followed. By this time Anjel would have been on top of the buildings, she looked for a way for the other two, and with luggage; otherwise on the ground the whole time. She knew one way, but the last part. She went that way anyway.

    Hmm... lessee....

1981 - For Your Eyes Only: Had the "ATAC" computer for ballistic missile control. According to the Internet, most of the prop computers were various models of Philips machines... Is this the one?
1983 - Octo.....: Computers did not play much of a role, but the Internet says an IBM made an appearance on Moneypenny's desk.
1983 - Never Say Never Again: The villain, Lago, had devised a fatal video game for two players. The Internet says the computer used as a prop was an Olivetti.
1985 - A View to a Kill: While the story revolved around silicon chips, the only appearance is an Apple IIc used to calculate the occurrence of earthquakes.
1987 - The Living Daylights: Can't think of a computer in this one... unless I have it mixed up with the "Licence to Kill."
1989 - Licence to Kill: I don't recall if the actual machine is shown (or what it might have been), but Bond used a computer to write a CD--a first on film, I believe.

My money's on the Philips computers used in For Your Eyes Only as the one you are thinking of...

(* "Internet" claims for computer appearances was pulled from Starring the Computer)

ETA: Gotta love ECF filtering on the first of the 1983 films...

Count - I don't think it was any of those computers. I could swear the brand started with a Q. And although I don't remember which Bond movie it was in I recall it came on screen for about 3 seconds in Q's lab.
But this all could be a false memory. I just don't know. If it comes to me in a dream I will let you know. Thanks for your effort - I tried searching but cannot come up with anything that matches my memory.

TIOA Sns 8 eps 57: Katz and Count followed, the sounds they heard were getting louder, some softer, and more. Anjel turned left down a very dark alley, she stopped just inside. The sounds of family were inside the building, and lots of them. Lights were on inside, the smell of food, laughter and talking. Anjel motioned to them to follow, she went down the side of the building. Anjel stopped and pulled a rope from her inside back. She spun it around and around and tossed it up, she did not need it. She tugged and went up a foot.

She then turned around and looked at the other two, she placed one hand on each side of the buildings near each, she pressed hard and lifted her legs; she then scaled up the building slowly, she made sure they saw her, and she climbed on top. The rope was moving a little and after a little time Anjel looked over, she motioned up. Katz looked up, Count waited. Katz took the rope and tied it around herself. She placed her hands on the buildings, and pushed, she tried and fell. She got up and tried again, she held herself. She brought her legs up and just as she did Anjel pulled up, most of the weight was off of Katz. She only need but steady really and helped as she could up.

The rope was dropped down to Count, he went through trial and error and lifted, Anjel and Katz helped to lift him, the rope was brought up and left where it was attached. Anjel motioned forward, they followed and jumped across the buildings as she did, Anjel picked small places only four or five feet across. After a few buildings, she stopped, there was a rope on top of the building already. Anjel dropped it, and went inside the window on top.
