I smoked 38 years, I was up to 2 packs a day before e-cigs. I tried a free trial (What a farce!), but it showed me enough to get curious and now I think I am truly addicted to vaping.
Let me tell you though. I had gotten to a point that I couldn't go to sleep at night because I would hear myself wheezing. Every morning I would literally cough for 45 minutes to an hour before I could really start inhaling smoke. I knew I needed to quit, but 12 hours without a smoke and I was a very angry man. My wife and kids once asked me to start smoking again when I tried Chantix. It was terrible!
With e-cigs, I was able to quit and not look back without the horrible side effects of quitting. After just a month I no longer wheeze, or cough every morning, although I was amazed how much I coughed until my lungs started clearing up.
This is definitely the best invention since sliced bread!

The health impact of smoking is scary stuff, but quitting cold turkey is really hard both physically and emotionally. I went through so many emotional lows and physical pains (the shakes, nausea, insomnia, bad dreams, coughing, etc.) when I went cold turkey with complete nicotine abstinence. When I relapsed almost four months later, I felt like a total failure. Had I known about PVs then I would never have picked up the analogs again. Congrats on your quit, ECC, and thanks for sharing your story.

Well I am still smoking analogs with my pv. I just can't seem to kick them. Not sure what to do. I would love to be able to just say no I am not going to roll any more but I find myself continuing to roll more every few days. I have cut back a lot (down to half a pack from a pack-pack and a half) but just can't seem to stop. Maybe I need to find another pv. I have a V2, xhaler, indulgence and a few 801 batteries. I guess I get frustrated with getting a burnt flavor even after redripping. Should I try a variable volt? It's very frustrating and I ask myself why I am using a pv if I continue to use analogs. Any suggestions or tips on how you quit would be greatly appreciated. I've been at this over a year now an just can't get it to work.

Had tried everything...this was the only thing that worked for me. Took several months of only have a few analogs a day (my own lack of will power), but it worked. I'm also off 3 of my breathing meds for COPD, and (knock on wood) so far this has been my first winter that I have not ended up in the hospital!!! I was up to 3 packs a day, smoked for darn near 30 years..started when I was only 13. This has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I also love having my freedom and being able to vape in the house and not freezing my .... off outside. Way too many benefits to mention them all.

I still smoke a few in the evenings and when drinking. I have posted this exact text elsewhere but it is also pertinent to this thread so here goes -

Vaping has halved my cigarette intack but even the best flavours aren't as yummy as a Camel Blue or a Dunhill Orient with half the filter cut off with scissors....

Strange thing is that I PREFER vaping in the day as it stimulates the heck out of me even at 11mg and leaves no stink or tight chestedness.

However both in the evenings and when drinking - I want to feel relaxed, not stimulated and the vape just does not do it for me, even gives me insomnia if I vape up to an hour before bed.

I wish and hope that one day e-juice makers will look into putting other tobacco constituants into their juices other than just nicotine (perhaps the moais) so that they are more satisfying. I can't complain and 50% reduction is nothing to throw a stick at and I certainly feel less tired and healthier (face is more colorful now, hair seems better, more energy etc) but I still need more than just nicotine (in fact I don't like the nic buzz that much outside the working hours of the day and anything over 16mg makes my head pound and my ears get a weird rushing and pounding sound in them which I hate!)

Another thing is so many posters like me in my first 2 weeks of vaping (the honeymoon period) say they will never smoke again and are truly convinced of it but then begin smoking again, perhpaps at a decreased ammount.

Also lots of posters say 'I am analogue free since I started smoking and have never looked back!' without saying how long they have been vaping. Then you look at their ecf join date and it's less than a month ago!

So those types of posts really do not hold much water for true tests of how good a tool vaping is for helping completely quit cigarettes.

True, but there are plenty of examples of people who have been analogue free for quite a while now, perhaps they just don't visit this thread anymore ?

I started vaping in February '08, quit analogues somewhere in April of the same year (because I'm not sure of the date, I usually stick with the first of May, just to be on the safe side ;-) ), and have indeed 'never looked back'. Analgues simply don't interest me at all anymore because I find the vaping experience far more enjoyable than smoking. I guess I'm lucky with that because it doesn't seem to work the same way for everyone, as you unfortunately seem to be experiencing (sorry to hear that :( !).

