Some silica (not all) takes a little bit for the silica taste to go away..

Seems legit, because my wife uses one and she states she doesn't have that taste "anymore"

Problem is, I pull on that thing one time with stock wick, and it goes right back on the shelf. I just can't get over the taste.

A good question as I haven't used that type of wick in any other device besides the Spheroid. When I first purchased a Kayfun, I slapped micro/cotton on it right out the box.

Make sure you torch the silica before building. I pass the butane torch 3-4 times over the full length of my Ekowool very slowly, to get rid of any factory residue. You can sometimes see the Ekowool emitting a bit of smoke or vapor, which is residue you don't want on your taste buds or generally in your body.

Another great way, that I have found thats works really good to eliminate the silica taste-

When I make a fresh build with a new silica wick, I build the coil/silica wick and install it.....then, I load the wick with juice by dripping juice on it and use a lighter to light the silica. I catches fire (a little flame) and burns off all the juice and silica taste. Just left the flame go out by itself. It works really well to remove that nasty taste.

So since I couldn't get rid of the "thread" taste from the build on my Spheroid, I decided to tear it down and rebuild it this morning. Everyone knows I'm a cotton wick fan, so..
rebegare.jpg

Took some time to get that thing mounted right since I was mounting the coil by itself with no help from excess wicking material to help stabilize. It's not low-ohm by any means, and the tails are roughly 1/4" in length. I know, I know, I will do my best to brush up on my metric.

Finally I can appreciate the Spheroid. Poor thing has been shelved since purchase, because taste is huge to me. It always had great vapor, but the wick taste was horrid. Until I figure out how to rid the taste from the stock wick, it will be cotton for my vaping pleasure.

Nice!
Does the 'U' perfectly stay that way after a while D?
I've been considering a micro-cotton build for my Spheroids, like my KFLs, but had been holding the idea since I wasn't sure it'd stay upright and not sag.

B'coz, if it drops down = no juice flow into the coil = dry burn = lousy taste in the mouth for weeks.
And prolly the wick catches fire too :)

Q!

This picture was shot after saturating the wick prior to putting the Spheroid back together. About an hour later I pulled it apart to glance at the wick, should've snapped a pick, but it was sitting in a perfect U shape.

I was amazed by the appearance, because I thought it would sag too. I'm gonna post a pic of it in just a sec..

Nice again!
I'll give it one more day... for ur updates... then build a micro-cotton on one of my Spheroids

Why not go with finer, less deep threading.
Except for the locking ring that can benefit from larger coarser threading in order to need less revolutions for travel, why the need for beefy threads?
Is there any great torsional momentum that a mod has to withstand?
I just don't get it with my thick head.
As much as i would like an X, it goes too much against my grain an 18xxx mod with a 23mm OD.
I must be the only person on Earth with this disease.(and probably Super-T Dave)

PS. I recently was able to get my hands on a straight Piccolo(SN 0113) and i must say, even though it is an older version the switch is the nicest ever of all the mechanical devices i have tried so far.
At 16mm OD it is only 1.5mm larger than the battery it houses. Threads of the top cap and switch assembly are very nice and fine.
Why can't its big brother use the same threading and same wall thickness of the tube?
I am really curious if there is a design feature that requires a deep threading or it is just cheaper and more financially feasible.
Or maybe it is just a consumer preference, the heavy and "solid" feel of an anti tank hand grenade that gives a sense of security to some people that it wont shatter and blow their face off if something goes wrong with the battery.
I hope nobody gets me wrong.
I like very much the GP line of products, they look extremely nice and polished but the 22-23mm OD is killing me in the prime of my life.

We have developed the 16 and 22 mm mods which cover the majority of the atomizers, but for our plans the 22 mm OD is restrictive. Simply, some things need room to be done properly, at least in the way we design them.

I have since tore this wick out and tried another, because I'm complicated like that. It's gonna come down to the thickness of the cotton as it does with any micro-cotton build. I haven't got it down yet, but I'm sure not tasting the silica :D

I'm still a novice at building. Perfect it, post it, so I can see your work!

Aside from my coil wicks, I love the U wick also. When I am in a hurry to set up, I grab a bit of 3mm eko and very satisfying.

Best way I've found to judge the wick density in the coil: twist the end you're threading through tight between your fingers. Leave the rest fluffy, but neat, about double the diameter of the coil. Once you get the thread part in pull until you get resistance, then give it a gentle wiggle+pull and stop. After that point forcing it would mean too much wick in the coil.

I'm very far from being a pro at it, but the vape I'm getting is the best I've experienced.

dammit man, why are you sending scum our way!? we have enough holding high-office :(.

my 2nd amendment right cries itself to sleep every night while i look at my neutered AR mags and the silly "bullet button".

i have seriously considered moving to coeur d'alene - if i could only lock-down a gig that pays as well as i have in SF.

Hilarious post. This particular sign is in northern Idaho coming in from WA. They aren't so nice father south. Crime it's not accepted here :).
Illinois just passed a concealed carry law recently! Now if there were any gun shops around.....

Nice brother. I'm surprised. We don't have to register firearms and can open carry except in bars....sometimes. Idaho may seem hillbilly but suprisingly is very educated.

That's a real sign? I thought it was fake.

I was reading up on concealed weapon licenses.. I thought California allowed them (?). Not that I need/want one... well, more accurately, cannot afford one or a handgun. I was 'researching' handguns a couple months ago.. every single one I liked was waaaaay too expensive.
