Has anyone else noticed that they have not been sick?

Oh yes.
I smoked for 35 years, and I used to get bronchitis really bad in the winter and fall, several times a year. Really bad - the kind of bronchitis where every breath hurts. - Since I took up vaping over 2 years ago, I have not had one (!) case of bronchitis.

Also for the common cold / flu:
I used to catch it a few times a year, late in my smoking "career". - Now, since I started vaping, I got it once (getting into a train with wet hair from rain and sitting in that train for 5 hours without being able to dry your hair will do that to you). But that is all. The common cold has attempted to assail me a few times, but nothing that could not be stopped from breaking out by drinking a pot of hot ginger water with honey and lemon juice.

Seems like my body is really grateful that I no longer poison it with tobacco smoke :)

There have been many studies done over the decades that show PG is an effective antimicrobial compound.
In fact, PG was first registered by the FDA back in 1950 as an air disinfectant.

Here is the EPA review: http://www.epa.gov/oppsrrd1/reregistration/REDs/propylene_glycol_red.pdf

And an excerpt from the relevant area:
"Target Pests: Odor-causing bacteria, Fleas, Mites, Red lice, Animal pathogenic bacteria (G- and G+ vegetative), Shigella bacteria, Pasteurella bacteria, Listeria bacteria, Herpes Simplex I and II, Animal viruses, Influenza Virus A2, Aspergillus Niger Fungus, Mold/Mildew, Pseudomonas SPP., Shigella Flexneri, Shigella Sonnei."

I just had the flu last week so nope. Antiseptics don't really do much against viruses and by sick most people usually mean either the rhinovirus or influenza.

understood.

though, the point i'm getting here is that through harm reduction our bodies are more capable of fending off the otherwise (when smoking) inevitable influx of unnecessary sickness. our immune systems aren't always busy trying to eradicate an overwhelming influx of tar and toxins. they're freer to do what they were meant to do.

I used to constantly get URIs when I was a smoker, but haven't since I quit 2 years ago. Because of this, I did not get a flu shot this go 'round. MISTAKE!! I caught the H1N1 flu virus in January and became extremely ill. I had to go into the hospital as I was suffering from dehydration and was out of my head with hallucinations due to a fever of 104. I spent 2 days in the hospital hooked up to IVs before I flat out said I was going home and left AMA. 24 hours later I was back in the hospital because I passed out while sitting on the toilet seat, fell face first onto the edge of the shower wall, and split my forehead wide open. Yay me! *sigh*

This is strange I have had the opposite happen to me. Yes I live in MN and yes we just hit 50 days this winter below freezing but I have been sicker then crap. I just got over bronchitis which I haven't had in at least 2 years when I was a smoker. The doctor gave me the Zpac cough syrup and a inhaler that I didn't get because it was to much money. This all happened the week before my trip to Vegas. One thing I did notice though while I was sick was no mucus sound when I coughed I actually sounded like I was barking. Vegas warmed me up but I came back with a slight cold. I still sounded like a toad when I came back to our wonderful Ice Box. The doctor told after over 30 years of smoking then stopping that it could take 6 months for your immune system to get back to normal. Today I feel great. My voice is normal again. But I can say the last few months have not been the best illness wise.

It has been a cold one this year, that's for sure. I am so happy that the weather is finally going to break up starting tomorrow, they are talking in the 30's on Thursday!! For all you who are not from Minnesota, that's t-shirt weather up here.

What your Dr said is true, the first few months of a quit can be horrendous as our bodies readjust. But look at you, 3 months and 23 days, thats great. Hope you are on the mend now, enjoy your quit.
