I solved my problem with changing flavors by obtaining a few setups. [emoji38]

At one point I had one end of the wick up to to the fluff/juice and one down to the deck. However it sometimes led to juice being wicked DOWN if it wasn’t vaped for a while.

As for finding the size... Once I found the perfect size fluff I cut a non currogated cardboard as a template. I have a complete tear down in a spheroid down to under 5 mins (not counting if its a fluff rinse)
I do the cardboard thing too.helps.

okay... so I went against my principles and decided to change two things at once (coil size and fluff length) and, so far, things are going well with a new coil (2mm, 8 wrap, 1.2 ohm) and 160mm of fluff.

hasn't leaked, yet, but I haven't pocketed it nor gone for a drive so I'll give it a couple of days

Nope... still leaks. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong, here. although I do notice that I have a higher chance of leaking when I've been chain vaping (guessing the liquid thins when great builds up in the atty), but how to fix that? I've tried endless amounts of build variations with the exact same results.

Maybe I need to step away from it for awhile.

Here's my coil:

Don't know my my recent pics are so bad. but those are just my current wicks. I've tried short wicks, long wicks, double wicks, wicks with one tail up and one tail down.

About the only thing I haven't tried is extra long wicks with the middle stuffed into the deck ring and the ends pointing up into the fluff.

Just to rule it out, I just now put some liquid into my tank, turned it upside down on a towel, and heated it with a hair dryer. Nope, no liquid came out.

How close is the fluff to the coil? Maybe someone knows. I don’t remember using wicks that long. But then again I cant speak for certainty since I don’t have one. Also how high is the coil above the air hole?
The fluff is about even with the end of the chimney. I've also tried it shorter with the same results.

btw, I built the Heron v1 with no cotton topper for the first time and I can already see a small amount of liquid on the deck. How do you guys keep it clean?! Mine isn't leaking though. I think the raised air hole on the deck has a lot to do with it not leaking.

I still maintain that the cotton topper helps keep the deck clean too (although it's much easier to build, and check, without the topper.

I can already see liquid pooling around the coil and the posts but it's not a lot. wondering if I should try moving the coil away from the posts to give it better spacing...

edit: I've replaced the deck ring (with no adverse consequences and added a couple of drops of liquid to the wick. I can immediately see that the excess liquid travels down and pools on the deck. I don't know if this is related to the wick proximity to the posts, if it's because of the wick contact with the deck ring, or simply because I have now over-saturated the wick.

I'll try eliminating these one by one. first I'll move the coil away from the posts. Then I'll try to make sure the wick doesn't contact the deck ring (that's going to be hard).

If that isn't the problem I'll have to mess with the fluff density to not let the liquid flow so readily. I'm pretty sure I've already done this since I'm using quite a bit of fluff and NOT over filling.

okay... so the new build hasn't dumped out all of its contents, yet, although I did have one significant leak. It may have been some liquid from my initial testing (even though I swear I blew that all out).

Will continue to vape it and see how it goes.

First Heron v1 topperless build is going strong. Not one leak. There's actually more room to work with the wicks far away from the posts.

New wishlist item: Heron v2 deck with raised air hole.

edit: ugh... I just checked it and there's a bunch of liquid pooling on the deck just waiting to spill out of the afc all over me. I think you can see that the new coil is well away from the posts and I've even angled the fluff forward towards the afc as well. That's just a flood waiting to happen.

I'm going to be forced to come up with some wick scheme that includes part of the wick on the deck to keep the flooding/waste down.

There's no way I can fit any more wick in there and I've tried all manner of fluff from 110mm all the way up to 190mm with the same result
