Congrats
@SLM
A big thanks to GMO for giving us a home for another week and to all our lovely helpers for keeping things running smoothly.
Mandi, that is a lot of cookies! What a great way to break in your new stove.
Cookies, cookies...... so few for me, rather more substance..... I will skip cookies over bar b que pork ribs or a smoked turkey, even a good glazed ham..... The finest I ever did was an overnight turkey, I had to baste it every thirty minutes all night long. Good and better said they, as staying up all night long makes you sleepy..... Yes others claim to do so, but unless you do it, it is not as good. So, cooking in the pit let me give you a simple but very good recipe.
One large Turkey frozen, no matter the size.
Leave frozen and on the breast side add one stick of butter, then pour honey on it, and lots of it. The honey will freeze. Set oven to 250. Add aluminum foil, actually have it ready before hand, in a cross shape. Wrap and turn, more foil, wrap and turn; turn the turkey over and do it the second time and more. After getting cover with 12-14 layers of foil, set in some type of catcher, some juices will come out. Next day get up and the smell is wonderful, careful the steam and foil will be hot, the meat on the turkey falls off..... Do not know about the rest of you but green beans with mushroom soup is good..... and even a touch of asparagus on the side..... Cranberry for those who like it, and a good cider..... Cook here and want to know about cookies? LOL that is simple vs a good hearty meal..... Ummm mmm, see no
salt or pepper and still good, with honey.
