Got the office supplies from Sam's and Walmart now I'm back here for another slow day :/
I have to go to the insurance company when I get off, I got a letter in the mail from the Dmv yesterday saying my insurance company reported me for cancelling my insurance and if I don't take care of it within 10 days they will suspend my license and car registration. I'm assuming because about a month and a half ago I had another huge problem from my insurance company.. Which seemed to be happening alot so I cancelled the policy with them and went to another company unfortunately when I cancelled it, it was around 5 in the afternoon so I waited till the next day and got insurance somewhere else. So now I have to pay a fine within 10 days. No insurance for 1-30 days is 125$ plus a 25$ reinstatement fee :/ if I would have known that I would have called the new company the same day.. Oh well I guess I know now

That's really interesting on how much they know about you and how fast they are to point and say you are doing something wrong..... and yet they can screw up every minute about other things and we can't say/do anything to them about it.......

Severe thunderstorm in progress. Continuous lightning in all directions. Heavy rain and spurts of hail. High wind and gusts to about 60 mph. Trying to say goodnight before the power goes out... :)

Oddly enough, we didn't lose our power, but I will have to check in the morning to see how many tree limbs are down. Storm has passed (at least the lightning is east of us now) and just a gentle rain falling (which we need), so all is well with the world once again (OK, my world anyway). ;)
I am happy to know that you are safe.............It was a cool night for me..........and I was happy.............

I hate bureaucracy. One of the local TV troubleshooters refers to the DMV as the "Department of Maniacal Vipers."

Hmm... That reminds me: I need renew my wife's car registration. Now, where did I put that envelope?

I am happy to know that you are safe...
Found two things that I hadn't noticed earlier: 1) The flag is absolutely shredded. I didn't go take it down last night because I'm not stupid enough to be holding onto a metal pole during all that lightning. Guess I better rummage through the stash box today and see if I have another flag to run up the pole. 2) A hen waddled out of the lilac hedge with 14 brand new day-old baby chicks. She obviously did s good job of shielding them during the storm last night. All the animals are OK today and our family size has just increased. :)

Thems all ma BeeBees, so I gots ta take care of 'em. :D I do wish their living accommodations were in better shape than they currently are, but lumber costs too much these days. Even though things are "acceptable," I really do need to do some serious work on fixing things. But it really bugs me that "soon" always seems to happen "next year." Oh well. Found a bag in the shop with an extra flag, so I will remove the "battle scarred" tattered version and lay it to rest properly. Now I really have to stop procrastinating and get my buns outside. Later...

She doesn't like your coop? Or do you have a coop. Or are the chickens free free free range.
Paid my DMV fees online a few days ago - simple since no smog check required.

Well, that could be a long story, but I'll try to keep it short. We have a coop, but it's only about 8' x 20' and it is shared (communal living) by about 40 chickens/roosters and 14 Guineas (though at this time of the year, most of the Guineas choose to roost on the rafters in the horse barn). Our chickens are free range in that during the day, they get to go anywhere on the property that they want to, but they know where the food is and I fill their feeder during evening chores, so by sunset, most all the chickens come into the coop for the night. Because it is crowded in there (including half a dozen big roosters), most of the hens that intend to hatch babies will lay out in the hedge rows or under the brush piles where they can be safely isolated, then one broody hen will claim that egg pile and sit on it for three weeks to hatch the babies - she is now "mommy" whether she laid those eggs or not. They need not fear foxes or coyotes because our Pyrs are very protective of the other livestock and keep all predators off the property (they miss the skunks, however, because the Pyrs think they are cats and have been trained to leave the cats alone), but they do fear jealous hens or aggressive roosters, which the Pyrs will not try to correct. So they hatch babies outside and protect them fiercely until they are at least two-three weeks old (fully feathered and able to run away without mom's help), then she will bring them into the coop and introduce them to the feeder and waterer, at which point they tend to continue to sleep in the coop with everyone else. In the mean time, we put out tiny chick waterers where they can get to them and scatter feed near where they are bedded down. If we know where the broody hens are (which is not always because they are good at hiding), we will put food in front of the broody hen during the three weeks so that she doesn't have to leave her nest to go eat. Some will, some won't, and if they won't, they loose a lot of weight in that three weeks, so we do our best to find and feed the broodies. That was still too long, huh?

Well, I figured I'd deal with my wife's car registration renewal while running errands, since one of those errands took me close to the AAA office. Stand in line for a few minutes, get to the counter, and open the envelope to hand over the form... only to find "Smog Check Required." My wife's car is a hybrid--we've owned the car for 11 years and never needed a smog test. However, it appears the State decided to start requiring hybrids (and in looking it up, I found they also require all-electric vehicles) to be smogged alongside all the other cars. :glare:

Fuzzy =thanks for taking the time to explain how your chickens are raised. Very interesting. It has been a long time (except for travels) that I have had chicken that was not encased in some form of plastic. We can get free range eggs, free range probably being close to the situation you have.

8/1 - 2: How about this Count. On Saturday as I am fixing to leave to my boss' party, I see some six or seven unknown cars. Oh yeah here we go again, the house right across from me is rental property and they always are renting it out to teenagers who like to party and then throw their empty beer bottles in my yard, used cigarette box and butts. I pick it up every time, and walk it over to their yard and give it back. Skipping a lot when I get back there are two cop cars, and they used the spot light on me for a moment. I go to talk to them, and they must have been on edge, told me to back up and came out kinda aggressive. Whew worked that out, and when the cops leave about 15 teenagers come piling out of the house. I had already taken photos of their licenses, four of the teenage boys come up at me very aggressively, had to defuse that one as well. One young man told me he was going to put me down and take my phone. "Oh really?" I try to hand my phone to one of then. Here take it. "I don't want it." They learned that public spaces are actually public. And still leaving out a lot.

I'm not doing a very good job of staying outside and working. Too dang hot. Anyhoo...

Are you getting those eggs from a farm or a store? If it is a store, just to clue you in (and everyone else who's reading this stuff), the USDA and FDA definition of "free range" is that the chickens must have access to the outside. They don't specify how much space or how long that access is. So if they are store-bought eggs... I can tell you from personal observation that "factory farms" have several buildings that holds 10,000 chickens, each allocated no more than one square foot per bird, and on one side or end of that building, they have a fenced area about 20' x 20' so that the chickens can get outside during the day. How many do you think will ever see the light of day, much less be able to "range" anywhere? And for this, they are allowed to double the price they charge you. They also sell brown eggs at twice the price and the containers say "farm fresh." And where else are chickens raised but a farm? A factory farm is still called a farm, and brown eggs just mean a different breed of bird and has nothing to do with how fresh that eggs is. The same applies to the beef you buy. If they have a large enough feed lot, they get to call it "range fed beef" and other deceptive names. Hay, by the way, is merely dried grass, so they also call some of this "free range grass-fed beef" and charge up to ten times as much. Our society, sadly, is built on corporate lies with government complicity.