Maybe give it some time, try a different device, or maybe experiment a bit more with different flavours ? Ofcourse you may have already tried all these things and more and if so, I apologise for suggesting them  !

I didn't quit analogues immediately either, although I did cut down from 15/20 a day to 2 from the start. I took me a while to quit those last two (first one after getting up and after dinner), but I think that was more of a psychological thing than anything else and when I did quit them, it happened without me even noticing it (which is why I don't know the exact date, 'accidental quitter' as they call it :)).

Not sure if it has any bearing, but I do know that the hand-to-mouth action was the major part of my addiction and that is satisfied completely with vaping.

Cheers,
Silver

I've smoked for nearly 30 years, and in that time I've tried pills, patches, hypnosis, nicotine gum, cold turkey, and probably a half dozen other things I've blocked out. None of them worked. The best I managed was 6 months. I started vaping and within two days I didn't want a regular cigarette anymore. I lit one after about a week of vaping, because all my batteries were dead and the thought of waiting, then the hassle of filling cartridges to get six puffs before I filled again.... Well, I wasn't up for it. I lit a regular cigarette and took three drags, it tasted disgusting, I put it out and haven't had one since. Don't want them, and am trying to figure out what to do with the three cartons I have sitting on the counter at home.

And now that I have a good PV and a MAP tank, I don't have the hassle of cartridges anymore, either. LOL.

I was so sick of smoking cigarettes for at least the past few years. Couldnt fathom quitting smoking. 3 weeks ago on a whim I bought an e-cig at the mall. Finished what cigarettes I had in my possession (a little over a pack), and that was hard to do. Once I started vaping, the cigarettes tasted totally GROSS and disgusting. I have not touched a cigarette since Jan 10th and I couldnt be happier! I have absolutely NO DESIRE for an analog, and this is just a miracle to me. I feel great and I feel great about it. I'll try to come back in a few months and restate that I have been analog free since it seems that newbie comments just dont carry much weight. I think it's a mistake to discount newbie input tho. I KNOW that I will never go back to cigarettes.

Feel the same way. Mrs dopeh and I both quit the day our kite arrived 18 days ago. It was effortless. Once in a while I'll reach for a pack that doesn't exist, but that's a habit not a craving. Grab a PV instead and completely satisfied. 1 pack a day for 23 years, and we KNOW we'll never smoke again.

Honestly, good for you.

ALL I know is I ALSO KNEW I would never smoke again in my first few weeks of vaping but now I am and so is one of my mates.

You may well be right though, I'm not saying you will smoke ever again., don't get me wrong, just being logical by saying if we did a statistical analasys of how good a tool vaping is for quitting and asked newbs, I don't think it would be a viable study.

Really near the mexican border.
I quit smoking tobacco cigarettes about 3/4 - 1 pack a day (depending on the day) on March 20th, 2010...I had a few analogs along the way until June 10th, 2010 that was the last one I had. I have smoked since October 1980. That is when I started not saying I smoked that much way back then, but I really don't remember.
So I have smoked many cigarettes................many, many, many cigarettes........I had lungs to prove it. At this moment I am suffering from Bronchitis, but I haven't had a bout of this since March 2010. I normally have about 3 bout's of bronchitis per year, or at least I used to. I breath easier, I don't use my asthma meds as much as I used to. My skin is better and actually I believe I can think better as not so much C02 is going into my system. NICE!

I smoked two and a half packs of Kools a day plus cigars.
I was talking to a friend on Skype and he was using a 5v wetbox but I thought he was doing something else!
Anyway he hipped me to vaping and I said "get out of here you haven't smoked in six months?"
I could hardly believe it! Long story short, he helped me order an eGo kit from cignot had it two days later and quit smoking my beloved Kools in two days. I quit on 11/03/2010 and I haven't looked back. I carried around a three quarters used pack for a month and finally gave the stale things away and started collecting mods. lol! I sometimes reach for a cig,out of habit but I haven't relapsed yet and don't intend to. who wants to stink like we used to from cigs?
Not I!
