First Heron build was going on great and had everything set up until the first toot...button got hot and I knew there was a short somewhere. Took off the cotton cap and fired fine. I think I was pulling the coil too much and made it touch a post everytime I put the cotton cap on. So I re-wicked and did it slowly this time. Working great now. It just whistles a bit, I have my AFC set wide open. Still waiting for the KGD in the mail. All in all I am very happy vaper! Absolutely work of art! Beautiful! :)

@Mackoy Looks great, congratulations.

It does look like quite a bit of wick. A good rule of thumb with micro coiling and cotton is the cotton should move back and forth without dragging the mod with it. Choking a micro coil is often the case of dry hits or funky gym sock cotton flavor.

Anyway, your pics are fantastic.
Cellulose cotton/Rayon I learned its different as the medium tends to shrink in the coil after use. With that said, I do fatten up the Cellulose Cotton a bit more.

Thanks Idaho! Yeah I might tweak it up again tomorrow I think I just shorted it again. My multimeter is broken so I dont know if my coil resistance is just too low. It heats up pretty fast! 28g 8 wraps on 2mm diameter screwdriver. I'll get a multimeter tomorrow to make sure I dont go below 1ohm and see how it goes. Just too tired for now lol

That's crazy. I hope that he was prosecuted and charged with arson. I love how you're so matter of fact about it and all the other funny/crazy stuff that you've lived through. What a ride!

hehe. Firestorm calling the kettle Arson...or was it black....I forget how that saying goes

I miss this place. Wish i could hang out more.

Earlier, I told about the house that a 'terminated' employee burnt down. That was a really cool house. Any photos of that house burned in the fire. But, I still have some artist renderings of it. The first floor, was commercial sized garage space to accommodate our big boy toys. The second level was large open area, with 360 degree massive balconies. A beautiful iron spiral staircase took you to the third floor. The fourth floor, was a smaller 360 degree windowed widow's peak. The house was structurally 'overbuilt'. It was built to stand up against almost any huff and puff winds. But, obviously not fire. :) Oops! :)

360 balcony overlooking 20 acres sounds breathtaking. Sorry it's not there anymore

Yes, breathtaking. Beautiful old trees! Every tree is a gift. But there is something so special about old trees that have lived long before us. Critters galore! Peace and beauty! Financially, I should have let that property go. But......

Make sure you adjust the wick amount as Idaho said. But also check the coil height. It's a tad difficult to see in the first pic, but if the coil is above the screws it MAY end up touching the chimney.

Possibly he needs a new topper, he contacted me and we shall fix it.

Really doubt you'll be sub ohm with that build. I did two new Heron builds yesterday at 1.3 and 1.7 with 28g on a 2.4mm form. I didn't count the wraps, just used my Fluke to get them about where I wanted them. The Fluke was a little flaky, so got exactly what the final ohms were after they were installed using a 510 adpater on a Heron.

Love my old Fluke that cost several hundred dollars when I bought it in about 1980/1. I found that the battery in it was finally so low I'll need a new battery for it now. So the battery in it has only lasted about 33 years. Back from when it got used everyday and survived the baggage gorilla's on up to 200K miles a year on commercial flights (& 2 crash landings) until I retired in 1990, but also quite a bit since. Super efficient VOM, and maybe a batt with a mind of its own that just wouldn't give up. Might be why I'm still here too. ;)

EDIT: Ahh, the old start typing a reply/take a break for a short walk in the night air and it's already been handled by someone else thing.

Twice commercial, twice flying in the Navy (technically once, punched out of a TA-4 the other time and played tag with the sharks while waiting to get picked up).

<_<

I envy the life experiences of people in this thread. I've been to 6 different countries, and I'm only 24...and I thought that was exciting, but you guys really make me feel boring lol.

I know plane crashes aren't exactly something I should wish for, but the experience...that's something not many can say. Especially not 4 times.

Your stories reminds me of Indiana Jones or the movie character must be inspired by your adventures :)

No doubt I went through my life with my hair on fire, was and still am fearless, and survived way too many things I shouldn't have done in the first place, and plenty I had no choice in. But none of the crashes were all that serious, at least not to me, and nobody was seriously hurt in any of them (except the tax payers). :thumb:
