Well you did it Idaho.

You inspired me :)

It took most of the day (a comment on my manufacturing skills perhaps?)

But I made one. Some little changes. A hand screw so I don't need a screwdriver. added a washer to hold the wire. And the post around the drill it to use as a guide.

I was going to sell these and make a million dollars, but then I can to my senses when the GF looked at it with "that look" which I have seen many times. The one that asks what is that hideous thing you just spent all day in the basement working on :). Plus my manufacturing times (one a day) would probably be prohibitive. :)

Sadly this is its good side too :)

Still want a cool professional one, but this works well for now.

On a side note, going to my first local meet tomorrow. Will be small but interesting. Also a local friend just took apart his spheroid and built it completely with cotton. As the filler and the wick. With micro coil.

Freaked out.

In a good way of course. Swears he will never build it differently again.

Hope all are well.

he was able to build a house out of stone, and a car out of stone, wood, and animal skins. I had modern tools and a fully stocked hardware store at my disposal and this is all I could manage.

Fred for the win :)

I am famous for using things for purposes they were never intended...the only difference between you and I is that I don't post mine...

Very nice Blake. Sounds like a great day to me. Being able to work by myself productively and think. Love it.
No comment here about your skills as the functioning and success over overshadow. In fact. Never considered it :). Nice job.
Why even buy one? Done. You will run across something to make your creation better suit your ocd.
Don't you like the ring of telling someone "I made it"? Sand it and paint it if you like buddy but, I like the character.

I used pharmaceutical cotton in one of the Spheroids once. The cottons primary use was for the filler of med bottles, I tried cotton balls as well. I felt like both were holding too much juice and not wicking down as well although it vaped very well.
When I use cotton wicks they get a bit worn from the fluff as it had a tendency to stock a bit as Velcro does but that was another benefit of the cotton medium in the tank. The answer for me was to use the fluff for the above reason.

I was thinking about sanding and painting.

Should have probably done that before I attached all the stuff. maybe the next one :)

It does work remarkably well, even without torching the wire. What a smart idea that was. not mine of course :)

I was thinking about adding a cool grip someone where as well. Ill probably mess with it until I totally screw it up as I usually do. :)

Ill be interested to see how my buddy's cotton set up holds up.

ob, I hope you know I'm just teasing you...I also thought I could make one, and when I PM'd darkzero, he'd just finished a batch and had a couple left over. So it was worth the $25...I'm at that age where I know I can make something, but can afford just to buy it, cause my time is worth more.

ok...so now that I am all sorts of excited over the Heron...we use the "FLUFFAGE" in the Sphere/dome/cap?? but can you use cotton balls as the wick? Will it still wick well? I am totally off silica and I am not into the SnC yarn...

did I mention that I am excited about the Heron?

I know :) Trust me, I was expecting SOME abuse when I posted it. I will dish it out, so I better be able to take it :) The DZ ones are cooler indeed.

my buddy just completely built a spheroid with cotton. I am guessing it could be done. I guess we will have to see :)

I use the SnC yarn, even tho I use cotton in every thing else. Idaho is right, the cotton and the fluff are like Velcro. And since you must unscrew the base of the spheroid to refill, you have to reshape juicy cotton to reassemble. With the yarn, you don't.

I must tell you that I tried the SnC in the Sophia tonight. Best results from it yet. I have enough of it to rewick an entire third world country, if you'd like to try some, PM me, and I'll get some to you.

hahahahahahahaha!!!!! Love that comment. I appreciate the offer but I had purchased a SPOOL for hubs a long while back (no dent made in it for sure) ... I just didn't have ANY good results in it when I tried using it in the Ithaka. So I haven't gone back to it at all...found the organic cotton balls and fell head over heels in love....didn't really want to give that up...

you know I read Idaho's post about it and my thick head didn't get a visual for the Velcro thing but I got a good visual now...DUH!!! LOL...
