He'll eat almost everything except Durian and walnuts. I have no idea how he can stomach some of the things he eats. Especially the stuff he says has a poopy taste.

I remember Andrew Zimmern from Bizzare foods trying it. That guy is the original food adventurer. But even he has one or two things he won't eat. Durian being one of them, for the texture if I remember correctly..

The german word for it is Suelze, something pickled; especially : seasoned and chopped pork trimmings.

That stuff got me in real trouble at age 4, I wantedn some because I thought it looked pretty and mom said no, so I swiped it and got caught.
Two weeks on souse as punishment, mom asked if I learned my lesson, my reply was "if I had known that I would have taken chocolate.
That is funny, souse is all parts gelled together in a salt and vinegar base and is in blocks or sliced, parts of cartilage and crap!! Not on my menu but see it if ten at the Piggly Wiggly!!

Can't frankincense be substituted?

I've heard yes, but I'm fresh out. :/ I'm really hungry now, too. Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern are my idols in the food world and I'd try every delicacy just listed. Lol

I was raised on crawfish, seafood gumbo with okra, oysters, and fried okra in Mississippi and Louisiana. Yes I have sucked the heads and pinched the tails many many times and never tasted mud in mine!

Won't be eating any here in Pittsburgh, Pancake tells me they serve em without the heads, dey wrong for dat!!

We're all out of Myrrh, tin foil, and thuribles, but we do have a nice stock of the original sacred Nag Champa incense sticks. Hope that works. Besides, I already peaked at my Rewards card upside down BUT it doesn't count because I don't get my eyeglasses till Friday and all the words were very blurry!!! :D

So in the midst of having a super crappy afternoon (lets just say it involved a family member, cops, jail, car impounded, driving all over Indy trying to help, getting large amounts of cash out of bank and buying someone two weeks of groceries) my thoughts are w/my ProVari buds of where this particular thread went. No, I didn't decide to go out and try all these nasty morsels but did find one to include by accident.

In my exhausted haze, I glance over and see this sitting on a grocery store shelf, started cracking up, took a pic and had to share. I'm not as cultured in "unique" foods so I have never seen this before. It claims to be sponge pudding, in a can no less so not sure if its just eaten straight out of the can or what. Either way, I pass trying this but so much fun could be said about this name...and being microwaveable, I wonder if it expands when heated

I can't remember what the story is behind the names, but Spotted .... is quite nice (my ex is English). It's a pudding (what we would call custard) with raisins in it.

Well the description you gave sounds way better than the name of it. Wonder where they get the second part of the name from????

They have very odd names for lots of things over there, but we do here as well. Imagine what a visitor to the US might think if you told them you had Pigs in a Blanket for breakfast?

Let's not forget about Bangers and mash!!

I love bangers and mash! One thing that makes me homesick is when I think about food. This place is truly dismal when it comes to epicurean diversity. We do have good Indian food, but only in proper restaurants. The prospect of a quick curry take-away doesn't even seem close to the horizon. :(

I remember hearing about it somewhere, but I don't remember the explanation. I listen to a radio program revolving around brewing that's kind of like Howard Stern meets brilliant scientists. There's a lot of in depth info & they really geek out, but they don't take themselves too seriously & throw in some locker room humor. I'm pretty sure they were asking one of the British brewers they were interviewing about it. I only remember there was a flood of jokes through the whole interview.
