Mornin All...
I so love hearing about new adventures!! I love the mountains and how you went through a rain cloud brings back memories of my time going through one. Finally wrote about the beach trip here lol. Still haven't worked on pictures and I've got another couple busy days ahead. Still catching up on sleep.
First the mountains were cool as heck at night, at one point one mountain directly next to the road was glittery looking because there were tons of fireflies lighting up bottom to top. And on the way back at the peak of one mountain I got to drive through a raincloud, completely neat experience.
We ate at a seafood buffet the first day, absolutely delicious (did not expect a buffet to be very good) and got to try a lot of new seafood. Could barely walk when leaving lol. The rest of the time we made easy meals at the hotel and ordered pizza one night.
The ocean of course was fantastic, even with tons of people around you you can barely hear them over the waves anyway. Watching the differences in the tide was pretty neat, we used boogy boards 2 hours before a storm and the waves were awesome. The kids loved riding the boards all the way to the beach. Like I knew all this stuff happened and that mountains were big blah blah blah, its just not the same as seeing it all in person.
Did get a second degree burn on my foot from the sand the one afternoon which sucked. It got really really hot morning through afternoon. First day I got a major sunburn despite the sunscreen so I was out of commission during the day for a few days. The hotel pool was shaded after 2pm so that was nice. The beach in the evening was more fun and less crowded. We were one block back from the beach which was kinda nice, a little quieter with less traffic.
Myrtle beach proper is very much family fun, but in the night is party central. There's a noise ordinance after 10 but people are everywhere driving and walking and drinking and yelling. After putting the kids to bed we sat outside and drank with most of the people in our motel, met LOTS of really interesting people hahaha.
We went to Ripley's odditorium, very cool stuff there. Did some souvenir shopping at Broadway on the beach. Didn't do a huge amount other than swimming and stuff, next time will spend a bit more to do some other activities. There were helicopter rides over the beach for $20pp, would be awesome at night. There were dinner and a show things we just couldn't afford to do this time (didn't have much time to save it was a last minute decision). We will definitely go back next year, probably make it a yearly trip. The place we stayed had smaller rooms for $45 a night, and it was outdated but we didn't spend much time there anyway except to swim in the (wonderfully warm) pool and sleep.
And yes the sand gets EVERYWHERE and sticks to everything haha. I can't imagine why people would ya know on a beach. Ouch
The best part about it being motel style was meeting all our neighbors. In a large fancy hotel you're either in your room with the door closed or at the beach etc, and we've never been able to hang out with new people like that before. That was honestly one of my favorite parts of the whole trip, I love hearing stories etc from people from all walks of life.I so love hearing about new adventures!! Now you know what to expect, next time you will be better prepared for that damn brutally hot sand!
I don't mind older hotels. Hubby does. I think people are nicer in the older ones, easier to talk to. And like you said, it's basically only for sleeping anyway.
I'm not a beach person because of the sand getting into every crack and crevice. Some you don't even realize you have!![]()
Now I'm looking even more forward to our week! Since we are on the beach, I can stay at the pool and watch those that are on the beachBest of both worlds!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!!
We took 77s most of the way to 17e on the way down, the way back was 74w through NC (we stopped at battleship NC on the way back) to 77n. The way back took way longer. Sorry I missed your questionSounds like a good time Always. You never did tell me what road you took through the mountains.
Oh, so then you went through the West Virginia mountains. Beautiful ride from Charleston, WV to the NC/VA borderline. I like that gold capitol dome in Charleston. I know PopPop has taken that stretch more times than he can count. If you get the time, try the Blue Ridge Parkway through North Carolina as a side trip. A little out of the way to Myrtle Beach but if you can add a day or two it is worth it. Best way to see the most beautiful parts of the Appalachians. We took 77s most of the way to 17e on the way down, the way back was 74w through NC (we stopped at battleship NC on the way back) to 77n. And consider touring the Biltmore Estate in Asheville too. It will blow you away. I loathe house tours but the Biltmore smoked me. Would be hard with kids though.I feel for the truckers going through there, its a heck of a drive. I only got to see wv in the dark both times, but it was still really neat. I will definitely note that for next time, thank youalways good to know the scenic routes
I'm going there the first weekend in October. I love that place....off season. The weather can be dicey, but great when you get lucky. Finally wrote about the beach trip here lol. Still haven't worked on pictures and I've got another couple busy days ahead. Still catching up on sleep.

I got tired just reading that!Mental image of Chak furiously peddling while a mixer is spinning in a bowl of dough....Priceless!
Mornin' Army! Rise and shine
Make it a fabulous day!!
What the hell kinda backwards azz engineer designs a car that has to have the engine yanked just to change the plugs !? Dam , I hate the way things are going these days ! Too much crap attached to everything .Hi all! Still on the right side if the sod. Need new spark plugs and a few ignition coils in my Lincoln. Since the engine has to come out of the car to change the plugs it's $1200 for just changing the plugs. Also need new tires, so all together almost $3000 worth of stuff that needs done.
Well it's going to take a while to save...
Just working hard and hoping it all works out!
Hope everyone is good!!
