My Paps X converter ring for the Heron shipped from Domo today, but I am not so sure my V3 and Heron made it out. :( I had made a mistake of forgetting to add the adapter to my order so I had to make 2 separate orders. I hope he remembered that I asked that they ship together. I hope I don't have a sad Monday lol.

Well I think my Gpin is trashed. I finally got it threaded onto the insulator. But there's no spring in the pin & I can't get it apart. I think I'd have to trash the pin's threads by holding on to it w/ vise grips to get it apart.

I will order another when they are available again. Oh well, live & learn.

Thank you for your help Perseas!

Oh :(. Sorry WV. Is there any way you can post a picture of your challenge? It may help P find a temp solution.

I think the overheating episode I had earlier melted the threads on the insulator. I managed to get the fully assembled pin into the insulator now, but can't disassemble the pin.

Not sure a pic will help?

Hrmm, I can definitely tell the insulator is melted a bit. Have you tried to heat the Gpin up maybe in boiling water and then givving it a go using something like 2x thick rubber bands for leverage or pieces of latex?

Blake offered generously to run to the airport and ship out my Paps v3, but I declined. He said that DHL did not get the Herons to him so I will wait until he has a chance to ship them both together. I have enough GP stuff to hold me over until I get the new stuff. :D

Perseas has got this under control for sure as always! The only thing you can do is try and separate the pin with two rubber bands or invest in a small set of poly/rubber coated pliers to protect threads and finishes. They are fantastic to have in your tool kit.

So you say there is no spring in the pin?

The spring is physically in the pin, but there is no "spring" to it when I try and compress it. Make sense? I looked for rubber bands and don't have any, but thought about sticking the pin in the freezer rather than boiling it. I tried holding onto the threaded part w/ tweezers over a paper towel, and the wider rim part w/ needle nose pliers over a paper towel, to try and twist it apart. No luck.

I just found that Vapourart has it in stock. I'm just gonna buy another. It's $50 but what the hell, aggro pay :)

Thanks everyone for your advice and help. If I somehow get this sucker back to working, I'll at least have a spare!

You impress all with your positive outlook. +1. We all learned from it.

I think the spring most likely collapsed when the unit heated up due to the "short" or whatever caused it to heat up.

You know, that's what I thought too. But when the pin came apart I checked the spring and it was actually fine. Or seemed like it anyways.

Haha thanks Idaho :) You know, I learned a long time ago not to let crap like this get to me as it will only bring me down. It is what it is...that's my motto! Cheers :toast:

I suggested boiling as I never had any luck with the freezing technique. I don't know why but it has never worked for me. :(

Now I am a 100% latex user. You could also try a pair of kitchen rubber gloves.

As Idabro said though, you are really taking it well and I like your positive outlook on the whole situation. :D

When I go to work on Monday night I will have access to latex gloves and will try and thieve some :D

In the meantime, will try both boiling and freezing. Will prolly end up trying both again after I get my hands on that latex! Hmmm, wonder if my roommate has some latex in his wallet...

Actually you need just a new GPin and if you remove the melted insulator from your top cap, you'll be fine. I will send you a new one. Please send an email to info@vapourart.com with a copy of our discussion and your address details of course :)
