I have a question.First off let me state I like strong juices like pluid ecto and such.I have bunch of dyi stuff comin some tpa lorann capella.now I know diff stuff needs diff %'s but if you mix em too strong do they taste really bad or just too strong?
Yewstinc (lol @ your name!) - I like strong flavor too, but when I use too much flavoring the e-liquid just tastes bad - and most of the time it doesn't even taste anything like the flavor. Most tpa flavorings are good at 5%, but sometimes I need as much as 10%. LorAnn is usually a little weaker than tpa in general, but some can be very strong, i.e., LorAnn's Amaretto is good at just 2%. Most cherry flavors I've tried require less than most of the other flavors within a brand (cherry is difficult). Capella usually calls for 15-20% for me, but it's good stuff. If your PG/VG ratio is higher in VG than mine (80/20 PG/VG) you will most likely need more flavoring. At least for me, VG seems to mute the flavor so I'm guessing a high VG liquid would need more flavoring than I use. You just need to play with small batches. To get an estimate of how much flavoring I need for 10 mls, I mix some in one ounce of sweetened water and just taste it.

That mixing with a shot of water sounds like a good starting point. And may save some wasted mixing supplies. I'll have to give that a try. Do you judge by odor, taste, or both?? I know the flavors won't carry exacly the same in water but I'm guessing it's pretty close.

Actually I found adding some DW improves the taste and steeps a tiny bit better.

I judge by taste, also scent, but have found I can count on taste better. It's OK to swallow it too. :) Linda from Perfumer's Apprentice uses Cool Whip. Yum! I don't do tobacco flavors, but if I did, I think I'd still get a better idea by tasting over smelling.

can someone tell me how do i make a DIY juice i made at 24mg nic to lesser? Thanks alot
If you mean a lower nicotine level, just add your preferred PG/VG base with no nicotine and add more flavoring. In other words, if you want a 12 mg juice, put 5 mls (or however much you want) and add 5 mls of PG/VG including more flavoring.

A little disconcerning telling someone new to DIY about "eyeballing" mixtures. Sorry, just my personal opinion. Should be downloading an eliquid calculator first (ejuice me up). Punch in your preferences such as nic level and PG/VG ratios to get an idea of what to purchase. I usually start around 10% flavor and make up a small sampler bottle and adjust flavoring from there. Always try flavors alone before mixing flavors together to get an idea of exactly how they taste. Using correct measurements will give you more consistancy and once someone becomes more comfortable and experienced then they may not have to measure things out exactly. Keep a record of your mixtures and flavoring percentages and give them a rating after vaping so you have a reference for yourself.

Hi godspeed! Welcome to DIY! First you need to know your PG/VG ratio preference, i.e., mine is 80/20 PG/VG. Since most flavorings used for e-liquid DIY are in a PG base, I make a large mix of 75/25, PG/VG. Then you need to know what your nicotine mg preference is. You can get PG or VG nicotine liquid in a variety of strengths. I go back and forth between 6 mg and 12 mg base. So, when I make my big bottle base, I fill 1/4 of the bottle with 24 mg nicotine VG and 3/4 with PG, cap bottle, and shake, shake, shake to give me a nicotine base of 6 mg. When flavoring is added, the nic strength will go down a little, so you might want to adjust accordingly.

I bought plain, see-through condiment bottles (used for ketchup and mustard, etc.) at Walmart. I think they were about $1.00 each and look like they hold about 16 ounces of liquid. They come with a screw-on cap with a pointy nozzle that has a small snap-on cap. They are easy to fill and make squirting their contents into a small bottle easy. I just eye-ball where to make marks on the big bottle with a sharpie marker in 1/4 increments. If I want a base of 12 mg nic, I would do the same except I would use 48 mg nicotine VG instead.

It is very important to buy quality PG, VG and nicotine PG or VG liquid. Since my preference has a lot of PG, I do not add any water. I would only add water if my base liquid was too thick (high viscosity). Don't try to save money by adding water. Use it very carefully, only to thin out a liquid that is too thick (like Daveymist said).

The higher nicotine base liquid will last longer, but you will need to add extra VG or PG. I "kill two birds with one stone" by getting nicotine liquid in a strength that adds the correct amount of nicotine and VG at the same time.

Hope this helps and you have fun with DIY. Best wishes to you!

Hi everyone! Okay, so I ordered all of my DIY stuff the other day and somehow forgot flavoring (grrrrr). I am planning on placing another order with MFS, but right now I want to mix up some juice. Can I purchase flavoring from the grocery store and use it, or does it have to come from Lorann/Capella/etc?

Sure you can. Can't say if it will be worth vaping or if it will damage your coil without further details on the specific stuff carried at your local grocery store. Feel free to ask the questions in the main body of the DIY sub where more mixers will see it.

Wow.. this is fabulous! After almost 15 months of trying many, many juice vendors and too many flavors to count, I've finally decided on two or three juices that I keep going back to. And I'm thinking it might be time to try a little DIY... it's a bit overwhelming though. I've read every sticky but I'm still a little confused... I generally use 70/30 pg/vg so should I buy my nic in pg base? And is there anything wrong with getting 100mg nic and diluting it with equal amount of pg to make a 50mg mix to work with? I understand the dangers of nic and I have no children around so I don't worry about that. I've downloaded the calculator and it seems.... well, not easy maybe, but do-able. Many thanks to all of you... great info here!

Most of my mixes are 50/50 so when I order my Nic its 100% PG. That help use much less PG than you normally would. Of course it depends on what nic level you prefer as well.
