I've seen it unpractical for me. I can machine one, I have all neccesary equipment, but it's unpractical.

Mind if you can tell why?

I know some people who has one since december 2012, pretty much the only device they use daily and they have quite a few other devices. I'm going to be the 4th one who owns one at our vape meeting. No complaint from them and I don't see anything wrong with it.

The bends... Too many contacts that can fail. If it's a tube mod, I'd use it as a tube mod.

I've bought 2 of these ..the first one is my daily user, because the replacement I purchased 4 months ago does not vary the voltage but I still use it for an ohm meter when making coils for my tanks.

My first gripper has been with me for 2yrs and has always been my only device. It has served me well, but it is now being held together by duct tape and glue for the 510 fitting.

Any commendations?????

What bends?

There's only one thing to solder, so one contact, it's at the bottom completely, linking the battery to the electronics of the Vamo, it's well protected. If the Vamo fail for some reason, you just buy a new one, take the old one out and put the new one in. It's pretty neat.

This unit won me a Sigelei Tmax from VapeSquad. The Tmax died. I still use the VV Gripper every day.

If you want "recommendations" then...yeah. Get the excellent guts of the VV Gripper in a wood and metal version. It's called the Trixie. I got one and love it. Plan to get another soon as they are back in stock at MV.

where do you get that metal version, I don't like wood. I don't care if it doesn't have VW as I'm not really using it anyway but it has to be in metal. I love that fact that the atomizer is lower, that is just awesome and it has 3 buttons which is very good !

just received my Vamo today in the mail tho, it's hitting like a charm, love it, just need more time to solder it and make a Vamo Shrink, however if MV sells the Trixie in metal, I might just buy it too as a backup, even though I find the shape... weird... lol

The shape is a bit different..but I'm really liking it. It curves so it nestles in the hand beautifully and the fire button falls naturally under one's thumb or finger...either hand. But no...it's not available in metal. Just wood with metal connector platform and metal battery door.

Where do you get that one in your picture then, it's in metal.

Nice, but out of budget... :( I'll get me an MVP from FT...

With the help of friends I've been able to finally finished building the Vamo Shrink, here's a few picture comparing it side by side with the Gripper. It's really a nice upgrade compared to the Gripper. Vamo inside, so VV and VW, stainless steel, very sturdy, 221 grams with 18650 battery and my atomizer on top, will definitely not fall when put on a table to rest.

The fire button is unfortunately not on top like the Gripper, but it doesn't take much time to get accustomed to it. If the internal of the Vamo dies, I can just buy a new one and put the new one in.

Don't know if this will help anyone but if you're having connector issues (0.0Ω or 9.9Ω errors) and don't want to operate you might give this a shot. I've brought two old VV Grippers back from the dead doing this:

Gently pry up the center pin on the 510 connector, and using a small screwdriver (like for eyeglasses), pack a little length of wick up under the center pin. It might not work right away, but after packing several pieces of wick around underneath the center pin you should eventually get to a point where your short is cured. Once you're up and running again it's probably a good idea to permanently screw on a short 510 extension if you have one.

Hope this helps! :)

I just came across the Trixie today and ordered one.:) I liked my gripper but they just didn't hold up good enough. The Trixie appears to eliminate the problems I had with the Gripper mainly the 510 connector and battery door.
